Rye is a coastal suburb of New York City in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is separate from the Town of Rye, which has more land area than the city.[3] The City of Rye, formerly the Village of Rye, was part of the Town until it received its charter as a city in 1942, making it the youngest city in the State of New York. Its population density for its 5.85 square miles of land is roughly 2,729.76/sq mi.
Rye is notable for its waterfront which covers 60 percent of the city's six square miles and is governed by a waterfront act instituted in 1991. Located in the city are two National Historic Landmarks: the Boston Post Road Historic District was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service in 1993; its centerpiece is the Jay Estate, the childhood home of John Jay, a Founding Father and the first Chief Justice of the United States.
Playland, a historic amusement park designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 is also located in Rye. Playland features one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the Northeast, the Dragon Coaster.
Growing up in Larchmont New York we moved to Rye in 1972. The house was originally my cousin's the moved to Pelham Bay and upon my grandmother losing the mortgage my father took it is why we moved. Upon my father's passing in 2019 at the age of 90 my parents were married 63 years. At 63 I've been a Chelsea Manhattan resident since 2004 and even though it's going on five years I still miss going home so much.
If anyone remembers the show Who's the Boss during the pilot episode scene in his van is turning the corner was actually Purchase Street. When you crossed Dearborn Avenue the house is on Rickbern Street.
A friend who is no longer with us Larry McGowan worked in the Rye Playland Paint Shop. Rye Playland is also an historical landmark built in 1928.
Thanks for the nice drive through Rye. I thought that Playland amusement park finally met its match with "superstorm" Sandy in 2012 and was closed forever, I see I was wrong.
Being a Rye resident although I live in Chelsea Manhattan during Sandy my street was under five feet of water and we were evacuated that day. Grand Central Terminal was a mess. So I took the #2 subway to 241st Street where my Mother and sister pictured me up.
So I could be with them during Sandy if they needed any help. While we didn't have electricity for 8 days we did have the stove and hot water. I have pictures of entire sections of boardwalk being sliced off and floating out into Long Island Sound. I believe because it was during that month that the amusement park is scaled down to the bare minimum and things are put into storage. Also on a side note it was built in 1928 and is a historical landmark.
I applied to FEMA and they put me up at the W for 3 months directly across the street from the 911 memorial. 350 thread Egyptian cotton sheets, complimentary newspapers every morning as well as the breakfast buffet. A DJ every weekend and they sent me a $2,500 check that I didn't know I was going to get. I had to stay for an additional month at Gild Hall. When it was time to go home I literally broke down at my front door and began crying.
Also during Sandy, DeSantis voted against funding for emergency help. He probably asked for a government handout when they have their never-ending as I've lost count hurricanes.

My Mother was born in Rye back in 1928. She went to High School in Harrison. the weather looks great there for November

When you turned onto Purchase Street that was the Square House on the left and the Arcade Building owned by Gretchen Pulverman who was friends of my parents as she would invite me over. She seved tea in fine china and she would tell me of her time during WWII. The building on the left on Peck Avenue is Avon Headquarters.
At the bottom of the hill when you were on Oakland Beach Avenue on the left was La Panettiere a French restaurant that recently closed after many years of fine dining. The Pizza and deli on the right was originally a Mobile gas station.
While you were on Stevenson Avenue turning left on the right is the Wainwright House and continuing straight on the is The Shenorock & Coverly and American Yacht Club on on Milton Point.
The brick wall on the right that you pass on Forest Avenue was originally Marble Hall a fat farm that went bankrupt. They built luxury homes in its place as Calvin Klein had a residence.
On Forest Avenue and crossed Dearborn Avenue the house that grew up in with my two sisters and parents who were married 63 years was on Rickbern Street frst dtreet on the left off of Dearborn Avenue.
