UK under ‘existential threat’ of ‘major’ war as British Army chief pushes for conscription

  • “State on state conflict in Europe in the 21st century which seemed inconceivable a few years ago now looks really quite possible.”
The call by General Sir Patrick Sanders for national military training of civilians has provoked people to “think the unthinkable” about the threat of a “major European war”, says former British army commander Charlie Herbert.

I was born 2 years after WW2, and I have seen many other conflicts in my lifetime. I have also seen how badly all the different governments have treated our brave young men and women over that period who put their lives on the line. The present government, and I
suspect future governments treat the true BRITISH people with utter contempt. If they think todays and future generations will agree to be canon fodder, they are in for a big surprise, and I dont blame them one bit

Awful though it was, ww1 and ww2 led to a period of improved living standards and rights for the working class. We are however, seeing those improved standards and rights being eroded. Social housing, nhs, public transport, public services and utilities.
Now we have dog whistling regarding conscription due to our continued aiding a country we have no military alliance with, which is leading to increased tensions and the likelihood of the conflict spreading!
      Future heroes need:
      1. a decent wage
2, a land fit for them. IMO, neither is in place at his time!
I would urge the retiring army chief to review the and curtail all the m o d vanity projects to fund the increase in recruitment.

My Father fought in the second world War. I was born 70 years ago and there has never been n a year of my life when there wasn't a conflict or war if some sort in the world. My dad reckoned that wars were an essential part of culling the populations of the world. Imagine how many people would be here now if there hadn't been any wars. Britain has enjoyed peace more or less all my life ,there hasn't been a world conflict for 80 years. Something had to be done to get rid of a few people. Covid? I wondered about that. But, maybe it wasn't enough. So the big wigs are planting the thought of a world War are they?. That will trim the population once again......

I served from 1971 to 1995 in the Army. If I had my time again I would not join. I am a 68 year old white man who loved his country but the woke brigade can defend themselves and their friends from abroad. Most soldiers were from working class backgrounds seeking opportunity but thanks to poor political decisions, greedy lawyers and woke revision of our history what country is there left to defend. Any invading force would only have to treat the indigenous population decently and they would win. In my time the forces had bulk to counter losses from enemy action but when we got involved with Afghanistan and Iraq we bled our Army to death. Promises were always being made and promises were ALWAYS being broken. A country that can not control its borders is not a sovereign nation. I suspect this a red herring and is a precursor to a European Army!

Russia, North Korea, China and the Middled East have all been instigators of conflict and hostilities over the years. The West have responded to attacks i.e. 9/11 - Afghanistan. Iraq the big question mark of course. Otherwise the west involved in conflicts across the World i.e. Libya, bombing targeted Houthis areas in Yemen have been justified to name but a few. Maybe you need to turn this around and ask the Russians, North Koreans, Chinese and the Middle Eastern countries to behave themselves and then the West does not need to be on high alert.
