  • Welcome back to the Guide to to Fire Emblem Awakening. Today we'll be going over the Classes and Skills they have to offer, where they rank on a tier list, and if they're worth grinding for or leaving on the chopping block.
    DLC and personal classes will be included for this. Next time, we'll be going over the characters and what their skills should be based on the classes they can branch off to. Only the Parent units, however; the Children will get their own parent as they have a lot more variables to consider.

    Honestly I think there’s something to be said about what makes galeforce such a good skill, it’s not that it lets a unit kill two enemies during player phase, that’s definitely good, but the real benefit is that it lets a unit act after getting a kill, meaning they move again, if defeat boss is the objective, having 16 tiles of movement via galeforce means reaching them turn one is really easy. Units can be built for Enemy phase combat and preform just as well as combat units as units with galeforce, Galeforce is mostly good because of what the second action enables. Not the combat application.
    Counter is not a good skill having something like a breaker skill, a faire skill or even just a stat skill is better, Counter is horrible paired with sol because it depletes the hp you need on your opponent to heal, and enemy hp is way more expendable than your units hp, dragon skin enemies are also immune to counter.
    The exp gaining skill imo are underrated, they aren’t combat skills but unless you expect people to grind they are very meaningful boosts to a unit’s growth, Robin having veteran makes Robin easily the best unit in the game in a low grinding or no grinding context.
    The rally skills aren’t to be underestimated, they absolutely should be in meta, while it’s best to have them all on one unit, that doesn’t mean they aren’t good, something like Rally heart is definitely better than aggressor considering that it means one unit can essentially account for +2 to all stats in a good chunk of your allies, not to mention rally spectrum, even rally strength and rally magic are better than aggressor, because they benefit more allies and work on enemy phase.
    Really only rally luck has an argument for being less than meta, and even then, it’s still a positive effect. There’s no real reason they can’t be considered with other skills.
    Aggressor is also overrated, it’s not bad, but considering that Awakening is a game that enemy phase juggernauts are totally viable in, there’s no reason you’d have to rely on it, especially with the rally skills and limit breaker, renewal is also imo overrated for a skill that doesn’t do anything during combat, and competes with reliable healing from staffs
    bows in awakening are actually a lot better in a lunatic+ context where the ability to counter 1 range is sometimes detrimental.
    Slow burn is terrible, the dark mage class skills hex and anathema are actually amazing because they completely passively can help out your army a lot, enemies standing next to a dark mage lose 25 avoid, and that can really matter.
    I noticed you put a lot of skills in “situational” when they kind of just aren’t. The exp gaining skills aren’t “situational” until you cap your stats, and some of them trigger so often that situational is an incorrect term, lifetaker for example, the situation is that you kill an enemy something you’d inevitably do. Defender activates constantly if you pair up your unit. The stat boosting skills are always in effect
    They might not always be the best skills but they’re also skills you wouldn’t replace unless you had something better, and considering that units need to reclass in order to have more than 4 skills, it’s not effortless to replace all of a unit’s skills.
    Also it’s weird to me that you put taguel’s beastbane in great to have when you put taguel, the only class it works for, as a low tier class.
    Also griffin rider isn’t the worst promoted class in the game, it’s not general, it’s still a flying class with 8 movement and axes, which isn’t bad, it’s not that much worse than wyvern just because it has lances, and also don’t be under the impression that pegasus knights are only mage killers, they might have more res typically, but they can still be very effective against pretty much anything, and can just use better weapons or otherwise boost their strength if their offense isn’t high enough.
    Also Wyvern isn’t only accessible mid-game, fredrick robin, and panne can all reclass into it.
    And Warrior isn’t really a bad class considering that it has axes, and I don’t get why you think the crit skills are bad on warrior, they’re still beneficial.
    Also, theif statistically is just worse than mercenary and myrm it’s utility is that it learns two good skills, locktouch which is ok, and mov +1 which is really good.
    And also imo don’t get your support classes mixed in a bunch, they’re very different classes, and all of them are capable of some combat, except dancer imo. It’s only the staff usage between the ones capable of it that is really interchangeable. But none of them have to focus on staffs.

      In my Awakening character only Alotheosis run, rally bots are what made the true final difference in my strategy. I made my Female Morgan my rally bot as she can get Rally Spectrum from Grandmaster, Rally Strength through inheritance, and Rally Heart through Bride. Add in Rally Magic from Sage and Rally speed from (I forgot) and she makes for an insane rally bot. I know, I know, she’s a great combat unit too, but I had plenty of those and valued her more for her immense rally bot support.

    • @samkeiser9776
      @samkeiser9776 Před 11 měsíci +3

      @@tristanbowles7258I think being a rally bot is a completely valid use of morgan. Both morgans are good combat units, but so is Robin, and aside from skill access Morgana isn’t that much better than Robin, you can build other units to be around as strong.
      Especially considering that limit breaker takes up a skill slot for your combat units and is worth it, so the wide variety skill access of Morgan isn’t as necessary.
      Rally bot morgan with Rally heart and spectrum alone is worth it.
      Not to mention that morgan can have a sibling that’s equally capable of being a combat unit
      Rally speed comes from Falcon knight

      I can see what you mean in regards to Counter and Sol, but I'm going to assume you were typing this up as you went along with the video because I already mentioned Dragonskin does outright deny Counter as well as Lethality. I talk about this in the Assassin section. The only reason Paragon is in situational is because it has an end point once you acquire all you want in terms of skills and classes. Yes they are underrated. Now, Rally skills ARE great. I just didn't want them to clog the meta tier. While they may appear in the center of the tier list that doesn't mean they're Mid or anything. If I sounded like I was downplaying them, then I apologize, but I also do mention the value of rally bots in the DLC skills section. "they’re almost a must have for the game’s hardest maps". I'm going to go more in depth for them in the Einherjar section in the unit guide, but yeah, Rally skills are not bad. Rally Luck is kinda mid though.
      I'm going to bunch the aggressor remark with Panne because, yeah they aren't THAT good in the grand scheme of things, but here's the thing: a character like Panne is doomed to fail cuz she doesn't have access to the best skills in the game. But I'm not making a guide that's hyper focused on being the most optimized, best units only. This is a General Guide for those who are considering trying Lunatic or to start pushing for a more somewhat optimized playthrough. There are those, as I will mention in the next part of the guide, that will use "bad" units despite being told not to by the community(And unfortunately, pestered for using them too.) Some of these skills are on situational because some, not all units, are kinda stuck with them. Characters that are bad like Stahl, Panne, or some other characters kinda have little choice but to use some skills that have little value like Slow burn. That's just the luck of the draw.
      Griffon IS the worst flying class in this game. They got hand axes and that's it. Sure, that 8 +2 movement is great, but I'd rather have a Falcon Knight because at least they can use staves like rescue and the other healing staves. I'm just being stubborn on that though.
      As for them being in support, they can do that if you so wish, but if you wish to use them for offensive stuff, be my guest.
      Hope I didn't sound hostile with my addendum. Not my intention here as I do see your points, or at least I hope I do.

    One thing to add: I think Falcon knight has some great uses as a rescue and rally bot on harder difficulties
    On apotheosis and other late game maps, having 2 or 3 Falcon knights with 8 unrestricted Mov to just rescue galeforce users is amazing to position better. They really bring out the fullest potential of Awakenings most broken skills and units

    Anathema is probably the most underrated skill in the game. (and I am once again defending it lol)
    The -10 Dodge refers to Crit Avoid (which is really unintuitive), so the skill is effectively giving you +10 Hit and +10 Crit. Basically you give a better version of Focus/Gamble/Zeal to not just yourself, but also anybody attacking nearby enemies. Also, you can stack with those other crit-boosting skills and/or use the Ruin tome, which is a renewable source of 50 crit. There's a reason why Grima carries this skill. And this is on a base class. And Tharja/Henry both get it automatically. Doesn't stack with itself, though.
    A few other notes:
    -Galeforce is funny (VERY useful if you're doing Tiki's Paralogue) but you definitely don't need it on regular Normal/Hard playthroughs, since tanking large groups of enemies is really easy in this game. Also, it does nothing if you don't secure the kill, same as Lifetaker. The reward is much better but the risk is the same. Great to have.
    -Pavise/Aegis are kind of underwhelming, especially in a game where you can avoid/Dual Guard all damage with S support + skills + terrain, exploit Rescue staves, Galeforce out of danger, heal back with Sol/Aether/Nosferatu, or steamroll half the game with a buffed up Manakete that takes 0 physical damage. It takes a fair amount of commitment to get Pavise/Aegis, and it still has a (100-Skill)% chance to do nothing. Situational.
    -Base class pair-up bonuses don't get mentioned nearly enough. Knight's +4 Def, Fighter's +4 Str, and Myrm's +4 Spd all can make a big difference in the early game, when most of your units can't class change yet. I wouldn't recommend reclassing for pair-up bonuses, but I would recommend bringing Kellam to Ch4 even if you're not going to use him to fight.
    -General/Berserker are also SUPER good options for pair-up, to the point where I would bump them up to Support tier at least. You can go all in on the front unit by neglecting the back unit, turning them into a really optimized stat backpack. It doesn't matter if the General gets doubled or if the Berserker gets killed by magic, because they'll never be exposed to danger. Also the Dual Strikes will hurt.
    ~~~~
    tl;dr Anathema good (free crit and hit for everyone, no downside, don't have to grind for it)
    Pavise/Aegis bad
    General/Berserker good
    The "Faire" skills are extra helpful compared to the ones in later games because they directly increase the stat, not the damage dealt, so a Falcon Knight with Lancefaire, for example, when using a Shock stick would gain +5 to magic making their staves more effective, longer range or higher healing for instance.
    Lunatic difficulty no grind/no dlc class guide:
    S Tier: Dark Mage
    B+ Tier: Hero/Sol and then reclass, Dancer, any class with staves probably (rescue is goated)
    C: Basically everything else lmao
    Special Tier: Great Knight for Luna. Not that great of a skill most of the time but goated for killing the absolute abomination that is the Lunatic Grima.
    Without DLC grind I think reclassing just to pick up a skill is almost never worth it - usually much better just to promote ASAP. There are specific situations where it can be though.
    I generally don't even look at Promoted Level 15 skills for any unit except Robin (xp skill + 100% availability is cracked for levelling) as they take a long time to get to so won't matter for like 80%+ of the game. E.g. Galeforce is the most overrated skill without DLC is as it takes an unreasonable amount of time to get and requires you to take the otherwise objectively worse Dark Flier class. Forget about inheriting it onto gen two units - by the time you have unlocked it there will be no point.
    Without DLC grind I think reclassing just to pick up a skill is almost never worth it - usually much better just to promote ASAP. I also find that most gen 2 characters are pretty terribly designed: a lot of their joining maps are so cock and ball torture that if you can clear them then you have no need of the unit anyway. Some, like Morgan's, are doable early enough that I think they are OK. I don't think there is a single gen two unit I would rate higher than any of the gen ones.
    Galeforce is one of the most overrated skills in FE history. It’s a decent skill. Not good, not bad. People who sing it’s praises have only ever thought about it in concept. Awakening is a tank game, not a nuke game. Durability is far more important than firepower. Sol is easily better than it. Wanna know what the best skill setup in the game is? Capped Hero with Sol, Limit Breaker, Armsthrift , Vengeance, Aether or Vantage, with a 1-2 range weapon like Ragnell. That will serve you infinitely better than any Galeforce Setup.
