- This is a RWBY fan animation. In this short we explore life, and Grimm, in ordinary villages not protected by kingdoms nor huntsmen. People, as tenacious as they are, will form a militia to defend their simpler way of life from anything the dark wilderness of Remnant has to throw at them.
I am Rax, I focus on making fight animations featuring original scary monsters. I am relatively new to animation, if you have any feedback or critique, feel free to leave a comment below. I try to read everything. Thank you for helping me improve!

Something tells me if that Grimm with its fighting style was actually in the show proper that it would be a major season boss like the Nuckelavee or Leviathan. You'd need a whole team of Huntsmen to take it down. Crazy good animation on the fighting scenes and the atmosphere was perfect for the slaughter that commenced. Awesome.
Not really, I guess you're not very familiar with the supplementary material and all the countless abilities and attacks common Grimm have been shown to have
It would have been awesome.
Considering how the franchise loves using Grimm as just canonfoughter and how they killed off the hound, I feel like its death would be rather anticlimactic and would just killed off easily.
This guy's scary, for sure. And definitely showcases why you don't want to be in a settlement too far away from a huntsman or huntress. However none of those town guards had aura, let alone semblances. My guess this was pre-aura training and pre-discovery of dust. That or any warrior or dust-user was out of town at the time.
It would definitely be interesting, but I think you would need Monty in order to get the fight choreography right
Similar to the Nuckelavee, but not to a Leviathan level.
Leviathan seems to require more than just a team (an entire army with a giant robot had trouble fighting it) while a Nuckelavee just need a well coordinated team.
I love it when Grimm are allowed to show a hint of intelligence and malice instead of just being easily duped beasts.
This Grimm is sick. Had a Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, General Grevious feel to it. Menacing as hell.
I was getting the same feeling about it too and how deadly it is, the dread it brings and how sadistic it can be, since than I'd came up with a name for it "The Dreadful Death"
Better play his theme song with this video
Shit yeah it did.
Whatever this Grimm is called, it's amazing and sells the intellectual abilities of the Grimm and what really makes them terrifying. In the show proper its explained that Grimm get stronger and smarter the older they get but really we've only seen the stronger side of that idea, but this sells why the Grimm aren't only a danger to people, they aren't the stuff of nightmares just because they have raw strength and overwhelming numbers, they are fear craving murder machines that love the negative emotions of their prey. This honestly reminds me of the Transformer spin off show, Beast Wars, specifically the debut episode of the character Rampage. In the final moments of the video I can almost here Rampages voice coming from this Grimm before it finishes the job.
Also, I get the feeling from this Grimm that it not only feels and is attracted to negative emotions, but actually enjoys terror. Not fear, but sheer, hopeless, terror. Which is why it left the last guy alive for so long, so that it could instill that feeling of 'oh shit, I'm going to die' for as long as possible. It shows that the Grimm don't just kill people aimlessly or becausethey were just told to by a higher power (Salem/the god of darkness), but that they are sadistic and enjoy what they do, at least for this or older versions of other Grimm.
Also the fight scene was amazing. Keep up the good work.
I would call it The Harvester
I'd call him The Poacher, because it is to humans what hunters are to grimms.

@@ShadowGaming-ft4fh Damn, that's a good name

Disregarding the fact that I'm totally left horrified by the fate of those poor people, brilliant work with this animation!
It definitely adds more lore to your take on the world of Remnant, it perfectly demonstrates that Humanity is not the dominant species on this gods forsaken planet, the Grimm shall always have that title. Speaking of which, this particular Grimm is the stuff of nightmare alright, forget about the Hound or other monstrosities, your creations takes the cake.
I look forward to see what you'll make next time!
You should watch the
"DARK" Trailer if you want to see more nightmare fuel grimm
The biggest problem with this one is that it's smart/uses its brain. Like that screws most people.
@@dasherplayz4471 Already seen it, was awesome!
@@theshadowreborn4778 Yeah it must be very old, easily ancient level and it must have had previous encounter with Huntsmen or at least combattants to get this level of adaptability and skills, makes you think how many already fell to its boney blades and claws.
And I shudder to think how many more people it will scythe through before it is put down for good.
It definitely emphasizes the value of Huntsman/Huntresses. If Grimm aren't coming at you in endless droves, it's a few or even just one doing so in an approach you ain't gotta clue on how to counter.
You could study a foot-thick textbook entirely dedicated to conventional tactical combat, to the point you can recite it word-for-word, and it would barely help. Grimm come in unorthodox forms and fight in unorthodox ways, which is why humanity uses unorthodox fighters.
No matter how ludicrous it may look, or how hurtful it's to the faith in your ability, Hunters make Grimm a LOT more beatable and you a LOT less dead.
In a 3 minute clip you made the Grimm seem actually scary something 9 seasons of the actual show has yet to be able to do, amazing work!
That's because we're seeing the Grimm from the perspectives of Huntsmen. It's like Grunts from the perspective of Master Chief, or demons from the perspective of the Doom Slayer.
@@nocount7517 Even then, our MCs were not Huntsmen for the beginning of the show when they should've made the Grimm threatening.

Holy Moly now this is really terrifying and atmospheric. I really love what you do with the Grimm and world building.
That was...wow.
I'm dumbfounded. That was a great horror movie. I love the choice to not have a hero show up at the end and save the day. And when I realized that this whole town was being gutted by one Grimm was really heavy, like these advanced, one-off Grimm make for great threats. The addition of the fog, and never giving a full view of the town made everything so claustrophobic. Ugh. I'm gonna salivate over this for days.
My lingering question is "where are the guns? Is this significantly before the other videos?" But that's such a small point, barely worth registering, great job anyway.
Keep up the phenomenal work!
Is it even that advanced? I think maybe the message of this is to show how dangerous Grimm as a whole are.
From the looks of the level of technology from what we see, the events there seem to have happened before the invention of guns, how unsafe everything was in Remnant's medieval era
@@jonsku6662 oh yeah gun's and Dust rounds would have made this fight a lot easier for the people he should make a follow up video years later a battalion of Atlesian troops face the Grimm but they handle it then the rest of the pack show up and slaughter them
This is so good! As well as showing the Grimm are a legitimate problem and not like a ‘storm trooper problem’ love it
Hound? Nuckalavee? apathy? sphinx?
In fairness, they have no Huntsmem/Huntress or Silver Eyed Warriors around.
Surprised no one made an OC with Silver Eyes to animate them kick ass and blast away Grimm with said eye powers.

Reminds me so much of 2003 General Grevious of using fear, surprise and intimidation. Excellent work and dare I say better than RWBY grimm design
Eh it's too overdetailed
Same honestly, the sheer brutality mixed with the flowing grace of each kill gave major Grevious vibes! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought so.
@@degeneratefreezypop2421 Seems it goes out of its way to kill people in certain ways which is not very animal like
@@degeneratefreezypop2421 Ditto.
One big problem I have with RWBY nowadays is the fact 99% of the Grimm seen on screen aren’t very threatening. They’re treated as a nuisance at best and some rpg mini-boss at worst by the protagonists.
THIS immediately solves that, showing how poorly the common people deal with the Grimm. Granted, this Grimm here seems to be much more intelligent and lethal than the average Grimm but the absolute brutality of the kills just adds to how much someone can feel for your average person in Remnant. Also something the actual show is missing. Does this Grimm have a name by the way? I vote for “The Skinner”.
Also funny story, just today I remembered your content and was wondering when you were going to upload again. Funny how that works, huh?
Grimm actually aren’t that much of a joke since volume 4 which a lot of people are mad at since they “nerfed” the characters. It was real bad at the start.
I respectfully disagree. The Grimm have only been getting more threatening since V4 had the centaur Grimm at the end. They needed the silver eyes to beat the kaiju, and Team RWBY had an extra hard time with the Apathy. Hell, one even beat Blake in V8. The only ones they beat easily are the ones we've seen so far.
@@rpsyco “The only ones they beat easily are the ones we’ve seen so far”, why do you think I said “99% of the time”, genius?
The Grimm like the Geist and the Nuckelavee (not a centaur) are treated as mere mini bosses, as I’ve said. And that Leviathan was a joke, all that thing did was destroy a tower that didn’t even kill anybody. The Hound was pretty awesome but it was killed off way too soon. And that fight with the Alpha Sentinel or whatever it was, was stupid, Blake beat Torchwick one on one, do you honestly expect me to believe she’ll have trouble with killing some oversized slug? And sure, the Apathy were a great and scary Grimm but I never got the feeling anyone was going to die.
So explain to me, “the Grimm have only been getting more threatening since V4” HOW?
@@nicholasshealy9040 No need to be rude, child.
They were treated as cannon fodder in V1-V3 much more than the more recent volumes, and the Grimm in these fan shorts are basically just the mini-bosses. Basically you're complaining that RWBY has cannon fodder grimm, but there's cannon fodder in every series. Not every grimm is going to be powerful enough to slaughter several huntsmen, or else the world would've been overrun a very long time ago.
@@rpsyco Right, I’m the rude one and you’re the fanboy who ignores criticism.
I’m saying there’s too much cannon fodder, just look at the episode in Vol. 7 where 80% of all that happens is fighting Grimm. We don’t see the Grimm cause any major damage and even outright IGNORE civilians. There isn’t any tension or stakes during the Grimm fights, something I’m sure that’s only been felt in the final few episodes of Vol. 3 and MAYBE 2.
And your calling the Grimm in this short animation the “mini boss”? I’ll ask again, how? We see this thing wreck shit up and essentially allowed us to see what the show has yet to, well, show and is conveniently the thing I talked about yesterday; the fact how poorly the average people deal with the Grimm. THIS makes us care because we SEE it happen, that’s why a lot of people don’t give a rat’s ass about the people of Mantle and Atlas. It especially doesn’t help that 90% of the population, if not more, escapes. Oh, and not to mention this thing WINS and the only other Grimm in the show managed to get a win on the protagonists is now dead. So how in God’s green Earth you think this thing is the “mini boss” is beyond me.
_Somewhere in an independent principality outside Vale, 300 BV_ (Before the signing of the Vytal Treaty)
Once, Sanus was home to many independent states of varying sizes and power. The lucky ones were absorbed into Vale's territory and protection, whether willingly or by force. The unlucky ones, or the ones too damn stubborn in their independence, did not survive to the present day. One major contributing factor to their downfalls was their often having a lack of access to any substantial amount of Dust and what primitive firearms existed at the time. Another was the liability to encounter Grimm of classes never encountered before, which could sometimes take out entire villages on their own due to the often-woeful state of their defences without a full scale Kingdom to back them up.
If he makes That CANNON it would explain everything
Man you are fucking EVERYWHERE.
God I love your work, you've always made the Grimm the terrifying threat they should have been to begin with. Your designs for the Grimm are fantastic and you're able to quickly build up both tension and suspense that leads the viewer to always be on edge over what will happen next.

Same here. It would be very interesting to see her fight without using most of her powers.
That was absolutely amazing the creepy atmosphere all the way to the end especially when the grim look like he was just toying with him
Amazing, amazing work. I definitely got strong vibes from General Grievous' introduction in the original Clone Wars cartoon. I assume that may have been a reference?
This short reminded me of when General Grievous made his debut in the 2003 Clone Wars series. A one of kind, unstoppable force of nature that was fully capable of cutting down even the greatest warriors with ease. This Grimm elicits the same presence. Cunning, precise, lethal, swift and sudden. An apex predator that enjoys the thrill of the hunt and slaughtering anyone that stands in its way. Simply amazing!
I love the grimm designs you do so much. They really do add so much more of a threat factor and outside of a Silver Eye Deus Ex Machina, I can see them being a major problem even with a fully fledged huntsmen/huntress team. Got to feel sorry for those people who aren't as skilled or able to fight back against the grimm though.
"deus ex machina?"
dude...ruby barely uses her silver eyes...
and yet you are all over her rarely used ability as an excuse to hate
They are a village militia with only swords, bows and arrows and suits of armor to fend off bandits but not Grimm unfortunately.

The way you build suspense is fantastic especially with how focus more on sound design.
AAHHH!! I love this!! Your designs for the creatures are amazing and are a lot better than most of the grim in the show! I love that you actually show the deaths of the people rather than make it all of screen unless they're killed by another person. I feel like in the show the grim don't feel like much of a threat because we never actually see them kill anyone really. I do wish we could've seen a little blood but I can understand how it wouldn't be easy to do especially in a 3d program. I can't wait to see more of your animations!!

The coldest fucking Grimm I’ve ever seen, that last scene where it just casually walks up and snaps soldier boys neck, that monster knows the type of despair it inflicts and enjoys it, bravo
I wish RWBY was more horror oriented like this when Grimm show up, cuz there could be some absolutely terrifying Grimm in the show. Sadly, it feels like RT doesn't really care about Grimm anymore, besides being canon fodder.

Incredible, an atmospheric and horror toned short that illustrates the dangers towns without Huntsmen would face. My only real complaint is that some of these guys should have guns, and I'd liked to see a few semblances, but otherwise, this was pretty damn good.
I suppose the best place to put this on the timeline is before the advent of firearms in Remnant, that would make the most sense to me.
It looks super ancient anyway
Don't most non hunters have a locked semblance
Holly crap! This was brutal. Awesome job! And that was a terrifying Grimm terrorizing the villagers one after another and how they’re powerless to do anything. Imagine one that feeds off blood

2:00 this part is just smooth and just perfect in my eyes, and i love it
This was honestly chilling, no background music, nothing but the suspense and pure terror of this creature instills into it's prey, plus it has the "not every fight ends in victory" theme and I just LOVE ALL OF THIS!
Jesus Chris dude the look of the creature plus the music and the background and the way the characters act all terrified it just nails home the true danger and horror that the grim represents. Love it can't wait to see more.
Dude you have gotten a million times better in the last 4 years. I don’t think I could find any flaws in this animation, other than it might have been to quite, but I don’t know.
All in all, I loved it and keep up the great work.
That ending kill was pretty bone chillingly well done. Simple, effective and definitely had a lot of personality in it. This Grimm is on a whole different dangerous level. Great job with the animation.
These Grimm designs are so cool. Looking forward to future projects.
I always thought that the Grimm never seemed like actual threats in the show, with a few stand out exceptions.
But it always sat with me that these things are talked up to be super scary, and yet we hardly ever see that side to them. They're mostly just cannon fodder for the heroes.
This animation expresses something that I've always wanted to see, an actually scary Grimm. Kudos man.
See, this is how pants-wettingly terrifying the Grimm *should* have been in the actual show, given how big a game everyone talks them up to be. Instead, aside from the Hunter, the Nukalavee, and the Apathy, the rest seem to be generic evil canon fodder foot soldiers right up there with Stormtroopers and zombie hordes. Intimidating due to sheer weight of numbers, but not much else.
we do get a quite warped perspective given we have hero grade characters but

Great work again! If it had a criticism, isn’t be that the Grimm’s spinning feels just a little too slow. Varying the speed would do wonders for impact
Now this.....this is a Grimm! This thing puts the Nucklavee to shame without breaking a sweat. The way it spins its entire body around to become a spinning pendulum of death not only to cut apart everything, but also for mobility and to deflect incoming projectiles, really sells this Grimm as both a powerful and terrifying threat that has clearly mastered its natural biological functions to effortlessly wipe out entire groups of even well-armed and well-trained humans. This Grimm has shown itself to be a bigger threat in these 3 short minutes alone than literally every single Grimm after Volume 1 has in over 7-8 years. An awesome Grimm like this is something the show proper desperately needs. You did a masterful job Rax! I look forward to seeing even more cool Grimm like this!
Gosh, I've been waiting for RWBY episodes that actually shows something like this. Great job!
Also, perhaps you can make video of an elder Grimm slaughtering huntsmen and huntresses sent to exterminate it next?
Bruh, that would be so dope, seeing veterans huntsmen/huntresses getting their asses handed to them by an ancient Grimm, which would have gone so well with what Dr. Oobleck said about "the older a grimm is, the smarter and stronger it is".
Holy shit that maybe one of the most terrifying grimm that I have ever seen
Raxacory you are without a doubt one of the best animators and RWBY content creators out there.
You do so many things right the show just can't. You make the Grimm be an actual threat with interesting designs, and make it clear how out of their league humanity is. You do horror and suspense really well, and I didn't even realize it was a single Grimm destroying this town until almost halfway through. The setting is amazing too, this big town with walled-in paths and fog that you can't see far in make it a great horror set.
There's so much going on and the fact that everyone in the comments is theorizing about the Grimm and have actually gotten details about your take on Remnant through this video with no dialogue is a clear sign that you are doing amazing. Your work is greatly appreciated, and I hope you enjoy making it.
Wow that was terrifying I love how you made the Grimm more terrifying and more of a threat compared to the show in the past. It also shows that without huntsman training people outside of the kingdom have no chance against the Grimm.
this is the most beautiful grimm ive ever seen.
the horror, how it fights, brutality and design 😍 its just breathtaking
your grim design is impeccable, it's just amazing the sense of dread you build and the creative body and ability of it. Just chefs kiss
I just don’t have words. Everything is so good. Grimm design, making every soldier feel a little different, the fighting, the world, the camera work… ugh. You just keep getting so much better.
These grimm monsters made Ridley look like a fluffy kitten.
You deserve so much more attention for this stuff. That's an ingenious grimm design.
You know, it’s nice seeing actual deaths in a RWBY, even in fan made stuff, my favorite being when he ripped that person in half. I especially like the grimm being scary and competent.
Incredible omg. What a Grimm! All the lives it took, insane!! 😳
I can't wait to see what you come up with in the future.
I love how you can tell the Grimm enjoys the hunt.. savouring the fear.. genuinely intimidating and very fun! Could’ve been a bit more intense in some places- the silence was chilling, but maybe some music could help punctuate the silent moments and add tension to make the viewers heart race like the soldier’s feel too
This new Rotation Grimm is like General Grievous from Star wars and the knights are the Clones/Jedis he ends up slicing and dicing
Bro, you don't disappoint. Keep it up! You're killing it!
DIS MAN IS A LEGEND. DO U HEAR ME?
AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND
This definitely does the Grimm justice, rather than what main RWBY shows. I get that the girls are trained specially to slay Grimm, but they make them seem more like fodder than actual monsters at most times.
HOLY SHIT THAT MONSTER IS SO SMOOTH
Yoooooo! That was SIIIIICK! Awesome work! This definitely feels like canon for before Dust and Huntsman were a thing.
"Why kill those people?"
Rax:
"Haha World Building lol"
I loove the atmosphere! The grimm showing up in the background at the beginning, oof that was tense! Well done!!
I thought the Grimm was about to let him live like “no one will believe you”
Well. That was interesting. I mean really I do like the concept and the grim design. However, there's one thing that's a bit of a pet peeve of mine. It is that the armor those people were wearing... Yeah, I'm not a fan, but I could see that they might have taken some inspiration from "Lobster armor" from Germany in WW1. Other than that, it's fantastic. It's great to show the people trying to defend their homes against the grimms without a kingdom or huntsman to protect them.
WORLD BUILDING!? This sounds like blasphemy! And I approve!
Jokes aside you make the most interesting Grimm designs. I question how much it costs to get a gun though cause not even Ren's dad had a gun and I think the village was based around rich people or well off people wasn't it?
Presumably easier the closer you are to major cities, but even there most civilians dont seem to be armed. Guns dont even seem all that common for people to own, melee weapons dominate.
Judging by the centaur thing, lots of hunters used bows
If you were in charge of reimagining Rwby from the story to characters I would give you everything I own to see it happen
This looks like a good prequel to RWBY before Gun tech was invented for Dust, this basically would be Remnant pre-north exploration, most likely.
I like how your creatures of Grimm are more scary and nightmare inducing
I love the design of the grimm! It was wicked seeing that grimm lurk around and kill.
I can tell this grimm is way smarter.
I mean that grimm literally play with the knight
That Grimm was like a movie killer.
The Knucklave: I am the scariest Grimm!
The Apathy: No I am!
The "Culling" Grimm: ....Amateurs.
Poor Soldiers: fighting tooth-and-nail for their lives
The Grimm: LET'S BEYBLADE~!
Time to let it rip!!!
Tfw you remember that humans are low-key an endangered species in RWBY when compared to the real world
BRO THIS LEVEL OF CHOREOGRAPHY!!!! DAMN I MISS MONTYYYYY I CAN SEE HIM IN YOUUUUUUU.!!!!
Finally! It's so nice to see the Grimm being a legitimate threat, one which people flat out are unable to handle. Keep it up, this is some great stuff!
Long ago, there were Hunters but they won’t one for humanity/fanuskind. Those Hunters while a few and far between rarely seen by most folks of that time, but one and only one were able to decimate an entire small town. Barely anyone survived them, and anyone that do were left defenseless to any Grimm or bandits nearby. They were called Mors Canis-Ventaores or simply Death Hound-Hunters.

That Grimm took the name and owned it. And honestly, I don't blame that guy for being scared stiff. That entire situation just seemed hopeless. Great animation.
That should actually be a Grimm that was terrifying

this is amazing I think the running animation COULD use a little work, overall, I think it is fantastic
Wow the Grimm really general grievoused that poor person at 2:12
Magnificent! I really like the gore and brutally it shows how powerful the grim really is.
The one thing I like the most is despite it's ease at killing all the soldiers, it doesn't look like a Grimm just upping the stakes. It's comparatively small for a Grimm and lacks any real armor, but makes up for it with increased intelligence and being a mockery of huntsmen fighting styles. A fight could go either way depending on what it faces, and I like that about it. Though frankly this can all be said for most of your Grimm, which is cool.
That was horrifying...
I love it.
The design of this Grimm is awesome
How I told my friends with same interest about Raxacory's new upload
"Do u remember this guy?
He made the DARK Rwby short.
The horror one in which the grim breaks the girls legs(shivers on remembering that)"
This is amazing!! The animation was so smooth! 💖💖💖
Loving the clear inspiration of general grievous vs the Jedi on hypori from the old clone wars
The spinning arms, the eerie silence, the leg crush, the way he killed the three guards clumped together
This whole short was just phenomenal
I really enjoy the kinds of Grimm that seem way to intelligent than they should be, enough so that it's comparable to-or even surpasses-a human's intelligence.
This Grimm seems to toy with it's victims. It understands the humans can't significantly hurt it, but it still takes it's sweet time to walk over there as they're firing arrows at it instead of rushing in like some kind of wild, untamed beast and slaughtering them without remorse. The way it walks past the last knight left, holding his head in it's claws, and it spins around him to stand behind him before killing him? This thing is sadistic.
Hell, even the name makes me think of how smart it is. "Culling" implies it's killing the humans off systematically & selectively to make room for newer, younger livestock, like how a shepherd culls their flock of sheep for meat and wool, and to make room for younger lambs to grow and then be slaughtered later on.
All of this screams at how intelligent and sadistic this thing is, and that kind of Grimm is the only one that *genuinely* terrifies me.
that one shot *muah* chefs kiss, the symbolism and the cool shots, easily out preformed many of the action scene in the actual show
