  • In this video, I share some basic knowledge and tips I have with using the Uniden BCD436HP scanner. I'm not an expert, but have been using it for a few years and have gotten some questions over the years about it, so I thought I would share some basic things I know about the scanner. Feel free to comment and ask me anything you want about this scanner and I will try my best to answer your question. I hope you enjoy!🎣

    Push the function button (above the menu button) and then press down on the top knob (volume button). Twist the knob to change the setting.

      That's great. I know you will enjoy it. I don't think those are encrypted yet, but a lot around metro Atlanta are. Gwinnett is totally encrypted. All but school buses.

      I only have DMR but one day will get the others. I’ve heard pros and cons about each radio. I’m sure I’ll get the SDS100 eventually.

      I might have to purchase this scanner here, my sds100 don’t pull much weight with DMR. Heard a lot of good things about this scanner regarding DMR..

    Can you do a barrel scan all of your channels and then just stopped on an active Channel? Then, when there's no noise on that channel and a restart scanning again through your the rest of your channels on the database of what you have programmed in or do you have to scan one department at a time

    • @Never_Enough_Outdoors
      @Never_Enough_Outdoors  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes , by entering frequencies manually or programming in a certain way, you can do that. Cannot do that using the built-in database.

    Very good for the most part, but one of the down sides of this radio is when you're listening to P25 systems, each user has a different volume level and can be REALLY ANNOYING to barely hear one unit and the dispatcher comes out at an ear r*pe level. No known fix to this as of 2023

    My father had set up the scanner before he passed away, but whenever my local police channels come on, all the voice is scrambled. Every local police department. Do you know why this might be? The fire and EMS and other channels you can hear fine, it's just the police departments that are scrambled.

    • @Never_Enough_Outdoors
      @Never_Enough_Outdoors  Před 6 měsíci

      Go ask in the forum at RadioReference.com. Someone will know. I would say it has to do something with encryption but the encryption I’m used to, you can’t hear at all.

    • @Never_Enough_Outdoors
      @Never_Enough_Outdoors  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It works on any USB plug so whatever you have should work fine. If your vehicle already has USB, use that. Any phone USB/cigarette lighter or standard AC plug-in charger will work as well.

    EDITED I’m seriously looking for an indoor antenna that covers VHF and UHF frequencies that will receive analog and digital signals. I live in NE Texas in the 75460 zip code close to the Oklahoma border and there are many frequencies that I listen to but I’m limited on outside antennas as I have a electric service close on two sides of my house and neighbors trees on the other part of my house that I can’t cut down so that’s why I’m looking into a inside antenna. Thought about a discone antenna for the attic.

    • @Never_Enough_Outdoors
      @Never_Enough_Outdoors  Před rokem +1

      Yes, for the money, it is still a good scanner. The only newer one Uniden has made is the SDS100. Both are better for different reasons. If I were getting a new one today and had neither, I'd go with the SDS100.

      This unit, like others, takes time to understand how to use and program it. It takes some time playing with the software to understand it. Once you figure it out, it will seem easy every time you program it again. Also, once you program it once, if you’re like me, you’ll rarely need to go in and program it again, u less some of the normal things you listen to change.

    I have set this scanner up by using CZcams, I think I have done everything correctly, But it never hits on and site, I hear nothing. Could it be the antenna? I have ordered a couple of new ones but they have not arrived. Should I be hearing some scans with the original antenna? I do hear the weather but that's all.

    • @Never_Enough_Outdoors
      @Never_Enough_Outdoors  Před rokem

      I’m not an expert and would suggest joining a scanner group on Facebook or asking this question on a forum at radioreference.com. There are a lot of possibilities for this reason, but I doubt the antenna is the issue, unless it’s bad or something. Have you tried using the built in frequencies? You also need to make sure the service type is turned on.

    I have one wouldn't buy again. A good scanner with 1 problem you can not have it on and charge at the same time. Basically you use it till the batteries run down and then it sits there like a rock till it charges or you put other batteries in it.

    I will NEVER buy one of these again. These things are designed by some computer nerd that lives in his mom's basement. Spent almost $500 bucks on this piece of garbage and I can't get it to do a damned thing. I guess it was too much to ask to make it EASY to use? My 20+ year old Radio Shack scanner was at least EASY to use. The design of this thing seems to be to make it as complicated as possible. It's getting returned.

      @@michaela.6381 Did the zip code stuff..zilch. Once again, if it was operator error, they would need and wouldn't be making a fortune off of the programing service. The attraction to the technology is being able to USE it for what they say it will do. The rest of us have real lives, and don't have time to get a technology degree in order to program the thing. I'm sure there are technologies that you have no idea how to operate, yet you find them attractive. I couldn't care less about the "mystery" of something as long as it works.
