I was incredibly happy to learn that Forest Whitaker got an Oscar for his performance as Amin, because it was a truly incredible portrayal, but I do think that James' performance in this movie was kind of overlooked because so much focus was put on Forest... I definitely think that James deserved at least a nomination for his performance in this movie - and for his acting in Atonement too. That's twice he's been snubbed by the Academy...
Qwerty! FANTASTIC INTERVIEW! Thank you so much for this. He's talked before about disliking the screenplay upon first reading and how Kevin MacDonald agreed to let him work out his character as part of the deal....but to thoroughly inform that script and change the more "great, white hope" elements of it into something far more powerful, resonant and representative...It's not a detail or a nuance in a performance...
There's some real moral high ground taken there. I don't think people realize what a difference it made to the film. It, literally, would have been a completely different film without him.
@hellokitty4me He didn't do it directly, but he did cause quite a bit of suffering with his actions. He advised Amin to do all of these things that helped Amin stay in power, and he did those things because he WAS a very self-absorbed and naive character.
I loooove James! I know we girls day dream with hot actors...but James ohhhh I want him to have his way with me, he is just so fucking sexy, his caracters are good but when you see his interviews he seems just as passionate!
They say he's done bad things, but I don't think he did. All he did was sleep with that mans wife. Back then it was a big deal, but still. It shouldn't be something worth dying for. Sure his character was selfish and naive. But that doesn't make him a bad person just a pathetic one.

When he said “you should have told me not to throw the Asians out” I screamed “bruh he did”!
It's just so sad, both the actual history and the movie that portrays it. The second half of the film was unbelievably tense.
Great movie

Great actor James and Forest

The movie was pretty intense watching. Obviously the cast thought the same way, as McAvoy looks pretty stressed out after making the movie

This is why actors should keep away from Politics.
