  • Adrenal gland is a gland located just above the kidney. It produces three hormones, namely cortisol, aldosterone and little amount of sex hormone. When the adrenal gland does not produce these hormones - cortisol, aldosterone and sex hormone, it is called adrenal failure.
    Symptoms of adrenal failure are:
Extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and darkening of the skin.
Normally you get hyperpigmentation at specific sites like oral mucosa, and also inner part of hands and feet . If you have undergone a surgery, the scar will get hyperpigmented.
It takes some time, around 3-4 months, for the symptoms to appear. It is a slowly progressing condition.
Patients with adrenal failure, also present with symptoms like salt craving, postural hypotension, dizziness etc. In children also it presents with nausea, vomiting and some amount of growth retardation.
