George Ropers standup gags about Bernard were absolute gems 😂
11:26 the singer Cliff Richard. One time, min the 1980s, he was in the crowd at the Wimbledon tennis championship and entertained the crowd by singing when the tennis was delayed by rain.
Charlie Williams the Boxer guy was a good Footballer was from Barnsley South Yorkshire a very broad accent to understand even within the same region.. Charlie was born in 1927 and died in 2006 RIP Charlie Williams🥲
Also. Footballer
The last turn on the list Colin Crompton , was the compare/host on a show " The Wheel tappers and shunters club ", and this is who Bernard Manning is taking the micky about in the first part of this show.
Bought a jellyfish and it set...Priceless.
Wow this brought back memories, bless most of them have passed now. Charlie Williams , the black comedian was a much beloved comedian and he came from Barnsley not far from where I live in Sheffield.!
The old comedy programmes, brilliant, they don't do them like that much now, mores the pity! Thanks for reacting to it.Ihad a great laugh! I'm old enough to remember this on telly! (62) nostalgia is a great feeling! Nothing better than a good laugh X
That was a good laugh, Squirrel. Thank you.
Re Cliff Richard, he is a top British pop/rock singer with hits in every decade from the 1950s. He is a Christian and appeared with Billy Graham when he was in the UK. He took a lot of stick for his beliefs even to the point of many DJs refusing to play his music. He loves tennis, dated a tennis star for a while and entertained the crowd at Wimbledon once when rain stopped play. As you may have guessed he never made it big in the US.
Very close friends with the sadly missed Olivia Newton John whose early career he assisted enormously...
There was a long history of Northern working men's clubs, and comedians that did the circuit. This TV program was an attempt to bring them onto national TV. Where they had to clean up their jokes. I well remember watching the show on a Saturday night. 😂
programme.
Russ Abbott did make it into the mainstream with his own TV shows and hosting others. He also went on to a long acting career.
Russ Abbots Mad House. Loved that show
Guinea's a old british monetery unit. equivelant to one pound and five pence. Still used to buy and sell racehorses!
Great oldschool comedy from a host of greats 😂
3:02 - if you couldn't hear it, the dentist joke ends with "Here's a dollar - slacken 'em!"
So good seeing this group of legends. Yes 70s
The older clips were mostly from a tv programme called "the comedians" always good for a laugh and the launch of many greats.
Wow! Stan Boardman's still with us. Most of these fellahs are long gone.
Tony, was Stan Boardman not Stab😂, check his 'German Fockers' on Des O'Connor Show. Cliff Richard was his impression singing 'Living Doll'
Seen fockers and I think the doll but I’ll look to double check. Thank You.
Ken Goodwin recommended for his silly boyish act where he acts shy and laughs at his own jokes. That's usually bad form, but he's so immature and it's part of his act. He had people laughing before he said a word.
Hey Tony👍that was great seeing these old boys from yesteryear, love it when they roast each other🤣good fun, cheers mate✌️
Superb. Thank you. My childhood. 😂
Charlie Williams was born in 1927, signed for Doncaster Rovers in 1948 as one of the first post-war Black players. Was also the first well-known black comedians in the UK. Did not box, believe that was to set up his joke about using a knife
Hey Squirrel……good evening , grew up with all these , I didn’t get it, but my late dad was roaring…..👍😜👌⭐️🇮🇲. Ps Stan Boardman was impersonating Cliff Richard the singer….👍😉🇮🇲.
22:10 That show (“The Comedians Christmas Cracker”) was in 1993. Charlie Williams was 1927-2006. Most of these people are from “The Comedians” a series from the mid-1970s.
Hey Squirrel, great to see these comedians again, we used to watch (The Comedians) program quite often. Although, in the `70`s you had to make a choice, if there were 2 good programs on at the same time, one on BBC 1 the other on ITV. I don`t know where they got the name Stab Boardman from his name is Stan Boardman.
Apparently, he is still touring at 86 Yrs old. Always loved him, Charlie Williams, Ken Goodwin, Frank Carson, Mike Reid, Mick Miller & Jimmy Cricket. I can`t remember seeing Les Dennis or Russ Abbot until they had their own program. I was surprised to note that Ken Goodwin & Frank Carson both died in 2012 within 4 days of each other.
Fun nights in front of the TV.. thanks for reacting.
Frank Carson, the manic Irishman, with the black specs, is always worth a look!!
Check out his appearance on TISWAS, a Saturday morning kid's show, on ITV in 70's/early 80's, where he was challenged to make the presenters laugh!!!
For Frank it was E-Z P-Z!! 🤣🤣🤣
Good memories.
Ken Goodwin's joke about running his spade up and down an expensive car and his dad saying you break the spade you wont get another one, rather than the fact he was damaging the car reminded me of a once neighbour whose child kept jumping into our hedge damaging it. His mother came out and instead of telling him off, she told him he was doing it all wrong and should be jumping into it backwards instead!! She was a case and if that was her hedge it would have been a different matter all together.
lol dang hedge jumpers
The kid was scraping his spade along the side of the Rolls Royce!
😮
Omg brings back me & mum god bless Ken Goodwin such a funny man me & mum went & saw the comedians in Glasgow 2005/2006 in pavilion theatre just amazing night of laughs Tony please please can you get the full video of an audience with Ken Dodd I beg you mate & more of Ken Goodwin as well
My Dad (born 1916) always called five shillings "a Dollar", that's twenty five pence in modern sterling. The reason for this I believe was that it was around four dollars to the Pound for many years, pre war
Sorry some quips passed you by, but you got most of them. The Comedians were daft, daft, daft and we needed a laugh in the 1970s. Some blokes complained that you couldn't tell jokes any more at the pub, because everyone had heard them on The Comedians. Great days.
My wife and I had the chance to go and see Bernard Manning, many years ago as he was doing a Set at a Pub (bar) nearby. It was a Comedy and Curry night. He was booked for three nights over 3 weeks, we thought we'd go the week after, He did the first and died several days later.
Oh wow. That’s hard luck
@@TheRealSquirrel Always regretted that one. I heard from a friend at my former job who was there on the first and only night, it was amazing. Even my Father saw him live at the Embassy Club
These must be pre1971 as several of them refer to money values in old terms - 30 bob = 30 shillings = £1.50 in decimal money; 12 guineas was 12 pound and 12 shillings (£12.60 now) - a guinea was frequently a term used in auctions and was 21 shillings - £1.05 - the extra shilling was the fee for the auction house.
12 Guinea's, old English money I think. The impression was Cliff Richard.
12 guineas, was 21 shillings, or 1 pound and 1 shilling, or 5,040 peenies. Today £1.05
@@tallthinkevYou mean ONE guinea was 21 shillings. And 5040 pennies is 21 POUNDS (or 20 guineas) by my calculation!
Charlie said "Slacken them" to the dentist!
Loosen= slacken!
I'd forgotten how fast Charlie Williams was in his younger days. Erm. This isn't a programme we watched in our house fortunately. Since my mother was deaf, I would have to explain back the jokes to her. I knew too well the reaction I'd get to most of them. Avoidance is the better part of sanity.
Try checking out les dawson ... especially as cissy and ada with roy baraclough .. so funny ... and mother in law jokes ...
Who's, 'Stab Boardman?' 🤣 I know Stan, but not Stab... maybe that's what they think should happen to him!
I remember the roughest pub in town, where they check you for knives before you go in, and if you don't have, they supply you with one before you go in.
Stab Boardman... the well-known typographid errop
🤣
You should be able to search out the 1970's Saturday night show "The Comedians" all these guys were on that.
I’ll look for more
It is 'Stan' not 'Stab' Boardman. The impression he did was of Cliff Richard.
wheel tapper and shunters social club was a tv show filmed at the embassy club in Manchester owned by Bernard Manning that started another tv show THE COMEDIANS filmed at the same location to show case the the top club comedians of the day i worked at the club for a couple of years as a DJ what a fantastic time i had too Bernard was one of the nicest men i ever met who did a lot of work and donations for local charities
I think it’s a bit extreme to call Bernard such a horrible person, he was and is always a legend.
Hey Squirrel……good evening 👍😜👌⭐️🇮🇲
😁
That should be Stan not Stab. And his impression was of Cliff Richard.
Jim Bowen had a nice pub near were i lived we were locking in after hours drinking with him a few times great guy
Having my town of Stockport compared to Morcombe ... not sure how to feel about that.
🤣
All northern comedians
All them smokers
Right! Funny I smoked for 33 years and I don’t see anyone smoking much anymore. In my state they are now $14 a pack!
I have a radio recording with Duggie Brown in it, it is funny, ish
Ps. I did that deliberately spelt it wrong. Watch the reaction.
Impression
It was cliff richard a religious pop singer said to be a virgin!!!!
Have you watched "Bernard Manning - from beyond the grave"? It is certainly unusual but well put together.
Bernard's great. I remember comedian Chubby Brown saying that when he found out he had throat cancer, that Bernard was the first one to call him with well wishes.
I once met Russ Abbot after a gig, he was such a naturally funny man. 😂😂
That was when we were allowed to laugh at jokes, now no one is allowed to joke due to “ist” and woke
Agreed
I agree and love to see the old timers 😂 nowadays it’s too censored.
not featured on this but you want to check out Duncan Norvelle
Thank You
🇮🇲
Shout out to David Birchall!! 😁
Aye, when comedy was funny! Unlike the unfunny woke dross now.
Totally agree
