Here's is something very important I want you to know.
Our culture (modernized culture, mostly Western culture) trains us to be disconnected from our bodies. Our culture trains us to view our bodies as external objects as an outside observer. Our culture trains to look to outside experts to fix us, fix our body issues but doesn't train us to connect with our own body, own sensory experience, "listen" to our body, feel our body, and learn from our inner intelligence.
This is cultural influence on our beliefs influences our behaviors. Many people believe that they need more information in order to overcome their limitations and challenges. Many believe that they just haven't found the "right" information yet so keep seeking outside for their answer. Reality is that we have too much information, and we are so disconnected from our own body and experience.
It's easy to view my videos as another exercise video, and approach it from that mindset, that is to approach your body like fixing mechanical parts that lie external to you. Then, you are really missing the point. This is not a conventional way of thinking in Western culture, so it's easy to let my message pass through you. But, don't worry! I am persistent and will repeat over and over and over:) I'm not here to teach you exercises to correct your body structures. I am here to help you connect with YOUR BODY, YOUR SENSORY EXPERIENCE, learn from YOUR BODY, and create a new way of movng, using yourself, being in your body!
This paradigm shift is necessary for transformation, changes in your nervous system, movement patterns, quality of life because your body and mind are one! I really encourage you to keep this message in your mind as you watch my videos and practice movement!
Just the "before and after" picture in the thumbnail helped me! lol :D
These exercises seem so much more logical to me and my 69 year old back! I’ve never been able to sit up without pain and straining. I can’t hold myself in that straighter position. Thank you for sharing these with us.
As a Feldenkrais practitioner, I don't believe in "fixing" bodies. I believe in one's intelligent nervous system that is capable of learning and adapting.
One of misunderstanding about "fixing" forward head posture is that people only look at the head and neck and they try to correct the position. It is important to understand that "head and neck start at hips", meaning that head is connected to the spine (neck, mid and lower back) and pelvis/hips. It is also important to understand that "fixing" forward head posture requires re-training your movement patterns and create a new relationship between head, torso, and pelvis/hips. So "fixing" your posture really means improving your movement.
In this video I share 3 movement training/exercises that will help you become aware of those connections and retrain your movement patterns to "fix" forward head posture.

Exercise 2 07:19

@@gonzalollache7306 Thanks for leaving the comment. Can you give me a few specific contexts in regards to anterior pelvic tilts?

I'm sure your videos are great and I wouldn't question their worth for most viewers but I hate them. I hate all the slow explanations (and you are hard to hear and understand for my eyes) and I just want to see the exercises or postures or stretches or whatever. If they were on first all at once that would be great and then continue all the talk for everyone else. Believe me I am an analytical person just want short analytics. Others with demonstration videos are on the same page as you but they don't go on as long.

Thank you. That is a great idea!
Thank you
Thanks Neo cheers
Thanks
I can barely hear this video. What's wrong with the sound?
I have straight spine now after 50 years hunching, thank you, should have watched this 50 years ago and saved 50 k on physio fees
Sounds like I need to hire you to promote me :)
You're welcome , happy to spread the good news, keep up presenting great solutions, help heal the world. Good on you!
I get what you mean but he wasn't born and even computers were barely a thing 50yrs ago...... Sorry, couldn't help myself
You are a legend brother, well done!!!
These are powerful little movements. I’ve always found it difficult to sit at a 90* angle without feeling sore and tired. Thank you.
As I held the position at the top with my arm, I noticed on one arm, it was the right front delt causing the issue, and the left rear delt and the knots had seem to let go and no pain after a week or so...props to you, Taro! This is remarkable.
I felt a change immediately after doing these exercises. I've extensively tried mckenzie chin tucks and neck stretches but this is definitely the superior solution. Truly appreciate you making this video!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for creating your videos. I have been doing these exercises for 2 weeks. I took a side profile picture on day 1 and day 2. My head is now 1.5” back from where it was on day 1!! I plan to keep these as part of a daily routine. Thank you!!!
Great video!
I have been in so much pain for years. Decade! I have this posture. And curvature of spine. TY for the exercises. Sincerely! I have tried them. Can’t move very much. But it felt like blood rushed into my arms and back. So it did something! I cannot thank you enough. Will be doing these religiously!
WOWZER!!! Thanks Again!
Feels so good🙏
Very interesting! Thank you. Makes sense.
Thank you thank you thank you !
I can really feel the difference. Thanks for this & all of your videos!
I am so happy to have found your channel! I like this Feldenkrais approach. Thanks for helping fix lifelong problems.
This is GOLD! Thank you for this video, it gives so much relief, and great to have a strategy now to undo and prevent it!
I learn so much from you.
SUPERB!!! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much!! Your exercises are really helpful! I felt the difference right away in my neck when I am doing the right posture, starting from my pelvic area!
Hello! Thank you for your educational videos!
I am grateful for your videos!. Keep it up! I am now free of back pain!
Thank you for this , this has been really educational & beneficial for me. I’m now aware of my posture and how my sitting posturing affects painful my neck and back area aches. You are a gem & I could listen to you all day 🤲🏼
Thank you, very helpful.
Thankyou!
Great job!
LISTEN.. I needed this for a couple of reasons. Years of bad posture and two car accidents in one month. My back hurts!! I can feel a difference Just doing the movements along with him ! I’m definitely going to rotate this I’m my program. Thank you
Do you have any idea how many physios I went to that said my hips had nothing to do with my neck or head? All they work on is the neck and shoulders. Now I know what muscles I actually need to work on. I can feel the difference. Your whole approach is logical, especially when I knew my hips were involved. Sometimes I think physios make you worse on purpose so you keep going back and they make more money. If your videos actually fix my problems I will be happy to pay you something. I'll keep at it for a full month and see how it goes.
i am sorry you havent had positive experience with your physio. it makes sense to look at whole body and how one part relates to the others.
Wow really? The first thing we learn is, that everything is connected in the body. Every change of tension has consequences
Yes yes yes. Also I love the Upright Health youtube channel.
Love how clearly you explain the condition and the exercises. 🙏🏻
Hahaha! PTs make less money than they did 30 years ago despite being doctors. Insurance companies force them to treat joint by joint. Only brave PTs set out their own shingle to be able to treat while body. Every year more money is cut and salaries go down and patient flow goes up. Hope I never see you with any physical issues…looking for in network care.
Wonderful - thank you.
These exercises are so helpful. At first I couldn’t do the third exercise when I tried it a few weeks ago, but since practicing moving the sternum up and down now I can, and I’ve noticed my back of neck pain improving. TY for sharing 😊
Great stuff. Summary of three exercises 15:20
Do people really not have the attention span or the interest to learn more about why and how exercises work?

Pure Gold, much appreciate you!
my pleasure!
Thanks, great video that is helpful to my old back and neck.
Amazing! Instantly works... and again, like all the other videos I have watched of yours easy to do, no pain. I had focused on head, neck and shoulders... which did not work as you know. Reminding myself to do just one thing which is to shift the pelvis forward totally created the alignment in the upper body! Lol... how simple! Finally after years of physical therapy, tons of chiropractors and tons of videos trying to find what would work; I found your videos!
Thank you so much for all these video’s. Your video’s are very clear about how to adapt Feldenkrais in daily life. I wish I had discovered them earlier and had not waited until I had so much pain in my shoulder. I have followed Feldenkrais lessons many years ago and I have several books and CD’s with Feldenkrais lessons. Feldenkrais has helped me several times, but In the last years I have only practised it now and then. So I am very happy to have found your channel. It is difficult to know where to start now, as I understand now that I have to change a lot of habits to practise it in daily life.
wow so so helpful thank you! Everyone should know this 🙌
This was immediately helpful, especially the thoracic spine extending and strengthening exercise (3rd). Thank you so much!
Dude, this one video is solid gold. I have parts of myself that have been "asleep" for several decades now after a car accident. After practicing MA (including internals like Systema and Taijiquan) for years, I've know these parts to be asleep but couldn't figure out how to wake them up. I know Moshe was originally a martial artist also, no? What incredible intelligent design his system of concious movement is. Thank you for your contribution, Taro.
you are welcome! Yes Moshe practiced Judo
great explanations. Thabksa lot
New subscriber here. Just binged watched a few of your videos, which focus on posture and neck/shoulder tension. Game changers. Watching your explanations and demos somehow just made everything click for me, versus just me constantly telling myself to sit up straight every time I catch myself slouching/hunching. I think being aware and understanding the mechanics of your body parts and how their movements are connected (as you mentioned the kinetic chain) really helps!! I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel!! Thank you and look forward to more quality content! Keep up the great work! :)

Omg this one is the one that’ll make all the others possible ❤ thanks
This is really helpful
Thank you … you are amazing. I have had intermittent neck, back, hip, thoracic pain over the last twenty years (I’m 65). I also have forward head posture.
I am going to start doing your exercises. You and your teachings are wonderful . It all makes sense. I’ve done many self help programs over the years ( somatics, Ecosque, etc) but nothing seems to help me get out of permanent pain. Hoping this works for me. Thank you
Thank you
Thank you so much. Great exercises.

This is amazing
Ive had 3 open chest heart surgeries since 2003. After each surgery ive had trouble keeping my head straight. I can use these exercises & am going to start today. These movements should be part of cardiac rehab because i think every heart surgery patient has this problem. Thank you so much!
Good stuff! Thank you Taro
Thanks!
I have TOS and this helps a lot, i can feel relief down my arm. Thank you
Thank you for a great video and for wonderful tips. How to see you soon.
Thank you! Lots more videos are on their way! Stay tuned!
All of the exercises you have shown I can definitely feel. I am in bad shape, “a mess” my doctor said. I am almost 67 and have severe kyphosis, scoliosis, and spinal stenosis from cervical to lumbar. I know how much more pain I will be in tomorrow but I am willing to try working with you. I have tried working on my forward head posture and holding my shoulders back for a long time and I just keep migraine headaches.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your support!
Your Amazing. So happy I found your channel. I subbed
Been working on my posture earlier today and I’m so glad I came across this video now. These exercises really made me aware of my spine in new ways. Very grateful!
You are very welcome! Improving posture comes from improving whole body connection.
Thank you, Taro for Your work! I really appreciate your videos and your amazing teaching about this whole-body intelligence. After a few days of different exercises, I already feel more aligned, and my understanding about correct ways of using my body starts to show up even when I'm not trying to intentionally do so. This is amazing!
Thats great!!
Your exercices are simply the best! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much, this is wonderful and you explain how to do these exercises so thoroughly. I’m now an addict to your channel. ❤
You're so welcome!
What a wonderful teachings ….!!!!
All others experts gave us the wrong and useless advisees to correct our hunchback posture that we can’t
remember for long it does not help….
But your teachings are quite deferent
To rearrange the muscles to a correct
Posture …. Thanks so much…
You are a great teacher….!!!!!
Such fantastic information, so helpful! Thank you! :)
You're so welcome!
Wow.i felt pain in the total opposite direction. My neck hurts and my right shoulder is stiff since years. I felt pain in the left side of my waist in my back... after the 2nd and 3rd exercise, wow... As if someone has restarted my systems. Big thank you!! 😍 I'll definitely try more of these.
I love your work, your way and your words. I am trying to re-find awareness, retrain movement patterns and strengthen muscles I let myself deteriorate after a lifetime as a modern dancer/teacher using many modalities including Feldenkrais! I was lucky to be in a weekend workshop with HIM in Chicago in about 1978!! I had a signed copy of Awareness Through Movement until a horrible flood 2 yrs ago. You are giving me hope again even though I am 66 and life has changed so much. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your story! We all have the ability to learn and grow for a lifetime, so I'm glad you're re-finding awareneness, re-connecting with yourself!
I definitely feel the muscles activating while doing these movements. Thank you, Taro. I hope to initiate new posture.
You are welcome:)
An excellent teaching thank you Taro x you are always an inspiration
thank you!!
Another great video. I'm going to do these exercises every day for the next month and see what happens 🙂🙂
Thank u 🙏
This is GREAT! And thank you for taking time to summarize your 3 “exercises”!
You are welcome! Which exercise did you find most helpful?
I guess it was the one Re lengthening your neck-aw shucks, ALL of it I benefit from.
I stumbled upon your videos so I am new to them and want to thank you for making them to help people. I will definitely give the exercises in these videos a try since I have terrible posture with forward head posture and even that ugly hunchback bulge and I believe it contributes with on set migraines sometimes almost daily! I really need to correct these issues so that maybe I can eventually lessens this annoying migraine condition since I also suffer from light sensitivity which unfortunately also contributes to them 😔
Awesome video. It really helps. Are there videos for tight knees?
Thank you so much! Your insight is unique! I've watched loads of videos about correcting bad posture and I've done lots of exercises. Nothing is as helpful as your videos.
you are welcome. glad you find my videos helpful
I love this guy
I found this helpful. TY. I adjusted on the left side where my ribs are close together by extending my left arm in various positions. Did some reps w/ bent elbow as shown. Pops in elbow and shoulder, left side.
I'm going to try this after work
👏👏👏 Soo helpful
glad to hear it!
Great content.
I especially appreciate that you linked timestamps for the specific exercises. It's a time-saver!
Keep up the great work.
Great how clearly you explain the condition and the exercises. Thank you 🙏🏻
thank you!
Thanks for this! I really like the third exercise, it’s one of the best ways I’ve seen to activate my lower traps and practice thoracic extension.
Thank you. plus it is very specific to a common postural type who needs to stabilize lower back and mobilize thoracic extension at the same time.
Many thanks for these suggestions. Could you sometime extend this to clues to awareness of this in standing?
Amazing, i will definitly try these excercises! Thank you
you are welcome. let me know how it goes.
@@TaroIwamoto for sure! Its already going quite well. After just one session of doing these exercises i can already notice some improvements. Needless to say this derserves my full commitment so ill keep on it!
Thanks, I'm glad I found these exercises. When I did the first one, it seemed to clear congestion from my lungs!
Wonderful!
Your channel is brilliant buddy
thank you!
The exercises are very effective and easy. Thank you for the help 🙏
I want to personally thank you and I hope you see this.
I’m already having life changes from your exercise. My father has bad arthritis that he started taking steroids for at 35. I’m 28 now and spend almost my whole day sitting working on code or 3D design.
Literally just did exercise #3 here and felt the muscles between my shoulder blades working again. For sure I felt the overextension you warned about and just wow thank you. I’m going to be putting your exercises into a regiment for myself. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience! I appreciate it!
Very helpful corrective for years of slumping over screen or paper…
There’s such a difference moving the hips to straighten the back. Thanks so much
yes there's a big difference!

Fantastic! It feels like I just relieved a point T12 with this exercise. Seems like I have so much going on ..such a mess!😎 However, I am going to add this in the beginning of my routine 2x daily and see if I can reverse my stucture challenges. Thank you.

I just found your channel, you are truly a godsend. I am a nurse and have worked almost everyday for the past 30 years. I have so many aches and pains in my back and neck and my posture is getting worse. Thank you so much for sharing your much needed knowledge.
Thank you what you do. Many nurses are under paid and quiet heroes.
@@jmc8076 Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment 😊❤️
Really helpful! I did these exercises once now and already feel a big difference 👏
One question: With the first and second exercise, when turning the pelvis, I cannot do that smoothly as it feels like at some point in the movement my stiff sitting muscles one after the other "jump" over the sitting bone. Does that make sense? Is it because of tense muscles? And do I need to loosen them using a separate exercise, or will this get better over time repeating the exercises above? Thank you so much for your work!!
I love your videos - but the volume could be better. Some of it is loud, and other is too quiet.
I've had several accidents in the past two years, and I developed a hunchback i never had before. It's so fixed that I can't even move into a straight-back posture. Is it possible to fix if I do these exercises daily? So happy I found this channel!
Wonderful! Why you dont have a billion subscribers is a mystery to me.
thank you!
Agree
Hmm you’re life must be quite puzzling. This dude is great though
Do you have any tips for good habits when using a computer so we don't hunch over because we adapt the body to the environment, eg. when working on a laptop?
