    They say no because the patterns are based on the full amount of lights. When you reduce that, it lessens the effect and they don't want that. It's not that they WON'T work, it's that they don't want you to do it so you get the best experience.

      I want to use a 16' strip on an arcade cabinet with a riser. The cabinet will use about 12' and I'd like to cut it and use a jumper to join that with the 4' installed on the riser. So that I can move them separately when I need to. It would still be the same number of lights in total, just cut and extended. I would think that if it's all about the number of lights connected, this should work then. What do you think?

    Why would they be cuttable at a random spot..that's never the case. It is interesting that they work at the cut marks..since they say they are NOT cuttable. I want to use these but only need about 6 feet and I want IC so now I am thinking maybe I can cut them...hrm... but are they still full controllable? BTW use scissors..way easier.
    It seems the way to do this if you have to cut them is set each "zone" to a different color, then find where you need to cut and in the app set those zones to be turned off. Only thing is all the preset zones will be messed up. But if you just want solid colors and not motion stuff cutting would be a great option so glad you made this video. I don't plan to do moving for this application just 3 or 4 color gradient under a shelf..so this means I can actually cut (alternatively I can just turn those sections off and hide those parts of the strip somewhere even though that's kind of tedious.
    They should change the app to let you tell it if you have cut off some lights so that features keep working.

  • @zUltra3D
    @zUltra3D Před 2 lety +9

    They're talking about animations that reach the end segments. The controller has a set amount of LEDs (on WS2811, which Govee uses, they're called segments) which you cannot redefine so if you cut off or add 1 segment, the controller will control the strip in the exact same way regardless of how many segments are added/removed. You can cut Govee strips, just make sure you reconnect the same amount of segments back to the rest of the strip using wires and make sure those wires can handle 12V 3A or whatever the max power of the power supply is (mine's 36W). Please do not loop the strip over like it says in the manual. That will create uneven bright spots that look horrible.

    • @maddinlicious
      @maddinlicious Před rokem

      I have a DIY project with some problems.
      My plan is to stick a 5m strip around a wooden slat (circumferential length = 2.70m, can still be shortened), which then I want to attach to the wall and screw some stuff onto it so it's backlit. I want to use the RGBIC technology cause of the effects. The problems I have are descriped in the following ideas on how to get to my goal.
      Idea 1: I wrap it around the slat almost twice beginning with the end of the strip and stick the second round over the first like that 2,3m are covered because it´s stated that you shouldn´t cut it off according to the manufacturer. Also covering it with insulating tape or something similar, but then you have about 2.30m of the end piece which still get enlighten and with it a supposed delay in some effects generated. Would be cool if you could then hide the last segments via the app, so that the technical end is after 2.70m (according to the segments, that would even be perfect after the 9th, because 9 * 0.3m = 2.7m) and then jumps immediately to the beginning after the 9th segment. Is this possible or does the controller still control the diodes that are not switched on via app and does not skip them, i.e. you can clearly see a delay?
      Idea 2: I've read here that the tape can be cut at the copper connections and even better if you do it at every 0.3m cause of the segmented lights. I'm only tied to the 2.7m dimension, I could only shorten it a bit. Can someone tell me whether the copper connections are to be cut at about 2.7 m on the tape? I guess I can play with around 10cm. And is that perhaps also after the 9th segment? Then you could control at least nine segments perfectly or are there problems with the effects? Like a delay descriped in "Idea 1".
      All in all it would be cool if the effects start at the beginning of segment one, run until the end of nine and start again at segment one. If it´s not possible, maybe you guys have some other ideas for me.
      Thanks.

      @@maddinlicious have you seen the new Govee M1 strips? It apparently has a controller that can detect if a strip has been cut and adjust the effects accordingly. It's a bit more expensive though, mostly because it is 60LED/m instead of 30.

    When the power is OFF, Yes cut and join RGBIC extension by soldering cable is possible. Without power OFF cutting, soldering or testing will damage the last IC (6 LEd) will fail + next series connection is not possible. To fix them have to cut the failed Led series and solider working Led series. I have tested them on a 10meter strip and wasted 3meter when not powrer Off during soldering.

    ALERT: If you have any Model RGBIC or RGBICW from Govee and the controler works with 24V divide in 2 parts for each led strip / each side, lef and right (example 2x 15mts), happens two things: the effects dont works flow has well and you lost to many time to loop the effect. Other thing is : the short strip led shortens the life span for only 30% of the manufacturer displays in waranty and the colours be more bright than the other strip because the amperage is more greater or the short length. The other (complet length) strip works normaly but a quite more bright than if you have the two parts original parts length, and durability it also more shorter.

      Hey. I finally cracked it. Yes it works! The great thing is you don't have to use the original sequence so if you mess up and destroy a section, you can just splice in a section from anywhere on the original strip. I used the spiked connectors and some LED connector wire from Amazon.
      I didn't need the last 2m of the strip so the looping animations pause slightly before starting again. Not really an issue if you ask me. All the animations look great and having a different colour on each shelf is a flex.
