  • For our 1st year anniversary (August 12th), we had to climb something epic! Mount Shuksan caught my attention with its striking beauty and thousands of vertical feet of technical climbing. We took a leisurely 3 days to climb and descend the route, which had thousands of feet of class 3 and class 4 scrambling, steep snow up to 60-70 degrees, glacier navigation, white out conditions, and epic views. All around this climb had a wide variety of challenge and required a lot of different skills. It was super fun and engaging throughout, and certainly no walk in the park!
    In this video, I capture the journey, the challenge and the beauty, from start to finish. Enjoy!

    I just summited Mt Baker last week and saw Shuksan the whole time. The guides talked about the Fisher Chimneys route and your video got me really excited to give it a shot. Happy anniversary too! Great content and if you even sell the Montage stickers. I'd buy one!

    Great video. How long is the rappel off of the summit? Also, is there more than one permanent rappel station?

    • @MountainMontage
      @MountainMontage  Před 2 dny +1

      @@jaredempey5706thanks! We ended up doing 4 separate rappels with a 60m rope. For the most part there were numerous rap stations, we also did some down climbing on some of the easier scrambling sections. Overall the summit block is around 800 ft.

    Awesome climb! Love the music choices on this one as well! One quick question - what pack did you use on your approach? I’m looking for a new backpacking pack that can also handle some mild mountaineering adventures

      Thanks! I have a 70L Osprey pack. Its big but I love it for trips like this.

    How are the LS Aequilibriums? Have you used the Trango Techs? If so how are they in comparison? I really liked the techs, but they had very poor durability.

      @MountainMontage  Před 2 lety +1

      This was the first climb i had with them, and I have to say, I freaking loved them. 10/10. great on the snow, but also felt almost as good as a rock shoe for climbing. I cant speak to the long term durability as I have just purchased them, but so far they looked after 3 full days of heavy use.

      I’ve had the Aequilibriums for 1 season and love them this far. They are holding up well, no signs of wear yet. I have a full review/comparison to the Trango Techs on my channel if you’re interested in learning more

      Thanks! I wore La Sportiva Aequilbriums. This was my first climb trying them out and I loved them! They preformed very well on the rock, as good as approach shoes, but also worked great in the snow and were nice for strapping crampons onto. In general this route isn't in till mid to late summer. As a spring climb it will be much for ice and snow and less rock scrambling.
