      Agreed. While the winner had a uniqueness to everything she did, Janusz was solid and much more masterful. I hate that they let politics win the day...and I'm a woman aaaand a feminist. J should have won. Period.

      I respectfully disagree. On some technical aspects she blew him out of the water, best example is the foot she did. Good point of comparison as Janusz did one too, that just did not hit the mark.
      But in the end, I think it all boiled down to artistic expression. Were she really had a multilayeredpiece of art, he had very beautifully crafted pieces of glass, they just did not deliver the same type of artistic impact. That being said, he is a wonderful artist in his own right and deserves full credit! Happy to see him here!

    I really loved Janusz' final display in season one. The way he presented it reminded me of one of those shows about astronomy, but with a twist. Instead of being shown on a screen, Janusz produced a very physical representation that If I saw it in person, I would feel like I stepped in the wrong area of a Wizards tower called "The vision room". After stepping inside, an ancient presence, tells me the state of the planet with an ominous voice, all of the mistakes of Humankind.

    Blown away judge was biased from day 1. What a disappointment. They said that the Finale would be based on the whole body of work from day 1, and from day 1 Janusz was at the top while deborah was coasting during the earlier parts of the competition. He should have won that one by a mile. During the top three showdown, they separated deborah's work from the two other in the exhibit and makes it the last one they critique. It was so obvious they want to hype her work. However, up until that time, she had very pedestrian output, relatively. Compared to the other copetitors.

      I couldn’t believe how narcissistic she was during that season and it was even worse when she appeared as a judge in season 2. Debrah had interesting ideas and did some really good work herself but it was a joke that she won season 1.

      Depends on if you take classes at Corning in New York (listed on their website at cmog.org) or at a local university or art center. I'm lucky to have several studios near me. Classes run $60 - $250 per hour depending on what is being offered and who the instructor is. I've been taking classes for more than 2 years and am still a beginner. It takes a long time to become proficient at the basics, but it's lots of fun and very interesting. If you can go to New York, a beginners class at CMOG will help you decide if you want to pursue this or not.

    • @janisfroehlig7744
      @janisfroehlig7744 Před 4 lety +2

      Try doing a web search for "glass studios near me" or "art glass near [your town]”. At the very least you'll come up with a phone number (or two or more) of (a) local glass artist(s) who can point you to
      more people who know more
      people who know more people
      who know more people who
      know more...
      That can apply to any field you want to pursue. Once you meet some people, you just have to inspire them enough with your hunger for learning that they want to keep teaching you (lots of times that inspiration is in the form of cash, but qué serra).

      @@porscha901 Thanks, Andy!
      I'm not so sure that anyone has the right to do *whatever* they want. I think, though, what we all need to flag are those moments of social discomfort, flag them not to speak them but to ask ourselves why the discomfort is there, and whether it would be there if the situation simply looked different (e.g. had pants on, the right colored skin, etc.). It's ok to be uncomfortable for a bit, at least long enough to process it and have *some* congnizance regarding the effect our vomiting it back out at the world will have.

    • @janisfroehlig7744
      @janisfroehlig7744 Před 4 lety +3

      Although glass is a notably social creative process, let's keep it at the front of our attention that Corning Museum is a glass-oriented endeavor, not primarily a social enterprise, at least not yet. How each demo goes is how it goes. That's part of the beauty of glass.
