It is pure manifestation of soul, nothing else. It is hard to believe in future that such kind of music can be created. Every time when I listen Ustad, always fed away in seconds. I admire him.

ekdam sahi baat....Ustad Ali Akbar's music comes out of the deepest part of your inner being....you cannot just calculate and pre-plan and play this kind of music....this directly comes out from the heart of a man who has got to a simply different level through his relentless dedication and love...aisa koi hae nahin aur...

We cannot deny his mastery which comes from his gharana and his father Ustad Allaudiin Khan's teaching and he has kept this tradition by bringing his son Ashish to as greater heights as himself. Listen to his jugalbandi with Indranil Bhattacharya again on raag kirwani.

Thank you Ustad Ali Akbar Khan for giving us the greatest gifts of music. I have been listening to your music from a very early age and now I am almost 55 and your music still stirs my soul the same way. May you rest in peace always...!!!

I agree that Kirwaani is an easily likeable raag. Any new performer can get quick applaud or acclaim by playing it specially on Sitar Sarod and Violine. So many have played did raag. Its Carnatic flavour and some style remains even while played and sung in North Indian Style.so this fusion gives another flavour.Maestros like Ravishankar Ali Akbar Amjad Ail Khan Shvkumr Dharma Parween Malini Rajurkar Ashwini Bhide Budhaditya Nikhil Bannrjy have proved that this Raag has extraordinary potencials .

I find it hard to like Kirwani, but the Ustad makes you like everything he touches! Beautiful, and such appropriate and delicate accompaniment by Shankar Ghosh ji. Extremely well recorded too. Thank you very much.

Kirwani is in western terms the harmonic minor. As such it is dissimilar to other ragas and can be played without too much concern about treading on the toes of other ragas. If one were compose chords to this raga they could be ; Cm, Fm, G, and from there you can create more obtuse variations. Two pentatonics that stand out are Sarang and ChandraKauns.

I totally agree with the comments of Mr Shakil Ahmed & Shri Yogeshchandra!! Such is the effect of Sarod! After all he is disciple of the Great Ustad Allauddin Khansaab lived for 110 years! Ofcourse also his Son. Ustad Alluddin Khan was a master handling number instruments! Both Pandit Ravishankar & Ustad Alluddin khan had a rigorous "Riyaz" achieved mastery in their instruments! Both were very "Pakka" master in Taal! Those were the Golden days in Bombay I attended number times and enjoyed this celestial Music! Thanks for uploading!!

Although the origin of this raga Kirwani is from South Indian Karnataki music, these two masteroes, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pt. Ravi Shankar played this raga in such a style, it always sounded to be an original North Indian raga and gave the audience the immense pleasure. Pt. Shankar Ghosh as usual in his best form on tabla.

I wonder how is it possible to hear any other sarod players. Ustadji has deified sarod or perhaps sarod has deified Ustad-ji. Sarod doesn't sound, so pure, so heavenly and blissful from anybody else. It will take centuries to even realize just how unimaginably beautiful Swarasamrat's music is.

Ustad Ali Akbar Khan is indeed an exceptional artist, but to comment that it is not possible to hear any other sarod-player, is a tad off the mark.
Artists like Amjad Ali Khan, Radhika Mohan Maitra & Buddhadev Dasgupta have several recordings that compare very favourably with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan's artistry.

Rajeev Taranath recorded a phenomenal Keervani (HMV cassette, with Yaman on the other side perhaps?) - very haunting and not as pretty as typically played. And he has brought out similar aspects in Chandranandan (though not so much in the published recordings).
