      Remember this... that feeling you have when you're seated at your desk when others are presenting, that anxious butterfly feeling, more than likely everyone else feels the same way. They may do well and you may think they're not nervous, but I can almost guarantee you that they have a similar experience as you. Instead of thinking about what everyone thinks about you, think about the great things you have to share with them, and the great informative message you have for them. Your speech is a gift. Something that will help them. And one more thing.. We get nervous with ANYTHING that we actually CARE about. The fact that you care means you WANT to do well. Blessings my friend and good luck.

    To memorize more than five points, you can use a similar technique called the mind palace. You associate different items in the palace with the bullet points, like what Mike did with his fingers.
    And, usually, a mind palace is just a place you know well. For example, your front door could be made of pumpkin seeds - not very stable, so as you walk up to it, it collapses into a large pile. The next place you walk to could be the entryway, and the floor there would be made of dirt and covered with soft young sprouts.
    Those were to just use his examples. You can do whatever you need, and you can "be" wherever you need to maximize the needed amount of bulletpoints. However, it's still good to practice a few times before the actual presentation so you don't stumble and go "Wait, what did the sprouts stand for again?"

      @jamminoutrexan5474 Před 9 lety +1

      ***** Hey, thanks for the reply! I l read your article that you linked to, and it's a good one. Like other people have said, the title referring to photographic memory may be a bit misleading ("The term is actually used for a memory able to create a clear picture of what you see. For example, if you see a house, you can remember each and every part - the shape of the house, its height, the position of the window and the door, its colour and everything."), and I didn't see anything about memory palaces.
      Whether the article's about photographic memory or not, you did present a way to memorize well.
      A blog I came across that I find helpful - all about memory and memorization - is howtoremember.biz . Bill Powell, the author, starts off using imagery mnemonics for anything he can think of, and the blog ends up going toward more non-distracting mental techniques (so you're not remembering a favorite quote from a book and having unrelated images of cars twisting into butterflies and whatnot go through your head), simpler things like getting yourself interested and making connections with what you already know.
      I think I'll be using a combination of both: trying to memorize quotes by interest and repetition, but storing what I learn a mind palace so I can retrieve what I like whenever I like. Right now, I use my mind palace most often for songs I've memorized. Twenty songs and counting, retrievable at any time! (Nothing compared to an iPod, but still fun, and I'll hopefully keep adding as time goes by.) I put the song titles or key phrases into imaginary pop-up books. The pages are ridiculous images, but I used as few mnemonics as possible while memorizing the songs themselves. I venture there only if there's no helpful music video and I keep getting the order of lyrics mixed up.
      Similar techniques work well for memorizing school work, business information, movies, books of any sort, or whatever you like, too: store information in a mind palace for later retrieval. No matter what, reviewing, or renewing the information, is always good, but it's easy because it can be done anywhere; you don't need to be carrying around anything special or bulky!
      Enjoy that long reply? :) Again, thanks for replying to my original comment!
      *Edit:* Right, and another reason I use mnemonics is memorizing numbers. I've only recently made characters for 0 - 99 (as in about a week ago), but I've managed with only the Major System since learning imagery mnemonics for the first time a year and a half ago. Numbers are GREAT to have a technique for.

    you guys are all here for homework, but im here to memorize:
    My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

    I'm memorizing the scripts for a video course I created, and I would like to present the script almost word for word how I wrote it. I think this technique is helpful for my purposes as a first step because it allows you to create an overall picture of the points that you're trying to make. Once you have that, it's easier to remember the specific words that you want to use.

    Mike: Memorizing speeches is a huge source of anxiety for me. I'm set to take an exam in two months, and they want me to listen to a speech once and repeat it in summary form. Do you know where I could find some "practice" speeches about 3-minutes in length. And does it really get better with practice?

    • @dwayneparker9844
      @dwayneparker9844 Před 9 lety +3

      ***** I'm familiar with the technique, but you give a fresh spin on it. Sometimes, the problem is simply coming up with the images, but you took care of that with gun, shoe, tree, floor, beehive. I'll never forget that. But sadly, I just tried it with a news report and I was so busy trying to put things into different compartments that I missed the info in the story. Am I doing something wrong. And where can I find 3-minute long speeches? Any recommendations on that? Again great job.
