Agh!!!! Slow down and show what you actually did with wiring. I’m sure I can do it just as fast, but I cannot see what you did!
sorry any particular question you have? THis video I made at the same time I was building the actual bartop so it was more of a I should probably also capture that....
Yes, I agree. The most important part of this are which wires are going where and the wires are falling out of the camera view. From about 2:10-2:30 the device isn't on camera and I cannot see where you are hooking the wires...and I cannot understand..."black goes black" then what?
@@drewtalks Then You should change the title, "How To Wire Arcade Power Supply & Switch" to "I recorded me wiring up the power supply switch.". Especially since you wired it incorrectly.
Thank you! Glad you made this tutorial. Wish you take a picture of the wiring at the end.
is this the same for people in the eu with 220+ volts
Thank you so much! This was exactly what I needed to know!
Great tutorial it helped alot on wiring my arcade 1up thank you very much
this is useful stuff mate, thanks and thumbs up
Awesome. Needed this
Thank you, I have seen other but most skip over this step.
Does anyone know if this also works on those wireless power outlets that work with remote controls to turn them on or off? That way I can have it to turn on or off via the button like this method and by the remote too.
sure you can
OK, first, the "Clips" are called Female Disconnects. Second. just stating "skip one and attach here" you are making for a dangerous situation. Not all of these switches are the same. you never explain why you are jumping these terminals.
Probably to illuminate the switch, but not stating Hot and Common just "black and white: it is obvious you are not an electrician and could have been setting someone up for a fire hazard, or an instant trip of a breaker. Also, note that is the proper gauge is not used for the disconnects you could be over fusing a wire load if someone where to put all kinds of fans, a PC with an extream video card, etc that would draw more than 15 amps for 14Ga wire and if the disconnects are only 16ga you are at 10AMP max load and that would not trip a breaker but rather create a meltdown of the disconnects and become a fire hazard...
I bought a rocker switch and it came with wires pre-attached so most of my work is done. However, the ends of the wires have ring terminals attached to them and as someone who's never done this sort of thing before, I'm baffled about what I'm supposed to do with them. Any advice?
Could you do the same thing if you soldered the wires instead of using the plastic connectors? Also are you essentially connecting the L N and E (ground) wires from the surge protector to the same corresponding connections on the IEC switch?
If it's made for soldering, check the datasheet. And yes just matching the same with the same. Don't assume the colors are correct though.
Ya this video was a little too fast, but I was able to figure it out with your help. And I got it done. Thanks drew.
Glad to help!
You wired it incorrectly. the power side of the switch is the two pins that are closer together. The load side are the two that are farther apart. Reason why is simple. In the tiny switch there is not much room. The two load pins are pushed out to make room for the bulb (and resistor). The bulb gets attached to the pins in between. When the switch is turned on and the power flows, the bulb lights.
I came to this realise that after the light wouldn't turn off when the switch was flicked off.
Plenty of videos out there showing the incorrect way.
@@Liquiddna89blaa yup. But i don't totally blame them. Blame goes to the manufacturer when the assembly line puts the switch in backwards then gives very simplistic drawings and instructions.
what's the crimp size for that plug?
It would be nice to see
Drew I build and sell arcades for a living, and I have to go back and watch this video every damn time!
Wire in UK are yellow and green is earth, brown is Live and blue is neutral, how does that transpose to your colour wire wher you live? I need to make ones for my guitar pedalboard, I have everything ready except the clips
You still have to wire your power supply to the power strip too
Any way you could show what you are actually doing? Or a decent diagram or something?
cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0008/4262/9179/files/PowerYourArcade-3-2.pdf?12511266144795572059
thanks... but hate to say, more effort put into providing your affiliate links than the production of the video.. a clear view of the connections would really have been helpful
isnt this just the same as switching it on at the wall?
Did you put the fuse in?
mine was already in there
DrewTalks I will bet money some people wont check or even know about the fuse.💥
@Thumper J actually Ive bought 3 and not a single one came with a fuse
How do you connect your power supply now?
amzn.to/2rstqel one of those
@@drewtalks That's a power cord. All you did in the video was jury rig a power switch to an outlet strip. The question is how do you connect the arcade power supply?
@@timmiser plug it into the power bar?
@@timmiser 😄😃 well thats simpel you connect u mount that swich thingy on the back of the arcade machine u have to make a hole in the wood
then u connect all the arcade machine stuff on one end the end of the white power strip and the black cord goes to the outside where the red light is u then connect the black cord to the wall plug and as for the arcade power supply connect it to the white extention cord inside the arcade machine
Drew you were struggling to cut that wire!
hah!
Those power outlets seem to fail quite offten according to Amazon reviews
thanks for the video, to fast, and couldnt see much
Thank you, perfectly executed and demonstrated!
Game rooms solution did the same vid a year ago👀 like for like🙈
That's for the info. I found the Game Room Solutions video. I could clearly see which wire went where.
You wired this backwards. You should always test continuity and voltage with a meter when wiring a product in order to prevent a fire.
What do you mean?
You didn't really show what you did onscreen. You plugged things in off screen. By the end, things are too busy for me to figure out. Pausing doesn't help when you're not showing me what you're doing.
yeah sorry bud this was a series of videos I did and this part did not come out as well. I have like 5 videos through the whole bartop build./
Maybe next time actually film it instead of the desk
Thanks for the tip
Outstanding video of a power supply while you did all the work off camera.... videography skills ok but you need to show what you were doing not just tell and slow down man
i cant see anythink
Can't see what he's doing. 90% of video is staring at table with power strip on it.
try pointing the camera at something useful
Well, this could have been a great tutorial but you are flinging parts around not showing the finished product for more than a half second. Slow down.
Sorry about that
Ummmmm what??? I couldn't see any of that. Totally useless video......
Yup. But don't worry if you think you missed anything, he wired it incorrectly anyhow. LOL
@@AztecWarrior69 what is wired incorrectly? How should it be? Is this correct: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0008/4262/9179/files/PowerYourArcade-3-2.pdf?12511266144795572059
I am sorry to say that I do not like this video. It is well made, you are well spoken, but I was entirely unable to follow what you were saying. I could not even see the wires. Please take this constructively.
CANT EVEN SEE NOTHING!!!
You genuinely not even showing what you're doing.
Yeah this is an older video, here is a more descriptive one: czcams.com/video/nyElXOnObBo/video.html fast forward a bit
@@drewtalks I used the game room solutions video
This is easily the worst video on this subject. Nice camera work...
Poor video. Your work with the wires was in the far right corner, really hard to see and you never provided a closeup of the back of the inlet switch. What the fudge? Lmao F-
