- Yeah, baby! Mr. Painkiller Scott Travis himself in my living room? Yeah, baby!
You don't have to be into metal music to admit that this intro is and will forever be epic.
But that was just the beginning of our conversation - Scott is not only a massive groove train, but a cool guy: funny, articulate, patient, knows more about drumming and musicians than most of us without letting on. Blast beats or not - I had a blast that day! - Hudba
This guy single handedly put Judas Priest back on the map. Totally overlooked drummer.
I don’t play drums but Scott is one of the drummers where you always notice the playing and it stands out.
Scott Travis is one of the Best Metal Drummer of all time
Painkiller intro is ultimate 🔥
Painkiller drumming is insane. Love this great drummer.
Killer drummer and great guy. Excellent interview.
私が世界1好きなドラマー。ジューダスのライブ見に行った時、覇気がハンパなかった。一生忘れない。スコットお体に気をつけて、
世界1の覇気を見せつけてください!
Imagine getting a gig with Priest, then debuting with the Painkiller album. He became a legend on his first recording. 30 years later, he's popping out Firepower and has cemented himself as one of the best to ever do it.
Notice how much he gets it from a fans point of view? We don't come to concerts to hear an improv. We come to hear what we love. He, as a fan first, gets it.
Speaking of Metal Meltdown. Bring it and Nostradamus back! Need that Scott double bass.
much respect, for one of the best drummers to be so humble
I love that he and Ian Hill are doing interviews now. Both of them have so much to say and contribute to the Priest story.
Can't believe how humble he is!
Looks are deceiving. No doubt he’s a tough and tough looking individual. However, he’s a very nice guy.
So great!"#thanks
Scott is criminally underrated. Outside of Priest his drumming on Racer X albums is insane.
I don't think he's underated at all
He's well considered as one of best drummers in the world now
@@hanifarjo5222 He’s rarely mentioned in any “best drummers” lists, mostly because he doesn’t do much work outside of Priest and because he usually plays to fit the song. He may seem like he lacks the ability to play flashy fills but it is simply not true.
@@UnrealFacepalmer i have the same impression. i've heard about him only 2-3 years ago. give how big priest is and how good a drummer he is, you barely hear about him in the mainstream media.
@@UnrealFacepalmer Alex VH is in the same group. Literally the best at what they do, but never make the list.
Scott is outstanding drummer and personality - a huge inspiration to alot of drummers like myself. Thank you for having him
Great drummer. He hits things on time.
I've seen more personality in dead fish, myself.
I am 46 years old, I remember when I heard "painkiller" for the first time, although the double bass (or kick) drum was already heard, this was devastating, it was like a lesson, Scott saying, hey guys, that's how you do this, and Scott makes it look so easy.
To this day, I still say that the album "painkiller" was and is a masterpiece.
100%
I remember staying up to see it on the ball. It was my 3rd year playing drums. My mind was blown.
.. and will remain Masterpiece! 👍👌🤘
That was Dave Holland
@@kalcounts nope. That was Scott's 1st album with priest
Awesome drummer. First heard him with Racer X and later with Priest. Handed my son a drumstick after a Priest show back in 2011. Very cool guy!
Scott put a drumstick ín my hand in Budapest last year.I was very happy,an eternal memory for an old Priest fan!
I met Scott about thirty years ago. Really a nice guy. He and I have a lot of common friends in the Virginia area. I met him through a common friend between us. Back then my kids had a rock band, really garage band. My son was the drummer and I got him one of Scott's VHS tapes on drumming. I think I paid a couple bucks for it, but now, if you can find one, they sell for over $500. He came over a couple times and helped him clean up his drumming.
Anyway, he is really a nice guy. I am glad that the managerial problems of Judas priest were resolved, but once they were, Judas Priest really took off and Scott has been busy ever since.
Drummer World once said that Scott Travis is the Drummer's Drummer.
Great, great talent.
Great interview with a very good, but underrated artist
Got to meet him once in Akron Ohio at a Priest show. Real nice guy, cool dude. His drumming will kick your ass in the live setting.
the drumms wo make Scott on painkiller is amazing
Awesome interview.
Great drummer.
Awesome, love Scott´s Drumming, Klasse! Grüße!
The Painkiller intro is fantastic, but the solo at the end too!!
A living legend...what else to say
tall drummer/low seat.scott travis,a classic
Loved his playing since the Racer X days!
Great personality🏆❤️🥁
Pain killer album ... masterful drumming... fantastic!
Believe it or don't. As a young fella Scott used to hangout near my house in Virginia Beach with his buddies that had a kiss cover band. Those dudes all lived in this huge old house that used to be a drug rehab center. the drummer of the cover band owned it..they used to play outside all the time and I used to go there at least twice a month until it got sold. Scott's drums used to be in the waiting room that they used as the jam room. My friend that lived there pulled the sheets back on his kit and let me see metal history first hand. Unfortunately I dont know where the tapes are these days but I definately watched hi8 tape of Scott playing his kit in the Hampton Coliseum parking lot. Had to be the 90's. GOOD TIMES!! HAILS
Used to work with his cousin which led to jamming with him twice in a garage in Ocean View. ..around the time he played with Teaser. Im a guitar player but I’d go see Teaser for his drumming😂 It’s no surprise he is where he is.
I don" ever recall after so many years now not watching Scott in an interview like I am watching right now. Very cool guy and wish he was my neighbor. Seems like a common sense guy to me.
wow it's great that he has all his hair!
Scott Travis one of the best drummer in the world with also Mikky Dee. Scott Is humble and simple person. I apreciate his attitude. The Priest rules. Hell Yeah !!!
Scott is the man he so fun to watch him playing he makes it look easy
To me, when it comes to heavy rock or hard rock or heavy metal, call it what you want, it,s Tommy Aldridge, and Scott Travis, no discussion here. Love how these guys drive a song, and their use of the double bass drums, very well done and very tasteful, and the way they use single kick and the rest of the kit is amazing too. And both are playing or played in amazing bands too. Again, this is me, just my personal taste.
Scott is one of the best ever.
How many times did Scott say “thank you”? How refreshing from a professional world class musician. Total class and manners.
Fantastic, what a great interview.
Scott Travis is an amazing drummer and one of my all time favorite Judas Priest songs is Painkiller. His intro to that song is legendary!
Amazing drummer!!! His drumming took Priest to another level!! The interviewer is right-he’s a machine!!! Seems like a cool, humble guy….
His set up is very unique, and very cool guy!
Metal God
Down to earth guy, saw him in a drum clinic in Orlando ca. 1995 ... not a clue he was part of JP,.. but such a talented dude who made a pretty big impression on me after a drum solo for (I think) Drum Magazine organized event at the time ... I drove there to the event from Daytona with my good buddy and bassist of our band at the time and we had a blast ... Good Times !!!
He can hi-hat typical right hand, within left hand equilvency. Very balanced, also very consistent drummer. Very valuable to any unit, being extraordinary versitile. That's very physically demanding, 120-consecutive minutes. Back to back arena shows, extraordinary endurance to fulfill.
Finally getting to hear from Scott Travis! Priest is a pretty mum group, and when together, Scott usually is quiet. What a treat.
Very cool. Was a Racer X fan.
You asked great questions
Scott gave great answers.
Perfect.
Thanks!
One of my all time favorites!
Great guy, with a great approach. And a superb drummer.
Scott is a class act
As a guitarist this one drummer I complete tune into when listening… it would be a joy to have him behind you… he fills, accompanies and hits everything just right… love his playing. ❤
I'm fortunate enough to play with Scott in a band with friends.....it's like playing to the record...the songs play themselves.
I remember hearing him on the live Racer X record from the late 80’s. The drum solo that is on that record is insane. Especially when he starts with the broken 16th note triplet patterns at warp speed on the kick drums. A truly amazing player!
Agreed. That live drum solo is the one of the best ever recorded, IMO!
Badass album brother I love it.
Yes! I was in the 9th grade and was listening to King Diamond Riot Thundersteel and Racer X. He definitely leveled Priest up when he arrived.
Never knew he was with RacerX.
A REAL DRUMMER 😁🤘
Rock and Roll will never die 🥁
Thanks Scott to your contribution🤘
Cool guy. One of my favorite drummers
Great videos I knew Scott and his brother Ben really good people was happy as hell when Ben told me Scott got the gig with priest rock on Scott!
#2(Painkiller-JP,Scott Travis)under #1Hot for teacher/Alex VH is accurate!Yeah,Scott listened to his playing on that JP album and thought;"Damn!I AM a badass!!
That is a really good point…who will be left to carry the torch? I don’t think there will be anyone that can or could. Especially not this type of music from this time period. It cannot be duplicated.
Love Scott.
Bring back KK!
Great interview! What a fantastic guy. Absolutely humble for such an amazing talent .
Great to see this guy he has been an influence on me since Racer X
SCOTT TRAVIS BEST DRUMMER ALIVE!! SCOTT IF YOU READ THIS PLEASE BRING BACK YOUR CZcams CHANNEL OR AT LEAST YOUR HEAD CAM LOVE WATCHING YOU JAM MY FAVORITE SONG TO WATCH YOU PLAY IS BEYOND THE REALMS OF DEATH IT'S HARD TO LEARN YOU KILL IT...
Very cool and down to earth. Excellent way for us to get to know Scott a little more!
I didn't know he is from Virginia. Very cool interview. Some insightful stuff.
Legend, pure and simple.
Great interview buddy and what a fascinating story! You continue to be such an inspiration! 👏🤘
He seems like a great guy.
wow What a grounded man he is, absolutely Zero bullshit
What a fantastic person and one of the eventual greatest heavy metal drummers of all time. Total class, incredible physical and mental abilities - thanks for posting this! Need to hear more from Scott...
Scott Travis is absolutely one of my favourite drummers and I feel so humbled to have seen him live before. Painkiller is my favourite album and nothing will ever come close to beating it, him and Neil Peart inspired me to pick up a pair of sticks and become a drummer as well 🤘🏻🤘🏻
25:54 - You took the words right out of my mouth! That sums Scott up! I saw him on the Painkiller tour with Megadeth and Testament at the Winnipeg Arena. From then till now, still blazing with "Firepower"! Holy Sh*t what a recod they made with that one! The boys still got it!
Great interview, Philipp …thanks a lot. 👍🏻 Hello Scott! We love you and the band over here in Texas brother. I can tell you’re a fan of Phil Rudd just like I am.
thanks mate!
Thank you for the great interview. He is one of my biggest Idols since I started drumming. Awesome guy 👍🏻
One of the most solid drummers in metal history! Superbadass!
Scott is Quote Unquote "KILLER"
really good drummer ..super solid
I like the energy and the look of Scott. He looks like a very humble guy. Many should learn from him.
I liked when he was in the early years of Judas and putting his own spin on classic tunes...he did a fill EXACTLY like I thought it should have been done instead of what is on the record
Scott is the man, I loved his playing in Fight and everything else!
I got to see Fight in Boston as The Avalon - they were awesome.
Yes I love that cd! Into the Pit is so catchy
best produced drum sound on that album
wow all i can say is this Scott Travis interview was totally awesome! Thank you
Great interview, he seems like a down to earth guy. He’s right about the Painkiller album, it still jams 33yrs later.
Such A Well Spoken Drum Brother! Great Interview! -CeeHimself #ScottTravis #JudasPriest
My admiration for Scott Travis dates back to my childhood. What a humble and pleasant person he is! Apart from being my hero and influence, now I admire him much more for being an excellent human being. And yes, I digested his Backstage Pass VHS!
Saw him on the Painkiller tour. Flawless.
the best drumm intro of metal is Painkiller
Great interview this man is a gentleman.
Yes. Respect.
So humble, and down to earth. His intro in Painkiller is a legend.
That was such a great interview!!!! So much to learn from Scott Travis, incredible drummer, incredible person. Love the episode 👏👏👏
painkiller!
Scott's the best. Innovative, consistent, a complete pro, and humble to fault. Plus, he's held this amazing gig through it all for 32 years! Salut Scott Travis!!
Great stuff! But to be fair to Dave Holland he was outstanding on the Ran It Down tour. Also Scott doesn't mention Fight..... they were excellent live. Got to see Scott's feet double kick action in action!

Scott is fantanstic, such a Inspiration

1982, Scott - that's the year that Screaming For Vengeance was released (July 1982 to be exact). I saw them on tour that year in Glens Falls, NY - I was 12 years old at the time.
Scott is a total badass. His touch is incredible. Listen to greats like Marco play Scarified and it just feels waaaaay different. Scott rules!
Another great episode man! Even my 4 and 8 year old sons are crazy about the intro of painkiller and recognise whenever I drum it on wahtever drum/furniture, books etc. Painkiller album is just such a blueprint for the perfect metal album. Thanks a lot. I enjoyed it!
Fantastic interview, Scott is one of my favorites 🤘🤘down to earth guy, that's awesome 👊👊🥁🥁🥁💥💥💪💪
Greatest drummer of my lifetime... Thanks for all you've done Scott!!!
Love the video, Scott Travis. Would like to see Sean Kinney on drumtalk
yeah, me too! grew up with AIC, had my room covered in posters from them...
@@drumtalkofficial Hell yeah, I’ve been in Alice in chains for the last few years, Sean Kinney is a big influence on my drumming
