Thank you. I ran a gambit through different sounds and genres. Though I had heard a lot of their music, the younger me didn't latch on to it. Now at 61 yrs I can truly appreciate their technicality for the era. It's like discovering a new band.
Same, this was my ‘go-to’ album for a couple years in the 80s. Cassette in my Clarion deck installed under the dash of my ‘65 Mustang fastback. Those were some good days.
Respectfully disagree. This version of Yes is simply not in the same league as 70s Yes. I love this album, don't get me wrong, but it can't stand up to early Yes.
This album is a MASTERPIECE! It's Yes' best 80's album by far, and is one of those albums you can and should listen to from top to bottom. Just can't say enough good things about it. Great reaction, Jamel! Keep great music alive! 🙏
Drama is my favorite 80's album by far. If we're talking about the Rabin era, I prefer Big Generator, but I still love this album. My ranking of the Rabin era is Big Generator, Talk, 90125, Union. I like some songs on Union, but it's not one I keep going back to. I do go back to the song Miracle of Life a lot though and Lift Me Up as well.
I lived on YES. Triumph, Rush..just takes me back. I graduated in 84. Not everyone appreciated them, but my crew lived for it! Thank you for introducing it all over again.

I saw Yes in Germany 1983 ( ex RAF family ) and they were promoting this album ....... first time listening , seeing them live !!! Partner had the album for months and he couldn't get me interested !!! Two years later at the NEC in Birmingham , I saw original YES and current YES on a revolving stage ..... 8 of them , including Rick Wakeman.... remember his " Journey to the Center of the Earth "? anyone ??? .......hell of a concert , with all of them together !!! 😝😍 Personally , my all time favorite , is " City of Love " .... Chris Squires base is INSANE in that !!!!
This is one of Yes's Masterpiece albums......every song a masterpiece....in 1983 was a time of Punk rock...New Waves music ...and Rap....and Yes didn't compromise the style they improvised their style with Rap lick.....punk rhythm.....deep lyrics that spoke to the human soul in a complicated issues of society which sounds current. By adding the Xylophone.....and cow bell...bluesy guitar lick.....took prog rock another level.....if you like this song ..... listen and react to "Hold On." Deep lyrics and great Ear candy!!!!
A capable stereo setup is essential or you'll miss so much that's in the music. Since Jamel switched over to his Bose headphones, I get a kick out of watching his reaction as his ears and brain take in all the subtle stuff that's happening in the mix on songs such as this one. It happened in the earlier reactions with the old headphones - but not to the extreme that it does now. Puts a huge smile on my face.

I've often seen people sneer at 90125 and later Yes. Snobbery I call that. Both before that and later are, well, Yes, and it shows. I love all Yes, from whenever.
"No one seems to Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare'" - how someone can sing a note for that long and still keep in tune without getting shortness of breath is amazing. Everything about this song is amazing... and so is the album it's on.
I thoroughly enjoy reading all the comments and i do not see hate or profanity, just people of an older age who grew up listening to the fabulous music from the 70’s and 80’s. Very refreshing indeed. I loved the early years of Yes like Starship Trooper but when I was visiting my older brother had sat me down in front of his stereo with headphones and put on this record (LP) and all I felt was positive vibes. You need to give ASIA a listen, more adventures and experiences await you Jamel. Enjoy my friend.

Two words, Trevor Rabin. I'm a long time guitar player and he blows me away, and his voice is as smooth as a baby's ass! (These days I probably shouldn't say that.) I think he really compliments the legendary Jon Anderson. My favorite off an awesome '80s classic album. Great reaction as always, J. 🤘🎸
Yes ! Some Yes ! - I saw this in concert in Cleveland. They had laser holographs and a two drum kit 'int the round' drum set on a rotating platform. My favorite concert of all time.
I saw this show as well... on a day that I; Lost my car, lost my job, and 'took my shot' at a woman I was hopelessly infatuated with - and also, WELL out of my league... ;) It was a Friday - my day started with this song as my wake up alarm on the radio, and that night, I unexpectedly found myself at the concert in Sacramento, watching it LIVE... it was the single most "CHANGE-INTENSIVE" day of my life... I will ALWAYS love this song... :)

This song was originally a Trevor Rabin composition, written in 1981 before he began working on 90125 with Yes. Jon Anderson and Alan White contributed to the revised version of the song that was recorded by Yes. Rabin released a recording of his original version of the song on his solo album 90124. “Changes” received a fair amount of airplay on rock stations, reaching #6 on the US Rock Chart in early 1984.
Saw Yes in concert when this album came out and it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen. They sound even more amazing live! Chris Squire did a bass solo that lasted more than 5 minutes and had the whole crowd basically stunned. And on another note... You are probably the most genuine reactor on CZcams. If you ever get to Tennessee the first round is on me
Trevor Rabin was the guitarist on this album. They have done stuff with both him and Steve Howe since. They did a great concert a year or two ago playing hits from both eras.

i looked and didn't see anywhere you've reacted to either of these songs...and they're some of Yes' best songs...period. "Heart of the Sunrise" (a bass line to leave you speechless) and "Yours is no Disgrace" (a song to leave you speechless). they are both more than worth the listen.

I had come to find out about YES in 1978 as a freshman in high school.… And immediately immersed myself in their entire back catalog. I remember when DRAMA came out and that I thoroughly enjoyed it in spite of the lineup changes.(. Steve Howe and Geoff Downes went on to form ASIA with John Wettin and Karl Palmer (from ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White and YES’ very first keyboard player Tony Kaye got together with South African guitarist Trevor Raven (of Rabbit) got together and began to write music for a new band that they were going to call CINEMA. With that arrangement Trevor was singing all of the lead vocals. Chris Squire invited former lead singer Jon Anderson... to add vocals. After Jon added some vocals everyone decided that the band sounded so much like YES with Jon’s angelic singing, that they changed the name of the band to YES and released 90125 and went out on tour. I was lucky enough to get front row center in Erie Pennsylvania for the opening of the tour with Berlin to open.Before the tour started, Trevor got injured and the Erie concert was moved to a later leg on the tour....When they finally came to Erie… The opening “band” was not a band at all but a showing of a Bugs Bunny cartoon about the waterfall and the mad scientist. Because I had waited so long I was so excited for this show! I had actually talked myself into believing that Trevor Rabin was as good as (if not better than) Steve Howe....An opinion I NO LONGER have… But I remember just being mesmerized. So if these tunes from 90125 sound different… It’s because the band was never going to be YES. Since then… I’ve seen yes 16 times. My only regret is that I did not get to see them in the 70s… But the 80’s, 90s and 2000s have been great for YES so I can’t complain. In 1991 the album “Union” came out which included many former members of the band .. Including their first drummer Bill Bruford of King Crimson, Tony Kay from the early albums... as well as Rick Wakeman on keys, Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin on guitars and of course Chris Squire on bass and Alan White on drums as well. It was a good attempt to get them all together and they were wonderful shows, but that many people in the band was hard for them and after that album tour, the band split into two camps.The concert was in the round for most of the tour… I was second row in Cleveland for that tour and third row in Buffalo for that tour as well. They did do some dates not in the round which is where I saw them in Pittsburgh at the back of the amphitheater. There was another arrangement of the band called Anderson Bruford Wakeman and Howe which was amazing as well. Regardless of the lineup… Yes is amazing and my favorite group of all time

I think the word you ur looking for is " TECHNICAL". one of the greatest bands ever. Seen them live 3 times. I have no words. Excellent. They just draw you in seeing them live.
In an incredible and unusual way, with much joy and nostalgia, those of us who are over 58 years old see reflected in the reactions of these beautiful and young people those feelings that these beautiful works produced in our time. Feelings that did not include surprise, because at that time this was what was expected and demanded. Complexity, beauty and excellence, often due to simple habit or habit. Those musicians offered things that except for a few very few exceptions emulated or continued. Will young people also have fun watching our reaction to some more modern or current compositions?

1980s Yes is distinctly different from 70’s Yes, slightly different lineup, best stuff is earlier, checkout “ yours is no disgrace” or “starship troopers”
You might enjoy the performance of YES, at their induction ceremony in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Since their bassist Chris Squire had passed, Geddy Lee from Rush stepped in to help them. It was pretty cool!
Jamel, I’m so happy and proud to see younger generations like you embrace such amazing music like this. Without you and others like you, music this expressive and experimental and nowadays not well known *would* be gone. My parents brought me up on Yes and Rush and Alan Parsons Project and I get so dejected that the radio today does not spin these records on the airwaves. However your channel still gives them a life and a voice and spirit, and through you, others will find it and add it to their lives. Thank you for that!
Yes, King Crimson, Peter Gabriel use odd time signatures in a lot of their compositions. It's almost like compositions for an orchestra. It allows these musicians to fit in all sorts of amazing rythms and harmonies that you couldn't fit in during normal 4/4 timings. Enjoy!!! Thank you for the video! ❤

Close to the Edge is such a beautiful album. I’ve been listening to my album for ever until my son asked if he could have some of mine & he’s now discovered YES! I’ve loved them since I was 17. I’m now in my middle 60’s.

@@Lightmane I went to 3 of their concerts in the 70’s & that’s when I really fell for the music. Watching Rick Wakeman on his Moog synthesizer & Jon sing was so wonderful. My sons know that I want Close to the Edge played at the end of my funeral in hopefully 20-30 years.
This album started as essentially a Trevor Rabin album. But then the record label brought in Jon Anderson to contribute vocals and rebranded it a Yes album.
Rabin wrote the initial songs and he teamed up with Chris Squire and Alan White to form Cinema. Jon A was brought in to add vocals and with Tony Kaye also on board they really couldn’t help to call it anything but Yes with four of five prominent members.
So Jamal , you are just entering YES music , its going to be the ride of your life when you get to the 1972 -1975 era , those 3 albums are prime music, thanks for your reactions.
For so long I have been trying to tell you to delve deep into the well of YES music. So many albums and such a major influence on Rush. Dig deep Jamel, dig deep.
This song and its album 90125 came out in 1983, a month after I got out of the hospital having caught on fire, and one month before a close friend died tragically. I was 15 and I listened to this tape over and over. The music seemed then as profound as Amazing Grace and as important as oxygen. Listening now takes me back to those days, with memories both horrible and beautiful, and so thick they could’ve happened last month. What an amazing song. I’m grateful for the thoughts and feelings that returned while listening.
@@neonpark1874 Thanks, I will. My dad has more Yes CDs than I thought he did but if this song is in any indication I may not dig their more "progressive" prog-rock stuff. I kind of draw the line at most Rush songs, some early Genesis and the more experimental Pink Floyd stuff.

I've been a Yes fan since 1970! 50 years of great music. You need to start checking out some live performances to really step the appreciation of what great musicians they are. If I could make a suggestion, check out Rhythm of love from 2 years ago. Dude is 72 and sings better now than he did 50 years ago.
The absolutely incredible Chris Squire on bass! RIP Fish. My favorite bass player ever. He came up with some of the most melodic bass parts I had ever heard in my life. A lot of people don't like this period of Yes and stick to the early progressive rock stuff. That is my favorite era as well, but I respect the Trevor Rabin era and the albums after. The albums The Ladder and Magnification have become two of my new favorites after I gave them a re-listen. This album is great, but the next album is even better, IMO. The Rabin era has some of my favorite Yes material in terms of songwriting, Love this song as well!

Two words, Trevor Rabin. I'm a long time guitar player and he blows me away, and his voice is as smooth as a baby's ass! (These days I probably shouldn't say that.) I think he really compliments the legendary Jon Anderson. My favorite off an awesome '80s classic album. Great reaction as always, J. 🤘🎸

Yes ! Some Yes ! - I saw this in concert in Cleveland. They had laser holographs and a two drum kit 'int the round' drum set on a rotating platform. My favorite concert of all time.

I saw this show as well... on a day that I; Lost my car, lost my job, and 'took my shot' at a woman I was hopelessly infatuated with - and also, WELL out of my league... ;) It was a Friday - my day started with this song as my wake up alarm on the radio, and that night, I unexpectedly found myself at the concert in Sacramento, watching it LIVE... it was the single most "CHANGE-INTENSIVE" day of my life... I will ALWAYS love this song... :)

This song was originally a Trevor Rabin composition, written in 1981 before he began working on 90125 with Yes. Jon Anderson and Alan White contributed to the revised version of the song that was recorded by Yes. Rabin released a recording of his original version of the song on his solo album 90124.
“Changes” received a fair amount of airplay on rock stations, reaching #6 on the US Rock Chart in early 1984.

Saw Yes in concert when this album came out and it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen. They sound even more amazing live! Chris Squire did a bass solo that lasted more than 5 minutes and had the whole crowd basically stunned. And on another note... You are probably the most genuine reactor on CZcams. If you ever get to Tennessee the first round is on me
Trevor Rabin was the guitarist on this album. They have done stuff with both him and Steve Howe since. They did a great concert a year or two ago playing hits from both eras.
So much of this album was based on Trevor Rabin work. After Yes, Trevor went to film score so many movies.
No Jon Anderson means no Yes. The new guy might be good but not a show I'd ever attend.

I was fortunate enough see Yes on this album tour in 1984. Love them!
i looked and didn't see anywhere you've reacted to either of these songs...and they're some of Yes' best songs...period. "Heart of the Sunrise" (a bass line to leave you speechless) and "Yours is no Disgrace" (a song to leave you speechless). they are both more than worth the listen.

I had come to find out about YES in 1978 as a freshman in high school.… And immediately immersed myself in their entire back catalog. I remember when DRAMA came out and that I thoroughly enjoyed it in spite of the lineup changes.(. Steve Howe and Geoff Downes went on to form ASIA with John Wettin and Karl Palmer (from ELP).
Chris Squire and Alan White and YES’ very first keyboard player Tony Kaye got together with South African guitarist Trevor Raven (of Rabbit) got together and began to write music for a new band that they were going to call CINEMA. With that arrangement Trevor was singing all of the lead vocals. Chris Squire invited former lead singer Jon Anderson... to add vocals. After Jon added some vocals everyone decided that the band sounded so much like YES with Jon’s angelic singing, that they changed the name of the band to YES and released 90125 and went out on tour. I was lucky enough to get front row center in Erie Pennsylvania for the opening of the tour with Berlin to open.Before the tour started, Trevor got injured and the Erie concert was moved to a later leg on the tour....When they finally came to Erie… The opening “band” was not a band at all but a showing of a Bugs Bunny cartoon about the waterfall and the mad scientist. Because I had waited so long I was so excited for this show! I had actually talked myself into believing that Trevor Rabin was as good as (if not better than) Steve Howe....An opinion I NO LONGER have… But I remember just being mesmerized. So if these tunes from 90125 sound different… It’s because the band was never going to be YES.
Since then… I’ve seen yes 16 times. My only regret is that I did not get to see them in the 70s… But the 80’s, 90s and 2000s have been great for YES so I can’t complain. In 1991 the album “Union” came out which included many former members of the band .. Including their first drummer Bill Bruford of King Crimson, Tony Kay from the early albums... as well as Rick Wakeman on keys, Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin on guitars and of course Chris Squire on bass and Alan White on drums as well. It was a good attempt to get them all together and they were wonderful shows, but that many people in the band was hard for them and after that album tour, the band split into two camps.The concert was in the round for most of the tour… I was second row in Cleveland for that tour and third row in Buffalo for that tour as well. They did do some dates not in the round which is where I saw them in Pittsburgh at the back of the amphitheater. There was another arrangement of the band called Anderson Bruford Wakeman and Howe which was amazing as well.
Regardless of the lineup… Yes is amazing and my favorite group of all time

I think the word you ur looking for is " TECHNICAL". one of the greatest bands ever. Seen them live 3 times. I have no words. Excellent. They just draw you in seeing them live.

In an incredible and unusual way, with much joy and nostalgia, those of us who are over 58 years old see reflected in the reactions of these beautiful and young people those feelings that these beautiful works produced in our time. Feelings that did not include surprise, because at that time this was what was expected and demanded. Complexity, beauty and excellence, often due to simple habit or habit. Those musicians offered things that except for a few very few exceptions emulated or continued. Will young people also have fun watching our reaction to some more modern or current compositions?

1980s Yes is distinctly different from 70’s Yes, slightly different lineup, best stuff is earlier, checkout “ yours is no disgrace” or “starship troopers”

You might enjoy the performance of YES, at their induction ceremony in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Since their bassist Chris Squire had passed, Geddy Lee from Rush stepped in to help them. It was pretty cool!
Jamel, I’m so happy and proud to see younger generations like you embrace such amazing music like this. Without you and others like you, music this expressive and experimental and nowadays not well known *would* be gone.
My parents brought me up on Yes and Rush and Alan Parsons Project and I get so dejected that the radio today does not spin these records on the airwaves. However your channel still gives them a life and a voice and spirit, and through you, others will find it and add it to their lives. Thank you for that!

Yes, King Crimson, Peter Gabriel use odd time signatures in a lot of their compositions. It's almost like compositions for an orchestra. It allows these musicians to fit in all sorts of amazing rythms and harmonies that you couldn't fit in during normal 4/4 timings. Enjoy!!! Thank you for the video! ❤

Close to the Edge is such a beautiful album. I’ve been listening to my album for ever until my son asked if he could have some of mine & he’s now discovered YES! I’ve loved them since I was 17. I’m now in my middle 60’s.

@@Lightmane I went to 3 of their concerts in the 70’s & that’s when I really fell for the music. Watching Rick Wakeman on his Moog synthesizer & Jon sing was so wonderful. My sons know that I want Close to the Edge played at the end of my funeral in hopefully 20-30 years.
This album started as essentially a Trevor Rabin album. But then the record label brought in Jon Anderson to contribute vocals and rebranded it a Yes album.
I like the Rabin years.
Cinema
Yes, Cinema was the initial name of the band that recorded this album.
Rabin wrote the initial songs and he teamed up with Chris Squire and Alan White to form Cinema. Jon A was brought in to add vocals and with Tony Kaye also on board they really couldn’t help to call it anything but Yes with four of five prominent members.

This song and its album 90125 came out in 1983, a month after I got out of the hospital having caught on fire, and one month before a close friend died tragically. I was 15 and I listened to this tape over and over. The music seemed then as profound as Amazing Grace and as important as oxygen. Listening now takes me back to those days, with memories both horrible and beautiful, and so thick they could’ve happened last month. What an amazing song. I’m grateful for the thoughts and feelings that returned while listening.
How 'bout "Heart of the Sunrise" and "Going for the One". Classic, vintage Yes. Capitalize on this good fortune!
The only Yes Songs I know that he hasn't one yet are "I've Seen All Good People" and "Leave It."
Then you need to do a lot more exploration. It's a very deep, rewarding rabbit hole.
@@neonpark1874 Thanks, I will. My dad has more Yes CDs than I thought he did but if this song is in any indication I may not dig their more "progressive" prog-rock stuff. I kind of draw the line at most Rush songs, some early Genesis and the more experimental Pink Floyd stuff.

I've been a Yes fan since 1970! 50 years of great music. You need to start checking out some live performances to really step the appreciation of what great musicians they are. If I could make a suggestion, check out Rhythm of love from 2 years ago. Dude is 72 and sings better now than he did 50 years ago.

The absolutely incredible Chris Squire on bass! RIP Fish. My favorite bass player ever. He came up with some of the most melodic bass parts I had ever heard in my life. A lot of people don't like this period of Yes and stick to the early progressive rock stuff. That is my favorite era as well, but I respect the Trevor Rabin era and the albums after. The albums The Ladder and Magnification have become two of my new favorites after I gave them a re-listen. This album is great, but the next album is even better, IMO. The Rabin era has some of my favorite Yes material in terms of songwriting, Love this song as well!
