Europe is the same way. It's because they're WALKING. To school, to eat out, to meet friends, to work, etc. Here in the USA, we drive, unless you're in NYC.
If there is one thing you can do to get yourself a stable well supported life: dress respectably not like the cheap tarts you see on TV . Is that what you want to be? A cheap tart? Once you are clad for the city you can learn to hold your brolly in one hand and your bag over the other shoulder. No junk food, no sweet soft drinks. And definitely absolutely no alcohol. Then when you get home you can cook up a decent meal and this way you may even start to feel like an adult human being
