Agreed, Title had me worried we'd find out Rick is a scumbag. Glad to see how genuine he is with people. Also found his thoughts on the taller shelves pretty interesting.
man i wish there was a game store like this near where i live. the closest game store is a tiny gamestop 20 minutes away and it smells like the combination of the panda express on the other side of the wall and new paint
@@k.gressel4536are you sure there isn't? I have 1 a mile from my house and didn't know it until like 2 months ago. They even have a website it's called TheBasementBossier and then the standard stuff to finish the link.
You'd be surprised, stores like this are a lot more common than you'd think. I have one near me that I frequent and I don't really know anyone who knows about it except people I've shown. I'd say try searching for one on Google maps or something
Twas very strange making a video WITH someone else lol. I've been making videos for a long time now, but this was like my 2nd time ever being on camera with someone else. Definitely a different vibe
That is an awesome store. It even had one of those arcade machines with tons of different games to play. When my Uncle was around he had no problem digging deep into his pocket for that. God love that man.
As someone who works at a used game / vintage media store. We are also having to debate keeping new games in stock. Our profit margins are not quite as disastrous as this store. But often we're paying $42-$55 from a vendor for a $60 or $70 game. It's also pretty bad for other new media, but video games are crazy... Used games really are the money maker. Very cool store that I would love to visit when I'm back in the area!
But there is no logic in the pandemic doing this to the prices.. its the same bullcrap story we tell each other over and over. Yes the prices went up I know.
@jimmyjones6086 I mean the data is all there thanks to price charting. People had much more disposable income and free time back in 2020 and resellers took advantage of it.
Ricks store is amazing. Drove 7 hrs in July just to go. That Kirby Super Stars in the grail case. I'm pretty sure I traded in. Rick and his staff are very nice. Really hope I can go back sometime.
we have a local store in Bend, Oregon and I had a long conversation with him about how people try to sell him “like new” games for near full price, like $50-60. How do they expect a store to profit off of that? I sold him my first party Nintendo games all for 20/30 a pop. People gotta make money!
I just started watching Rick. Rick seems like 100% straight foward, transparent. He genuinely seems so excited still about all the things he has. I feel like his store is way more than a million in value... if the inventory alone is 800k. He has a crazy amount of extraordinary items. If someone walked in there and offered him 2 million for the whole store, think he would do it?
No, from what Rick has stated the store doesn't turn a large profit but it makes him happy and thus is worth the time he spends on it. Can't really put a price tag on something like that.
Really nice Retro Game Store, the retro game store I usually go to is kinda like this one but much smaller and has less variety of games, but I love going there just to see the old consoles on display and also the games available for it, the vibe is totally different than going to a modern game store.
I live in sweden so its a bit to far but his store makes me happy. The look and feel of the store is amazing, if I travel to US then Ricks store is one of my goals to visit!
Man that TG-16in the box brought me back, paid $99 for mine in 1991 with Keith Courage packed in and Bonks Revenge loose as a free gift at Toy-R-US. Toy-R-Us was liquidated them from lack of sales but loved the console, bastards quit selling the games a few years later and was the only department store that sold them.
Wow, in Michigan in the 90s the Ronald on the bench was outside of every restaurant. My sister and I in the winter would sometimes make him a hat or a little snow man buddy for him.
Surprised Retro Rick has never seen that nyko airflow controller on the xbox before absolutely loved that as a kid no more sweaty palms while youre staying up all night
Sega Genesis is indeed the slowest for us as well and has been for years - PS4 and Xbox One are poor sellers as well due to increasing downloading gamers doing downloads more and more every day - we have been in the business in Pa for 23 years and seen a lot of changes. but retro will forever be the popular stuff
Literally the first video Rick posted when he bought the store I commented and said he should paint the air ducts green like Mario pipes and it took him a year to pay a designer to suggest it to him. 🤦
I made the mistake of going by my local vintage game shop. I bought a Nintendo NES a couple of days later 😂. And then one of the generic systems that plays 95% of all NES games. They pop in the top like a Super NES and the controllers are round like SNES controllers. It works great. I use it instead of the NES since it's new and it actually works. NES was $110. GNES(Generic NES) was $20! 20 FREAKING DOLLARS! 👌
I think that what's driving the prices of some game higher than they should are either false bidding in eBay or foreigners with money to burn (like some Brazilian collectors). In Brazil we had a collector assuming that when he had the money there wasn't a hard limit on the price he would pay to get some items, specially SEGA ones, so he would always outbid North Americans on said items.
As someone who did not grow up in a area with a lot of game stores I like seeing stuff like this but it makes me wish these were in my area as I don't have anything like this in my area let alone a game store besides GameStop and the only other one that ever showed up was a Play n Trade and that location ended up shutting down eventually that's why when I was a kid I only ever got games from GameStop and sometimes Walmart.
Shoplifters. This is why Rick doesn't want higher shelves obviously. He's just good at bending the truth. Think about it. Keep an eye everywhere in the store as people shop.
BRO! Growing up my uncle had that OG Xbox controller with the fan! It was always my favorite controller idk why it didn't become more mainstream. I wonder if he still owns it?

To my best knowledge that Phoenix doesn't really get along with him at all. Thats what Ive been told.

If no one is buying a $100 game for a $100, maybe its not a $100 game?
Xbox 360 was all hype around the store closing. Not surprised the games aren't moving now after paying too much.
My biggest thing with Retro Ricks game Store is that it does feel more like Retro Ricks game room sometimes vs a Store.
I would love to have a game store like where I live that doesn’t have half the store full of Funko pops
16:15 oh yeah 10 dollars 😂😂😂 seriously I’m turning this off now I can’t listen to this crap

Retro ricks game point! Only place in the world you can pay 34.99 for a game that's worth 20. Love that game store!
Exactly. Bullshit mark ups
The giant nes controller was really cool.
Who else noticed the street sharks in the office above the whiteboard? Almost out of sight! Those were so cool

Rick is the best. Super humble and kind. And now really informed on business.
Love every detail around the store, looks like a retro game store I would spend hours in.
why did rick have a microphone on his shirt as you entered, kinda suspicious...
(this was a joke comment but take it seriously i guess)
he films daily videos in the store i think, that may be why
How is that suspicious? Youre a dork
Might be a stretch, but I’m taking a guess it’s because they’re filming a video
It was literally a private tour of the store. Obviously they set stuff up before hand
I hope this isn't a serious comment. Lol
Rick seems like a real cool dude. Great video Jacob.
this is great. I feel like we’re seeing a side of Rick that he doesn’t show in his own or his friends videos. Super chill.
Man i have zero idea how retro stuff became so expensive, in 2010 as a broke kid, i got ps2, ds lite and plenty of cheap used games, the heck happened
It's mainly the pandemic that caused everything to spike
The pandemic is what raised the price of most of the hobbies.
But there is no logic in the pandemic doing this to the prices.. its the same bullcrap story we tell each other over and over. Yes the prices went up I know.
