    50mm f2.5 G, because of size, weight, sharpness, autofocus speed. It's my main lens for street photography, besides the 85mm f1.8

      Also, I’ve had the 85GM for a few years now and you’re right, whilst it’s sharp and photos have a gorgeous look, it isn’t great for focus….its a bit slow. I find that if you’re using it in an environment where there’s time to frame/compose/adjust light, the results are amazing. It’s just not an easy lens to use in a fast paced environment such as a wedding.

      And that’s the difference between lenses and the choices we go for as creators. Great example of that coming next week 😉

    As an enthusiast, the 3 primes I shot with back then, some 45 years ago were 24 f/2, 50 f/1.8 and 105 f/2.5. Now, the 50 f/1.2 and 85 f/1.2 but mostly zooms such as the holy trinity, although I wish I had the 200 f/2 as well. 🙂

    If I can I would buy all GM primes but currently after tons of research and budgeting I got the ff:
    24 1.4 GM- Best for all around with high MP camera. Can be one and done.
    35 Zeiss 2.8- light and the color pop
    55 1.8 Zeiss- Great and fast
    90 2.8 G- My 85 ish and macro 2 in 1 lens which I attach to my apsc giving me 135 mm F3.5 ish lens.
    I would have got the 135 GM but can’t decide if it will be enough reach. I am on a look out for a new third party zoom lens or just the 100-400 GM and an all rounder zoom 2.8 soon as price drops due to new versions released

    3 primes for me, Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 DG DN, Sigma Art 85mm 1.4 DG DN and the Sony GM 135mm 1.8 - job done :-)

    I only use prime Lenses, my most important Lenses is 35mm and a Macro Lens, I have 2 35mm Lenses, the Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 ZA which is so light and small that you always can have space for it in the bag or a pocket, the other is the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which is a great Lens about the same size as the Sony 35mm 1.8, the Voigtländer is build like a tank and the optical image quality is at least as good as the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM. My most used Macro Lens is the Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.5, I also 14mm, 21mm, 24mm, 55mm, 65mm, 85mm, 135mm and a lot of analog adapted Lenses. Most often I go with 2 Cameras in a small shoulder bag, one with a wide angle and the other with a short tele Lens and maybe a third Lens, more Lenses if I carry a backpack.

      I have the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, but after I got the Voigtländer Macro APO-Lenthar 110mm 2.5 which is smaller and lighter, I do only rarely use the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, If it was today I was to buy a 135mm Lens, then I would get the Zeiss Batis Apo Sonnar 135mm 2.8, recently I noticed that most of my images with the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM is with aperture 2.8 to 5.6, so no need for aperture 1.8 !

    I also want to buy a 35mm lens but can't decide between the f1.4 and f.18. Mainly because of the minimum focusing distance. 😅

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Have a look on the channel, there’s a video I think about the two of them. Not specifically about focusing distance but it may help you decide!
      The 1.8 is lovely if you want ti save some cash

    • @cameraprepper7938

      Get the Tamron 35mm 2.8 if you want a good close focus, if you do not need autofocus, get the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical (I have it, same size as the Sony 35mm 1.8), the optical image quality is at least as good as the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM, I can also recommend the very light and compact Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 ZA which I got used recently for US$215 (taxes included). In the long run most photographers like light and small Lenses over heavy and big Lenses.

    I just bought an A7Siii with a 35mm 1.4 GM lens. Didn't do my research on the lens and was concerned with people saying it has a lot of focus breathing. I've heard the A7Siii is supposed to get an update to add focus breathing compensation soon but I wish these Sony lenses never had this problem to begin with. Just seems like Sony trying to cover a pretty major flaw.

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yeah, the 35gm does have a fair bit. Not sticking up for Sony but most brands have focus breathing, unfortunately the 35gm is really noticeable.
      Update hopefully in the spring though 🙌🏻

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 Před 7 měsíci

      Lens design is a trade-off. In order to make a small, compact, and sharp lens, Sony had to forgo any correction for focus breathing. It get's tricky because fixing one problem often introduces another problem. So it's all a balancing act, and they decided to make it as optically good as possible so that any digital corrections result in zero impact in image quality. If it had no breathing, expect it to be the size of a Sigma 35mm f/1.2 probably.
