KEEP WATERING it! The slab will absorb only as much water as it needs to cure, but since the ground was very dry, you want to ensure enough water gets all the way through it before removing the forms. Also, you didn't use an edging tool like Cajun Country does, so that also makes it harder for enought water to seep in. I would leave the forms on as long as you can stand to, but at least a week-- again, because you didn't use an edging tool to separate the wood from the concrete. One more thing-- we pour concrete doesn't achieve 99% of its rated strength until 28 days have passed, so keep watering and don't build on it for at least a couple weeks. Great job!
Pretty concrete is slick in rain or ice. A rough surface is much easier to walk on in the winter.
I have been using dry concrete for years, however I always wet the hole and area around it before dumping the concrete in, then mist the top when finished...
Nice.....good to know. I was considering wetting the ground.....but didn't want to experiment, lol. Thanks for watching
now you can add master mason to your other skills you have mastered. Well done on the first step. Stay safe.
I never get bored with your video
Love it
Glad y'all jumped on this hot topic. It's what got us to 1,000. Thanx for "paving" the way for the rest of us and sharing your journey. We really enjoy and learn a lot from y'all. Be Safe!!
Hey buddy......woot woot to that. Congrats on your accomplishments. I have been so swamped lately i have had very little down time....hope you guys are well and appreciate the support
@@OffgridwithJayandJen we/ve been in the same boat, thankfully. Swamped so just getting caught up.
Jay & Jen ... very cool!! Looks great! Can't wait to see the next part!!
Awesome!!! We cannot wait to see what you guys build!!! Love projects like that.
Fantastic the dry pour concrete works great strong enough to walk on in 24 hours.
Things are looking good! Nice job with the dry concrete - looking forward to seeing what else you come up with.
J you crack me up. You build an eight by eight mud room and a two by three bathroom.😅😂
LMAO 🤣 🤣 that is funny buddy.
Great job guys!!!😇
What a beautiful place.
You guys should be very proud of yourselves. ❤
Awe....thank you
Great job guys.
Well done. Love to see dry pours being done correctly. Hope your off-grid life is a success. Good luck.
Thanks timbob
Nice project, glad to see you two rolling along.
Thanks 👍
I LOVE the new "energy" in your videos. You guys are so sweet, fun, and are a wealth of information! Jen, you should be outlawed- how does anyone coming out of a long icky winter look so GREAT??? But here you are, knocking it out of the park! Jay, you are so educational.....and I appreciate you teaching by example (like what NOT to do! I don't dangle from ladders well, either) Hubs and I just appreciate your videos so much. Thanks, and HUGS from Arkansas (used to be Colorado, but we don't speak about that anymore)
We have a favorite comment

Very interesting, I never saw it done like that before. I’ll be following this one for sure
Ya, CZcams search it too and you can see cajin country living made a popular video about it.....makes it easy for us off grid folk too
@@OffgridwithJayandJen Thanks for the info
Your new concrete looks nice.
Thanks
great job thank you for the video👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Way to go, you two can't wait for your walls to go up
Thanks David
Looking forward to see you mud room
Woot woot...nice dance floor
Thank you 🤗
Nice job! 😎😊😎
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job would like to see the room you build on it when you get it done, looking good so far
Triple WOOT!!
😊👍😉
Great job! That pad should do the job!
Thanks buddy.....hope you are well
Jen's commentary throughout this video had me laughing out loud. The mud room is a great idea!
Ha....thanks
Nice 👍🏾👍🏾!
Cool!! I sure want to see how it works out. If it works, I will be doing my floor for my outdoor shower this way.
So far so good....😊👍
Very nice! The only thing I would’ve done different is form it under the cabin about a foot. So water sheeting off the cabin doesn’t fall behind it.
good video !!!
Thanks!
benches that double as storage especially cold storage if its not super insulated later like a cold pantry maybe? cant wait to see what it ends up being!
Joining in late, but well done. looking forward to your design build
Thanks! glad You made it =)
I sure hope you pulled the ROOTS out of the dirt first before you start. Yup I watched Cajun Country when they did their pads. It was amazing to see you two munchins do the same thing. It will come out perfect just be patient and let it cure for a bit. God Bless you both and GREAT JOB!!! It's going to be fantastic when you finish that new addition. GOD BLESS YOU AL.L. Big HUGS.
Ha....Sandra....didn't you know that roots are a good bonding agent? Ha Ha...just kidding. We pulled more and more roots put as we went. 😊👍
@@OffgridwithJayandJen I am still laughing here regarding your comment WHEW lolol.
#1 rule… lol… move heavy bags of material once! I’m 67, having Home Depot deliver 114 bags of 50 lb bags so I can lift them! Delivered to within 5’ of where they will go.
Lol . Hope it goes well! We just picked up 100 60lb bags (so 3 tons!!!) Lots of moving to occur 🤣
@@OffgridwithJayandJenLowes delivered 1 pallet inside my form and the other next to it. I cut a U in each bag before I lift it and turn it over. I used 2”x6” boards here in NH. Put 45 bags in, then added metal like you, then I added 45 more bags. Tried to level it, but really needed 2 people to screed. Had helpers the next day. Added 10 more bags and got a bag of non aggregate cement to sprinkle over the pebble areas. Rolled w a paint roller. I have a few bumpy areas from the paint roller, and I’m still watering it 5 days later. Looks great! FYI- for 2x6 forms that are 8’ x10’ I used 100 bags total. Returned the extra.
That looks like y'all got this! CCL is a great channel with some great ideas! I bet your showers got some miles on it already!!! 😁😉
Heck ya buddy
Just came across your chan. Great job. TEAM WORK!!
Awesome! Thank you! 😊👍
Need to give your flowers a drink of water
good job
Thanks
Oh my aching back !!! Them 80 lbrs killing me !! Great job looks awesome 😎
Thanks buddy
I’ve been making trips in my Camry a few times a week lifting the 50lb bags and after the first few bags I dread the rest.
I haven’t seen anyone pour concrete like that before I always did it with a wheelbarrow wow that is amazing excellent work jay and Jen here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Thanks buddy......Cajin country living was the first ones to show us how to do it......make sure you check then out 👍
Hi Jay and Jen.
Hey Larry..woot woot
Ive never tried pouring dry concrete...after your video I think ill keep it that way...lol, came out really nice though!
HA.....IT did work great....we could have been a little more gentle with the bags of concrete....but they are heavy.
pěkné betonování
Thanks Silvie
This is going to be a great addition for storage - especially in bad weather! Smart to ‘pour’ now so it is totally cured, settled, etc. by the time you want to build. Nice little dance, Jen!😍
😊👍
I don’t care what the naysayers say about dry pour but it worked out great for 2 old ladies with minimal tools and no experience.
Ours is holding up great as well......I don't get the hate. Lol
Nice job ! If you don't get dirty, it's not work ! Lol. Enjoy your videos!
You got that right!
Nice slab! Turned out super. Love Cajun Country Living. L & J (and Lil' L) are so fun to watch just like you two. Will you grade the dirt away from the slab for water run off? Looked a little high in the front and towards the deck. Thanks for sharing
oh Yes.....it is cleaned up now.....Trying to get some grass growing around it now.
Nice hehe you dont need to go to gym mr .. nice work
Lol....not today 😊
Looks good! Them bags get heavy! Keep it wet, it will cure better!
👍
Jay you need to find that bare electric wire Jennie stepped on. Did a DAMN good job.SEMPER FI
LOL....THANKS MY FRIEND
Looks great....I thought you were going to pour a slab for a hot tub LOL!!
Ha.....maybe soon. I need to find the right shell first. Been looking
put sleepers in the cement// for building a wall
YOUR THE MAN MY FRIEND 😊
Best wishes my friend
Thats a long yellow thingy lol. Will be interesting to see the rest of your build.
Make sure to soak enough water to bond the cement with the rocks so that it won't crack.
making that truck work. surprised you didn't wheelie up the mountain, Jay
Ha.....almost. Crap thing is I must have pushed her too hard, the tranny took a crap shortly after.....NOT impressed lol
I would add more water.
👍
Hi,bill from MN and my wife and I just did a small 5x3slab by our porch. Was wondering how your slab is holding up.
Thanks bill
So Far it is doing great. We are just starting our room build around it and while digging around the Slab it seems Hard and solid. We did Choose to sink posts outside the Slab instead of build ON it, but that was only so we didn't have to drill into it and anchor the walls.
🤣🤣🤣💯💯💯great job
Jason Crocker put it dry in his barn. It turned out good
Cool....Jen mentioned maybe doing that in ours too....but that is a LOT of bags of concrete, lol
The instruction on HOW to mix are on the package.
You are not saving any time dry pouring. The HUGE amount of time required to REPLACE it far sooner is just not worth the HUGE risk of a worthless pad.
AND: in Northern climate rebar is the only way to give the pad horizontal strength AND water/freeze/heave WILL happen.
I guess we will find out......stay tuned for the video of us removing it.....will be very soon I guess.
I have one of those long yellow things you use, but it's broken - there is an air bubble in it... 😁
Lol...that's funny stuff
Gonna be nice no doubt now all ya need is one of them cement ponds 😆 jk thats was too much concrete work
Ha.....thanks Jim
That slab is millions of years old.
-evolutionist
I was just thinking that maybe you could have wet the cement down when you put in the mesh and the put in the rest of the cement. Never tried the dry pour before.
I'm excited to try this i live in northern Michigan too. thinking a new front step is in order. where can i get siding like that?
We bought a sawmill and made it ourselves, cut down the trees that needed cutting down and made good use of them. If you have any questions let us know. 👍
How did it go through the freeze thaw cycle this spring?
It held up great we actually just did an update on it czcams.com/video/rkAy0VEym_E/video.html
