It was amazing how prolific he was with his different looks. I was at the same clubs as Leigh a lot in the early 90s and seeing him strutting out in his new confections was always such a highlight. Truly a living work of art. RIP.
In Mark E Smith's autobigraphy he recounts going to the roughest pub in Glasgow with Leigh Bowery, whilst they were both working with Michael Clarke. MES was not one to be impressed with anyone generally but he spoke very fondly of how Leigh just strode in there and immediately commanded the room and was defiantly himself in any situation.
I wish we can all live in a world where we can feel free to express ourselves without any judgment, or fear of being rejected. The social constructs of society of how one is supposed to perform their gender is oppressive and limiting for all of us to truly do the things we won't "normally" do.
How come 🙄🤔😫there hasn't been a bowery biopic yet? Perhaps because others' stories have been butchered, or given misrepresenration, and lots of exaggerated fabrications. Oh well Leigh's story would make a good 👍😏 story if told correctly. Outrageous and endearing @the same time ! RIP 🙏
@checky monkey Yes Leigh was quite beloved by the housewives at the time. He was so quirky and artsy, every mum wanted him as their son. Strange to think people would be disturbed by his concepts, such a sheltered time , the 21st century.
Those kids clapping during the runway while everyone else is silent.🥰
Absolutely great
Today's fashion and artistic leaders were once those kids clapping to such genius. RIP, Leigh Bowery, you inspired a whole generation, and more.
"I'm a real fashion fan. But I'm not completely sure what effect it has on me."
Gotta love him.
Makes me realise how boring everyone else is. I love him.
I love his sing song casual tones as he twirls in front of terrified families. Absolutely brilliant.

You are so lucky to have experienced this
bro, he litteraly shat on his audience. this man was demon possesed
The beauty of Leigh Bowery is his fearlessness and the joy he radiates from his art.
"The staff here adore me." - :')

Way to go clapping kid at 1:52 You were the future!
They’re like “yasss qween!”
A rather indiscreet scattering of sequins is my life motto
He passed too soon. Wish I coexisted with this legend.
He was his own work of art. Brilliant.

I miss the 80s
damn leigh bowrey is an amazing amazing individual
Very Proud to have included Leigh in my project..." A day in London - Theatre and Performer"
Such a tragic loss. NY is so boring without people like this.
Gotta love Leigh Bowery. And just when you think he can’t get any more outrageous, he claims to have found ‘bargains’ at Harrods. 😉
Had Leigh stayed alive today he will be regarded as a living god in the fashion and performance art community. Gone too soon.😔
Leigh was so iconic
I used to see him pottering about the West End sometimes ....the world is a drabber place for his passing .
Don't lie Roger, you've never even been to London!
just discovered Leigh, I must say, I love his elegance in this video!
This is magical.
Have been watching this piece of genius 4 times a week! What an inspiration!
I love how the kids in the back are clapping for him 😅 they recognised the greatness in front of them!
I love that the kid was clapping as he strut through the restaurant.
He frightened the shit out of me back in the day, I guess I was just a small town boy

The thing is, that he seems two steps removed from Benny Hill !!!!!!!!

Who could play Leigh Bowery convincingly as long as there are folks who remember the real thing?
Boy George played Leigh Bowery in the Broadway show Taboo @@keithnichols7926
They just referenced him on Sew Fierce, but Id never heard of him. Appears to be Lady Gaga's father. He's riveting & brilliant.
Brilliant free spirit.
