HOW TO INSTALL FLOAT SWITCH FOR WATER PUMP

  • A float switch detects the level of a liquid in a tank or container. It floats on top of the liquid surface and acts as a mechanical switch as the liquid level goes up or down. They control devices like pumps (pump water in or out), valves (open or close inlet/outlets), or alarms to notify users. They are cost-effective, reliable, and can be used with a wide variety of liquids.
    float switch provides versatile multifunction control for pump
    protection, pump control, 3-way valve control and tank water level management. Operating as a single-pole, double throw (SPDT) switch, the
    multifunction float switch is used to protect pumps from running dry, to
    add water from an outside source such as a well when the water reaches
    a minimum level, or to activate a pump or valve to drain the tank when
    the water level reaches a maximum level. The switch can also be used to
    control a 3-way valve for a backup water supply.
    In short, a float switch is a mechanical switch that floats on top of a liquid surface. As the liquid level goes up or down, it moves vertically with the liquid level. Depending on the counterweight and pre-set trigger, the mechanical switch opens or closes allowing an electrical current through it to the connected device. Typically, this connected device either stops or starts the inflow of the liquid.
    A float switch consists of a hollow floating body and an internal switch, also called a sensor. The most common internal switch is a reed switch, so there is also a magnet inside the body. There are other types of internal switches, but the working principle that they open/close due to gravity and water level moving the float switch vertically up or down is the same. Therefore, the mechanical switch creates an open or closed electrical circuit.

    In installations where the float switch is lowered freely into the tank, a
    weight will be required. An optional cord weight is available for installations where the float switch is not secured to a fixed object such as
    a pump pressure line at the desired water level. The pump weight is
    installed by attaching the supplied clip onto the desired location on the
    cord and then the weight is pulled down
    the cord, tapered end first, until the clip is
    tightly embedded inside the plastic weight
    housing.

    An excellent tutorial. I followed it step by step and everything worked. My float switch had three wires: blue, brown and yellow/green. The brown was the wire to tape off and not use, blue went to terminal 3 and yellow/green to A2. Hope this helps someone.

    thanks for this brief and very clear video. just the way i wanted it to be. its been a long time that i like to install a float switch by myself but not very convinced yet because of my lack of knowledge about stuff like this. i have also watched a lot of videos about this matter but none were conducive enough for me to abosrb the details. thanks and kudos!

    • @sadaqat_ali
      @sadaqat_ali Před 5 měsíci +2

      Personally I don't think so, if the flow switch leaks it can be disastrous if you don't have earthing.
      Safe way is:
      Operate a 12v relay using the float switch and operate the pump using relay contacts so if the float switch leaks it will only leak 12v not 220v.
      People say the float switch is safe but for personal preference and peace of mind I have used the above circuit.

    Is the neutral run through the float switch? Mine is a simple two wire device. Seems safer to interrupt neutral with the tank float switch than 120v run through it.

    Working in the EU standard, (and the float switch seems to be made out in that standard as well - Brown for L1, black for L2/Com1, blue for neutral) it seems wrong to not follow those standards for the rest of the wiring as well. Without a wiring schematic for the float switch, I of course can only speculate how it's supposed to be wired, but it seems weird to connect the blue wire to phase and the black wire to neutral.

      Totally wrong in the float find the common with meter common to one wire will show NO normally close and and normally open in the starter find the jumper green button and red button connected to the common to the jumper remove bottom of green button connected to start when tank level comes down to start when reaches stopped so even power shutdown this motor will start stopped automatically

      It really helps make what you write readable. As it stands, I need a code key and an enigma machine to interpret what you've written, and I still risk a brain aneurysm it I were to try it.

    • @dvmartel1
      @dvmartel1 Před měsícem

      The weight holds down the float underwater. It sets the arc the float uses to turn on and off. If there was no weight, the float valve would stay at water level and would not act as an on/off switch.
