Forging a Straight Razor

- I forged a straight razor from 1084 high carbon steel and put the claim "shaving sharp" to the test. Just a little update so you all know I'm not dead. There's more to come soon-ish. Stay safe out there!

Ive said it once, Ill say it again, channel is underrated
Damn right jazz
@@checopasha8772 lmao another Jazz with fantastic taste
I love how down to earth and honest you are.. no bullshit.. just as mentioned in the comments, extremely underrated channel. I'm glad you guys found a house and i hope it gets well soon!
Thanks, that means a lot :)
What a beautiful razor. You can't buy quality and function anymore. Well done!
Thanks! I’d love to do another one, I think getting the hollow grind just a smidge thinner would really improve the quality of the shave. Though I’ve been told my technique was also very bad for the actual shaving!
You're back!!!
Yep! I've got one or two other things in the pipe, including the prettiest damn knives I've made yet. I won't be back to weekly uploads, just yet, but I'm working on it!
glad you're back
So underrated😭
Do i understand most of what's happening? No! Am i having a good time? Yes absolutely
That razor came out great, man. I'm sorry to hear you've been having it rough lately.
I appreciate it. The pandemic stress may have been the push I needed to get my meds adjusted for the first time in ... 15 years? I feel more myself than I have in ages. Talk to your doctor, folks! XD
Very true. It's important. I like that you're finding the silver lining. It's always there if you look.
I prefer full beard but I would give a shot to that razor; which looks pretty good
Nicely done.
Great to see you again. Awesome video, as always. Hope things get better for you and yours soon.
Thanks! Things are ok, just you know, exhausting.
@@BennettTheSmith oh I get it. I think that i will finally get back into my shop next weekend, at least on a consistent basis. Keep your head up. Great things are coming out of your shop.
A very entertaining video bro! Hope you're settling in alright
Great work. I respect the willingness to do it yourself. Take care
Nice razor, keep the faith and keep up the good work. 👏
Nice work.... Good to see Youre still hangin in there..
Great video man..
Fine work man. I hope the future will be better for you and for all of us
Nice piece, like yer cut G.
Thank you as always for the videos, hope you got settled in again and will try to support if things get better here. Appreciate your hard work in getting these videos out to us to enjoy. Stay safe and healthy
We’re settling in ok, I even got my bed put together after only three weeks! I’m hoping to get more out soon, but time will tell.
Great job with the razor, glad to see you back.
Thanks, it's good to be back.
Moving is the worst.
Moving during a pandemic is worster.
Moving during a pandemic with only five days to do it is AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHGFJDKFJSLSAJ!!!
YEUP. My younger brother saved my bacon, helped out with 90% of the heavy stuff. I wanted this year to be the year of hiring movers, but not after what 2020 did to the olde bank account.
The way you shave, how have you managed not to hack up your face ? I am glad you are a better blacksmith than a shaver.
That was first time using a straight razor, as well as first time making one. Just lucky I guess!
@@BennettTheSmith You are really lucky for a first timer, not cutting up your face. I hope you are better at it now. If not, remember to hold your razor 45-degree angle and go very lightly, let the weight of the razor do the cutting.
How would someone get into forging/ metal working?
Like all good answers, it depends. Do you have space you can do it? Do you have money? Do you have any friends that do it? Etc etc
Three routes: diy home shop, take classes, and find a friend/group. You’ll probably
Mix and match some of each.
For diy, search CZcams for “getting started blacksmithing” or “blacksmith for under $100” I’ve seen a bunch of videos out there like that. If you’ve got money to burn, get out there and buy yourself an anvil and forge and get to it! Books and CZcams videos will teach you a lot.
Another way of you have no space or money, become friends with someone who does! Offer to help them out, sort of an informal apprenticeship, you know? Help them with their projects in return for learning from them.
And classes! If you can find a smithing/metalworking class and can afford it, that’s incredibly helpful.
Not sharp whatsoever but very beautiful design. Thx 4 sharing
