It’s amazing how few words in Dutch relate to “Tamil” and “Hindi”. For example “Vandaan” in Tamil translates to “came”. Similarly “Naam” in Hindi translates to Name. ❤

In this sentence, it is used "jaar" (in the singular form) instead of "jaren" (in the plural form).
In what context/case can we use "jaren"?

Als je een getal of een kwatiteit voor woorden zoals jaar, euro of bijvoorbeeld keer zet, dan blijven die woorden hetzelfde: 1 jaar, 1 euro en 1 keer wordt dus 10 jaar, 10 euro en 20 keer, of bijvoorbeeld elk jaar, elke euro en elke keer. Maar als je het ongespecificeerd laat, dan zet je het wel in het meervoud. Dus “ik woon hier al jaren!!” (Hoeveel weten we niet!) of soms zeggen mensen “ik heb veel centen” om te zeggen dat zee veel geld hebben :)
Oh sorry I see I automatically replied in Dutch. It’s about putting a number or quantity in front of the word, then it remains in its singular form: “ik woon hier al 10 jaar” versus “ik woon hier al jaren!” As I said in my previous message: we have other words that behave this way such as for instance: euro, cent, keer :)

In Norwegian, the word for “me” is “jeg” and it’s pronounced the same as “jij” in Dutch, but “jij” means “you” and not “me”. So because of this I often say or write “jij” when I mean on say or write “ik”. My Norwegian brain finds Dutch hard, but I like a challenge!
