  • MELASMA?? Which Foundations Cover It?
    Hi lovelies,
Melasma can be a tricky little problem!! And I find that while some foundations have very full coverage elsewhere they don't cover my melasma!! So I'm putting all my fullest coverage foundations to the test!!

    FAQs!!
My skin is normal with a very slightly oily t zone and early signs of aging like fine lines as well as some sun damage and REDNESS!
    My Necklace:
I get sooooo many questions about it, I'm so sorry it's not a happy answer! Its actually 2 necklaces together, and both were gifts so I don't have much detail, here is everything my hubby can remember! The larger disc and the chain were from Azendi, it has a picture of the moon and reads "The same moon around the world" (which is something that meant a lot to us when we first met and he was travelling with work A LOT). The smaller discs were from www.notonthehighstreet.com and they have my daughter's fingerprints and name and date of birth and they were a present when she was born. They don't seem to be available anymore I'm sorry!!

Although this is a 3yr old video, it’s still very relevant and helpful. Thank you. Not many credible content creators are talking about melasma and the tips for dealing with it. It is frustrating having a persistent skin condition while 98% of makeup tutorials out there are not very useful for ppl with melasma. Would love an update on this topic, it’s great!

I use Loréal infallible. I have melasma on my forhead, almost the whole right cheek, my chin and all over my upper lip (looks like I have a moustasche). I use just a bit more Foundation on these places to cover it. I would love to feel comfortable in just a BB creame, expecially in the summer. The melasma is always there more or less for me.

For oily skin : Urban decay all nighter foundation is amazing. The Estée Lauder double wear camouflage is too creamy for oily skin and can come across cakey. I have tried everything and like I said Urban decay is best it covers with just a small amount. The color does oxidize so I suggest asking for samples from macys or sephora leave it on skin for 15 mins and find your match

The Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover in the dark blue tube is awesome! A tiny amount is needed. I use it after my regular foundation is on, I will apply this just over the areas that need the coverage. Less is more with this one! You can build it some too.

I find melasma really hard to cover. I have the Lancôme tient idole and it does help, but the melasma areas tend to pick up color differently from the rest of my skin. Even with foundation and concealer one I get my blush/bronzer on somehow these two spots on the right side of my face have decided to darken and look just as prominent as usual. (I’m now working with a dermatologist to reduce the areas. Hoping that makes a difference one day.)

    Super helpful!
You know, I rarely hear anyone speak about Melasma, or when I do it’s always related to pregnancy.
Mine appeared long after pregnancy, I was almost 30, and it’s been here ever since I’m 36 now ....guess it’s staying ...
Mines similar to yours in coloring/intensity...but mainly along my temples/ hairline, uneven of of course, I also have a patch real close under my left eye ...that’s super hard to cover and looks grey/shadowy under concealer!
If I’m not particular with products/application I’ll look like I have dirt smeared at my temples and all along my hairline ....not a good look!
I like a medium coverage foundation but I almost always have to use a separate foundation or concealer on the melasma areas.
Anyhow ...bless you for this video ....your a gem!

Charlotte would love a follow up w/ concealers (under eye & face as the former really requires a smoother texture than the latter imo). Content on makeup for melasma is so scant on CZcams...current content even more so! The darker foundations that don’t match your skin tone are getting higher marks because they are covering but they’re not the correct color for your face and they look pretty thick, and then the lighter color foundations that match your face are the ones that are getting the lowest marks, so I think it’s just the lighter colors that aren’t as effective. I have the same problem

This was a great idea to do it this way, quick and to the point. Agree with a viewer below... Estes Lauder Maximum coverage but...add a drop of face oil or Mac Strobe Cream or LOreal Lumi Glowtion to get more luminosity and needed moisture for those of us with dry skin. A surprising drug store wonder is Maybelline Dreamcover and I add No 7 Foundation drops for more coverage. Those drops can be added to any foundation to add more pigment and make it filled coverage. It really works! I have lots of melasma on my cheeks and these tips work!

I feel you on the melasma- I am super pale, usually one of the first two shades in a foundation line, yet since I had my son, I've developed weird pigment patches on my face, one is like a black dot on my forehead.
I've heard cellex c do a product that works really well to fade melasma. Hoping to try it soon. Micro needling and laser also meant to be good. I don't mind mine too much, but it's not easy to cover with glowy foundations as they're usually light to medium coverage.

I have melasma pretty bad I own vary expensive and full coverage... I own Drugstore and everything in-between... But Revlon colorstay is a solid medium that builds to full and it absolutely is my favorite liquid foundation bcuz it's much less textured looking than any other liquid foundation with full coverage... I use that with bareminerals original powder or Makeup forever velvet matte full coverage foundation powder... As for concealer I use la girl concealer only in the color correct shade peach... For normal concealer I use elf camo.. colorstay stick concealer and Maybelline age rewind... The Maybelline isn't the fullest coverage but it is good for inner corner eye darkness and it doesn't look as heavy as elf camo... But the colorstay stick is actually the best stick concealer hands down... Anyway thanks for your video it's awesome to see ppl doing videos for ppl like us with melasma... I'm light, neutral, (MAC NC20 but not so yellow, Laura Mercier Flawless Lumière 2N1, DIOR Backstage 1,5 N, E.L Double Wear 2N1, NARS Salzbourg). I don't self tan my body, in order to use a darker foundation that will cover it. So, to cover up my melasma with any full cover foundation, for me is an illusion. After a few minutes, it emerges from below with his full gray glory.

Megan Marie DeCristofor ............................My melisma a novella use as close of a color to your foundation as you can. Never lighter, Spot conceal first, don’t blend, , let it sit and dry for as long as you can (1-3 min ) then do your foundation. As you lightly , and gently gently gently take your time dabbing go over the melisma last , and as you blend the foundation the concealer under will blend too. Take a look and see if you need to apply another layer on top , let it sit longer if you have to, powder with damp sponge unless you have EXTRA dry skin . I have a melisma mustache, it’s my favorite........it literally looks like a 5pm shadow.

It's a great foundation! I'm not sold on the concealer yet, but trying it out in different ways. My main criticism is that they don't go pale enough, so the palest concealer is slightly too dark for my Scottish skin, but I think they're a line developed for women of colour, so that's fair enough really. Maybe they'll expand over time. I would also say it's slightly on the dry side, so needs an oily skin or good hydration underneath.

    Great video👍
I have the exact same problem. And it makes me look so tired, especially those melasma under the eye. I‘m 34 and i cannot use those thick heavy foundations any more. And if that would be not enough, I have super light olive skin. In the summer it’s ok because I can get away with slightly darker foundation. For me it’s a real struggle with the extrem olive tone AND the melasma:/ For me, my holy grail have been for many years Armani luminous Silk in 6. this is such a unique shade. Which is very green, almost greyish. I think it’s the tone of the foundation that can demish the appearance of the melasma. It’s all about colourwheel I guess. But the CYO lifeproof works great as well for me, because of its grey undertone.
Or you can use a slightly peachy corrector just for those areas and then your favourite foundation.
For me, I use retinol, vitamin c and a high SPF daily, dermarolling. Otherwise I keep it very simple with skincare. But it’s a struggle. The thing is, they fade and disappear but you have to really keep up.
I have heard that this is common when your are taking the Pill. This is something you have to deal with unfortunately. Especially when you are exposed to the sun. That’s at least the case for me.

I have never taken the pill and got it when I was like 4 days pregnant, not even joking. One morning just woke up and had 3 zillion tiny dark spots which from a far look like I have a deep beige sheet mask on which never comes off unfortunately. But I definitely noticed the melasma at least 10 days before testing positive

    • @SmileLC100
      @SmileLC100 Před 5 lety +2

For me it’s the pill unfortunately, at least what I can say. But I have heard also that olive skin is more prone to melasma or general sun spots. Sometime I think, whatever, if people can see my melasma that’s fine:)
But I tried the Rodial one off of your recommendation. And this is foundation covers really so great and it looks beautiful.
Melasma is often a hormonal thing, so that’s why sometimes it can happen with the pill or pregnancy for example.
But this was as great video. Love how honest your are and you’re not afraid of showing those melasma. And even with those, you look stunning;)

What a great video! So honest on your part. Prescription products and medical laser treatments for melasma and rosacea are expensive in country, but it is possible to get reimbursed fully or partially when a person's ability to get employment depends on the treatment (the justification is that the person can then become a taxpayer). Is it the same in the UK?

    • @CharlotteHoldcroft
      @CharlotteHoldcroft  Před 5 lety

Thank you lovely! Definitely not, melasma certainly wouldn't affect your ability to be employed anyway, but in the UK you only get medical treatment that is medically necessary on the NHS and even then it's a very long wait usually x

PS you have a lot of the same foundations as i have and like. I don't have malasma but like a 4/5 and sometimes a 5/5 coverage. I also mix mine, like i mix the Rodial with the TF BTW and also use one foundation on one part of my fave and another in a different area ( lines n texture ya know) .My most FC has to be the Make up Forever ultra i reckon, in both liquid and stick and is easy to sheer out or build up and it is my HG. xoxo

Charlotte .. melasma is pigmentation affecting the lower 2/3rds of the face extending onto the neck. When i look at the distribution of your pigmentation , you are affected on the forhead as well as nose , cheeks and chin..to me it looks like you are applying a coarse facial scrub on a regular basis..this coarse scrub/ friction will cause hyperpigmentation in some people..if you are using a coarse scrub, stop. None the less..for the purposes of concealing pigment , thus was a good tutorial.

I have melasma and it never covers unless I use a ton of foundation, but my foundation just melts off anyways. I sweat a lot and I use all the things ppl swear by to keep my makeup in its place but nothing works. It cakes, smears, settles into fine lines, and exposes my melasma. My face looks great right after I finish my makeup but as soon as I'm out the door and sweating the makeup starts running and I'm wiping my forehead all day to get the sweat off and of course where I sweat is where the melasma is. And I have fair skin. Melasma just popped up this year like 6 months ago right after I turned 39. I never got it while pregnant and what started off as a small brown spot and a mustache and van dyke is now a full on racoons mask. I'm embarrassed. I never see anyone else with this problem. Everyone else's makeup looks flawless, but not mine!
