N looking at left n right division in our country now, these history lessons put some origin understanding behind this, division seems to be at very beg giving meaning n natural understanding to division we currently see
YESSS JULIAN. As always, and once again, you have blown me away with your fire content, big hello from your Australian fans 🇦🇺
Hey JD , you do realise that there's a guy after cloning your profile and is trying to scam us in comments ,only an eejit would think it's you anyway.👍🇮🇪💚👍
Very good episode. Dan Carlin and Stephen Kotkin would be great guests.
A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel down his pants. The bartender says, "what's that for?" The pirate replies, "Arrrrr, it's driving me nuts!" This was an excellent episode. There's something fascinating about pirates, the stories are great and imagining finding buried treasure is every man's dream. He told these historical accounts with so much enthusiasm that it held my attention without pause.
Love to hear it Ethan!
Ooh that's a good one I think I'll borrow it😂
Stealing that 😂😂😂
😂😂
I agree mate 👍
A pirate with a hook for a hand and an eyepatch was asked about his injuries. " T'was a shark, what took me hand. And a blasted pelican," spits on ground "What took me eye. Bugger shit in me face. It was me first week with the hook..."
😂😂😂😂😂
Absolutely hilarious

Hi Julian. If you are interested in Kosovo, look into a guy named Ron Haviv. He’s a conflict photographer who was there in 99. Dont remember the general’s name but he put a hit out on Ron for exposing war crimes. I believe he is based out of Brooklyn. A search of his name will give you a few results if you want to look into him.
Good to know -- thank you!
The coffee cup on the desk is killin me, does anybody else always look at it like when Bart was writing on the blackboard and the scene cuts out fast...lol

As a Rhode Islander Here I’ve been going deep on the only original Colony that harbored Privateer’s. Our first attorney general’s kid was a pirate and all down hill since.
Dude I’m entertained, We need more Pirate and early American history JD!!!
When I was a kid in the 70s I used to fish for mullet in Tampa Bay near Rocky creek, there was a hermit that lived out on a midden he would take me across the bay in a bigger skiff we would sell mullet to the Mullet Inn Hed buy a bottle of booze. This dude would tell some awesome stories about Pirates in that area which ignited my young imagination. He died a bit latter and I found his body. but my dog dug up a bunch of buried folgers coffee jars filled with what looked like bills turned out to be cut up newspaper the same size as bills. I ended up finding a whole bunch of jars but no cash has to be out there still. Gasparilla was known to sail into the bay and get fresh water from the creek he swore he had a stash of booty there.
i get excited for every new julien show, can always tell if its gonna be a banger w the intro love the intros, really helps decide if i want to spend 3 hours listening to someome i might not have interest in
Glad to hear you're loving the show man!
Sweet, I will be listening to this while programming today.

LFG Damien!
great podcast great guest!!
Great episode, got me through work
Not sure if it was mentioned but, Jack Sparrow is based on the real-life pirate Jack (John) Ward. Ward later became a Corsair for the Ottoman Empire as "Yusef Reis".
So the eye patch wasnt from loosing an eye it was to have an eye dilated for going below deck when you went below deck you would be essentially blind so you would switch the eye patch and have one eye ready but youre deffinately right about pegs and hooks
Double checked just cause that sounded like bs and it is 😂
This is great!
🙌 🙌
Great episode. I absolutely ❤ the pirate age. Its fascinating how much impact they had on the world in such a short period of time. The tv series Black Sails is a must watch.
Didn't expect to hear about Croatia in this podcast :)
If you enjoy this subject, you have to watch the TV series Black Sails. While not factual is does shed some light on the subject. It's also very entertaining.
Top 10 best series ever. Recently added to Netflix ❤
That goes yrs back! Good show. Have the series on HD somewhere.

Why are pirates thief's? "Cause they Arrrrr"
The jolly roger was a templar symbol and alot of survivors of the friday the 13th massacre ended up as pirates theres a fair amount of evidence that the reason they became pirates was to get revenge for the massacre and wreak as much havok as they could and disrupting shipping lanes was a great way to do so
Thank you 😊
✊
An unusual topic, should be very good, especially for me anyway cos I don't anything about pirates except for Grace O Mally the famous Irish pirate queen. I love learning so I'm gonna love this, nice one 👍🇮🇪
One of the main trade routes was off the east coast of the Dominican Republic. I remember snorkelling there few year back and even saw a cannon on the sea bed. Was a good 25-30foot down. Would have loved to have explored it more. Could have been treasure
Down there.
there are not pirates today just skinny africans who steal boats
😂
One Piece calls some privateers warlords hinting how warlords and cartels and insurgencies are land pirates of today.
OMG AMAZING GET, COLIN WOODARD IS MY FAVORITE HISTORIAN
Our Flag Means Death is a fun pirate show. Historical characters/location with a satire story from Taika Waititi
Still find coins after storms on the treasure coast to. This day. My buddy collects gold , has it made into jewelry and sells.
I appreciate you Sir Dorey for doing your part to get truths out like you do 🙏
My pleasure!
The first three of the Pirate of the Caribbean films are the best. Also, Assassin's Creed Black Flag is my favorite out of the game series.
Half of a crew dying per a typical voyage seems a little high to believe. Port towns are gonna notice and stop participating via manpower.

God dsmn..Tipper? SOMEONE IN NJ has to know.
Europeans, and yes I am generalizing every country in the continent, will look at this history and scoff saying it’s “before the U.S.A. existed”, and just ignore the centuries where certain European countries would basically, if not literally, be occupied by foreign powers. Probably because they were the colonizers and think it’s part of their history, but it’s not solely theirs. It’s shared.
Top!
Greek mythos is full of pirates.

Assassins Creed Black Flag is the best Assassins Creed and pirate game ever made.

So strange how the Marxist syntax sticks out. Not my thing and nothing this guy said did I really disagree with but lots of , “bourgeois” and pointing out Capitalist faults, maybe I heard some power concepts that come more specifically to that mindset. I wonder if that is why Julian mentioned his travels in the crumbling Communist Bloc. I wondered if anybody else noticed?

Honestly I hate the highlights shown at the beginning. I know you’re trying to separate from the JRE model but spoilers ain’t it.
Why do I always like Julians guests as much as I dislike him.
He feels so fake . In the same way as Danny Jones . They seem like 2 parts of Joe rogan. Together they are kinda like a deliberate rip off copy pasteexperience.
He has he same curtain as Joe did before in LA . Why?
Why does Danny have an obvious ripoff of joes "symbol"
They both have same type ofguests and both ask same type of questions to hose guests as Joe would or in fact have done

Julian always has the dumbest jokes that detract or derail the storyteller instead of jokes that add to the story or help the continuity
