Boy, there is no doubt about who it is when Byron Nelson swings
Beautiful footage
Thank you very much!
Almost there with naming them all. Just a few time slots to fill in. Any inputs welcome:

The "Old School" is the "Cool School!!" There was an artistry to these great stylists that is almost nonexistent today. Also, make no mistake that Hogan, Snead, and Nelson would hit it as far or further than anyone playing today. Only they did it with a smoothness and rhythm as graceful as an MGM musical. If that's old fashioned, give us old fashioned. We'd be laughing all the way to the bank.
@@donaldschmidt2990 agree on all that. We need more characters in the game today. Less ‘cookie cutter’ approach. Thanks for the inputs 👍😊🤝
They all had sweet swings that would last a lifetime. With current equipment you can go at it harder and that is why guys swing so hard today.
Would be great to see the old school play in the modern game. No doubt they would still be greats!
Contact the Palm Beach CC as their website is limited. Ask if they have archived tee sheets from tournaments in the late 50's. And I believe that is a young Ken Venturi pictured in the front row ( 7th from the left and 3rd from the right, white Hogan cap, white shirt with dark red slacks.)
I agree that's Peter Thompson at 4:32, maybe Demaret in the background at 5:01. Could be Gene Littler in the red sweater.
I love watching the old school naturalistic swings. Once video was common everybody started trying to copy someone else's swing. I think that ruined a lot of golfers.
Yes, a lot to be said for going with what feels natural. Difficult today to ‘go your own way’ with so many comparisons to the video swing of the ‘greatest’ player 😊
Ive always tried to swing like the old school guys..Way more accurate and using the club for your rhythm makes the game so much easier..Back never hurts either haha
Awesome footage, don’t know where you dug it up but thanks.
I have the original film real. Not sure where I got it but probably at some golf auction or on eBay many years ago. Glad I could convert it and put it up here. Seems many people appreciate it! If you have not already subscribed, please do so I can keep bringing new vintage golf films on here. Thanks again!
Love watching these "old school" swings...How on earth did Sam not win a U.S. Open? Byron Nelson's head looked like it dropped a foot at impact...LOL...I did notice Peter Thomson near the end of the video and possibly Al Besselink as well..
Thanks for your inputs! Yes, just shows there are many ways to do it. Even while we all look for the secret recipe, it turns out there are some common ingredients and then some individual ingredients! Please subscribe - more coming! Thanks again!

Snead had trouble with the flat stick. I don’t know if there’s a prettier swing than his
This is pre 1960, Bob Toski is one of the players at :36. No Knudson, Weiskopf that I can see. Littler is at the end, he was on tour in mid 50's, which is when this was filmed. Byron and George Fazio are in the Hogan caps, guy in the pink pants at the end looks like Bob Hamilton, who won pga championship in late 1940's
Great inputs- thanks! Was thinking mid-50s?
Excellent inputs! Have updated the description now with your good inputs!!! Many thanks!
Wow! Great teamwork!!! Appreciate all the inputs..... all players except 2 (just 15 seconds of footage) are now named! You are great!!

What brilliant footage! Thanks so much for posting. I don’t want to be a killjoy but I’m fairly sure the ones labeled as Bob Toski aren’t him. I don’t know who it is unfortunately. Whoever it is is about 1’ taller and 30 lbs heavier than Toski, ha ha. I think the ones you have as Cary Middlecoff are actually Tommy Aaron and can 100% confirm the red sweater is Gene Littler. Thanks again for these. If you have any more I’m sure many like myself would love to see them. 👍🏻
@@samosborne2918 great input. Much appreciated😊 Please like and subscribe to help us along a little to enable more of these old film reels to get digitized and get on here 👍 Thanks again!
Great footage, thanks for sharing 👍
Glad you enjoyed it👍😊🙏
I think that is Peter Thomson in the pale blue jumper (the high left shoulder; and this is before he injured his left arm, it's straighter here) and I think it might be Cary Middlecoff in the visor (he often/always wore.one).
Thomson around 1:08?
Cary around 4:00?
@@vintagegolffilms No, that is definitely Byron Nelson at 1:08 - he had what his fellow pros called "a vertical sway" not that it impaired his great swing (and results). Thomson is at 4:32.
@@vintagegolffilms Cary, I think, starts at 3:44 up to and then also briefly again after Thomson.
Byron Nelson @@vintagegolffilms
I think 1:30 to 1:55 in the pink sweater is JIM TURNESA
When golf was king
And Elvis 😊👍
At 0:36 and 4:46 Arnold Palmer !
Snead, wesikopf, Nelson, Thompson
Thanks for inputs!!! Can you give me time where you see Tom W?

Yes, exactly my thought.... is that Hogan as it's a Hogan outfit...then, no it's Byron!! Thanks for the confirmation!

Byron Nelson group shot back middle white cap
I just know the obvious ones Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Jimmy Demaret -all very distinctive. Possibly George Knudson from far away and maybe Tommy Aaron crossing the line with a driver. There's a bunch I have no clue about.
What time do you see Demaret? There are a few inputs on him so just to clarify?
@@vintagegolffilms Demaret is on from 2:00 til 2:10 and 2:46 mark to 3:42.
great footage, thanks, what year is it? Looks like Peter Thomson at 4.32; maybe George Knudson in the pink trousers at 2.04
Thanks for the inputs! Not sure of the year. I'm guessing 50s??

Who’s the gentleman at 1:32 ?
My guess is Chick Harbert but I'm not sure? Any ideas?
@@vintagegolffilms not a clue. I was admiring the symmetry of his golf swing, very nice.
I think it's JIM TURNESA, I recognise him from the footage of him with the Ryder Cup team of the era
