  • The new Yamaha R7 is a hell of a lot of fun to ride, but the seat height is high relative to other bikes on the market. As a short rider you are limited on options on what you can ride. By following this tutorial you can have your feet planted closer to the ground at a stop whether you are 5'2 or 5'10 and ride much more confidently. If you gained any knowledge at all, please sub and like the channel for the algorithm.

    This was super helpful and very detailed, thanks for the video man! Just lowered my R7 and it was very straight forward after watching this. I do want to note, before installing the bearings onto the lowering link you'll have to install the bushings from the stock link, i think you had a bit of play/wobble when you installed the lowering link because the bushings were not placed on the lowering link. The bushings make it nice and snug. I'm sure it'll be fine without them, but i just wanted to throw that out for anyone else watching this as a guide. Thanks again!

    Love the quality video going into depth with the torque specs and showing how the proper measurements of lowering, only thing I did different was before unclamping the handles I got tipex an marked where the handles sit before removal helped with even steer an also a quick wipe with detailer tipex gone like white board marker. Used long 3/8 ratchet with extension an swivel socket to get into the bolts, used some anti-seize on each bolt so next rider won’t have any problems unbolting 😎 ohh the R7 for anyone reading probably best beginner bike if you have dough to splash an have in mind you will have a fall depending on how you are as a biker and other road users. the hp an unbalanced firing order gives the rider friendly pull from Stand still also traffic situations won’t need to worry about to much jerk from the bike as it’s smooth taking off compared to other similar sized bikes. Stay awesome guys and keep life juicy😎

    My girlfriend is 4 11. She could ride a ninja 650 which had a 31.1 inch stock seat. And she lowered it about 2 inches and she was on her toes but comfortable. I was hoping to lower the r7 more then 2 inches because that would only be 30.9. We don't track it. But would it be helpful and practical to get the second lowering kit that you did not put on your r7? To maybe lower it 3 in? And also maybe a lower profile tires might help as well? One more thing. I heard about lowering the front fork suspension but by lessening the fork oil and there was hardware as well which made it lower in the front. Thank you!

    • @MaxamillionEd
      @MaxamillionEd  Před 2 lety +2

      LeeY I'm 5'2 and if I can touch you should be able to as well. Just use one foot and lean a little to the side. You can also make the suspension softer for your weight allowing the bike to sag just a little more. I don't recommend going any lower than I did in this video.

    Great video, thanks. I do have a question though. Is it possible to place the clip-ons above the triple tree after lowering the front end? Granted, it may raise the pitch of the rider but I don't think it would be anything significant. Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about wrapping the fork with electrical tape for the clip-on to be secured to.

    • @MaxamillionEd
      @MaxamillionEd  Před 13 dny

    • @MaxamillionEd
      @MaxamillionEd  Před 2 lety +3

      Same as the video! It will change how the bike turns on a lean as in it will feel a bit heavier but nothing too dramatic. If you plan on tracking the bike then I wouldn't recommend lowering because you'll be scraping you rear sets and feet all over the place on a lean

    I've installed the Trex lowering link and it lowered it too much, next I installed Soupy's Lowering Link and even at it's lowest setting, still dropped too much, also was a pain to adjust, have to make sure equal turns. Ended up with Extreme Creations lowering link, good price and easy to adjust without removing anything but a bolt. Has stock stock, -25mm, +25mm, and -35mm settings. Order it with a bearing installed, makes install go a lot faster. The -25mm will lower it an inch. Even though it's says stock, stock actually makes it lower by 1/2 inch.

    How does this affect handling? I'm thinking about buying one of these bikes in a few weeks when they get them back in because they don't make the R6 anymore which used to be the love of my life. I'm 5'6-5'7 so that R6 at a red light had me leaning over a little bit.

    • @Stu81
      @Stu81 Před rokem +2

      Well the r7 is almost an inch lower than the r6 (2017-2020 model)so you might be fine if you was able to handle the r6, lowering by 1 inch will have minimal effect on the handling more than 2 inch will be noticeable especially when cornering, might drag pegs or worse a foot, seen a guy catch his foot mid corner and throw his leg off on a lowered bike, almost high sided but saved it, he wasn't use to keeping his toes on the pegs rather then letting his feet hang down.

      @@Stu81 yeah when I was living in Gainesville where all the University of Florida kids are, all the kids have scooters and a few of them motorcycles. Half of these kids ride around with their feet out as if it's going to save them at speed. Anyway I ended up buying my friends R3. If you actually know how to ride, that bike is fast and crazy fun(full race exhaust doesn't hurt😉). You just don't get that top end orgasm that you get on the R6, but anyway thanks for the response dude.

    Don't mean to bust your balls but if whoever is riding that bike come down hard from a wheelie those clip on barends will brake off from not being clamped properly. Also that front-end is going to be so unstable with the forks being dropped that far. He needs a steering stabilizer for sure. Can't remember what the measurements is for sport bikes. On dirt bikes you only can drop it 5mm.
