- I am proud to announce that Triteia and myself are now ambassadors for RENOGY SOLAR!
When I was shopping for the initial solar set up for Triteia back in 2020 I decided to go with rigid Renogy Solar Panels. There were cheaper panels on the market but all of the reviews I had found for Renogy were positive and I wanted the best I could get.
Those 2 x 100 watt panels kept my old AGM battery bank topped up for over a year of never being plugged into shore power and were still working perfectly when Renogy contacted me about sponsoring us. After knowing and trusting their product I accepted and am proud to now represent Renogy.
Check out their website for your solar panel needs and have a look at all the other great products they offer.

Thanks to the Team at Renogy for the sponsorship of the 2 200watt solar panels and the 3000w inverter! We are very happy to have twice the solar we had before to make sure our batteries stay topped up and happy.

Here is a PDF manual I put together that outlines how I went about building my adjustable solar panel setup : drive.google.com/file/d/1AkX4...
I built my original set up based on the set up on fellow CZcamsr SV Ramble's set up ( • Installing Solar Panel... )

The only part not on that list is the awesome gate / elbows I used which came from here:

*I use this solar **Generater.Systems** at work. The building is 80 years old so there’s not a lot of electrical outlets. I use it for lights, fans, charge phones etc. works great !*
🤔when you live on the dark side of the moon? 🤷🏼♂️
Triteia is becoming a beast.
Renogy was so nice to make you one of their ambassadors. Great job James 👍
Top stuff mate. Who doesn't love a great sponsor. Well done renogy for coming on board. Place the stickers well and before you know it you'll have more companies helping you out. Another awesome video😎
Thanks for your video James! We used a lot of your ideas when we installed our 200 watts on our sailboat. *we also shared a "card" on our video directing folks to you! love watching your adventures :)
Glad some of the ideas helped 👍🏻
Been fulltime Rving last 3 years. Have 100w Renogy suitcase panel. We stay off grid for weeks until be need food or water, never lacking power. Love you vids! Peace
Hi Bruv, I just wanted to say you have one of the coolest channels on YT, I love the content. Congrats on the partnership.
Thank you 🙏🏻
@@SailorJames You're welcome, and I forgot to say I am watching all the way from Cape Town.
Looks like a quality set up great upgrade and the mounting of those panels is better than an arch I think on a boat with a narrower transom. Andy UK
Super cool of Renogy!
Mate! I love your channel!
Thank you for all of your fine work! I learn so much from each and every episode.
All I can suggest is to rig a pair of ohshit lines to each panel in case the bracket fails or comes unscrewed. That second side - if the screw backs-out, it will open to the underside and fall right off.
Edit: Ooohhh...Pure Sine Wave inverter. That Renogy stuff seems really top-notch.
Well done Renogy for recognising how good your videos are! Powering the Trieia forward
Congratulations James on your sponsorships. You're a 'seastar'. Stay well.
Interesting application of clew thimbles:)
Yes, stoked for sure.
We live in a large home in North San Diego. We did our solar ourselves (engineers) and were able to have it ground mounted as we have the space. It made it super easy. We researched and researched and studied '"solar". We discovered Renogy and our entire home runs off Renogy 310Watt panels X 12. They are the best for the money with excellent and consistent quality and you get real customer support as well. We have two of the inverters you have that we use in our garage and shop running off our solar. We have AGM batteries that we will replace with LiFePO when they wear out. We would recommend anyone using solar to go Renogy as the panels are fantastic and they have so much other solar components you need all from the same company.
Awesome video! Thanks for introducing these great products.
Renogy has great looking products.
Nice video. I'll make sure to click through the link you provided so they know who sent me.
Hi James great getting those solar double power. Great stuff. 👍 great videos thanks for the insite.
Your looking great! So happy for your upgrades, sending you well wishes from Florida 😎💕
Glad to see they recognise the good work you've done James.
👏👏👏👏 another rad video!
Nice looking equipment ! Thanks for sharing the info.
Big ups to Renogy! Good on ya lads!
Looking good. Excited to see you venture into the pacific (after some boat work videos of course)
Appreciate you sharing. I like those bigger panels.
Wow aunque somos vecinos y muy hermanos y solo COMBATIMOS en baseball pienso y veo que estas haciendo un trabajo maravilloso en ese Alden 30 felicitaciones.
¡Wow ! Even though we are neighbors and brothers and we only fought in baseball I think and I see that you are doing a wonderful job in that Alden 30 congratulations. I see you from Buenos Aires Argentina.
🇺🇸⚘🇨🇺
I love Renogy....ZERO issues with my setup. I do not have the inverter, so...looking forward to the setup and results.
Heck yeah! 🌞⚡
I'm just here as I research how to recharge my electric inboard and i was NOT expecting the black socks and post-church barbecue slippers at 2:50 lololol. Love it.
Your awsome man. Rt on great vid. Made me look up renogy, totally going that way, cheers.
Oh my sophia just got her new cubic grizzly wood stove in the mail. Stoked to get home and get boaty
Thanks!
I just got a Renogy system and will mount (4) 100 W panels on my 26 ft boat, both fore and aft. Hoping to use your method and hardware, thanks 🙂
So nice man!!
Thumbs up to Renogy for sponsoring you.
Man, getting an air fryer. You're going to be ballin.
Renogy is very good, I had them too (not fortunate enough to be sponsored) on my sailboat.
Now I have a cruiser and looking at solar and I noticed Renogy prices have gone substantially, so I'll see what is affordable.
Thanks, man -- this has convinced me. I'm going to get some solar panels from Renogy. I'm already waiting on my 50a DC-DC charger, so I can charge house and starter battery from the alternator plus the solar (when I get it). I think I'll get some Renogy 100watt compact panels
They are great panels ! 👍🏻
I’ve used several Renogy products, they are a good value. However keep in mind the frames of newer inexpensive solar panels aren’t nearly as rigid as the ones from say thirty years ago, so it’s helpful to stay with smaller units which are relatively stronger. Our schooner had 400 watts total power.
Nice looking panels
Good stuff. I think I'd mount an inverter that cool looking on the wall so I can look at it. Smart of Renergy to sponsor you bro. You have a lot of credibility.
Warning: I bought a cheap $100 induction burner off Amazon. It's junk. It just burns a ring in my pan - only heating in about a 6" diameter circle. I can't even quickly scramble eggs without burning them. So ask around and probably spend a little more money. (The burner is great for boiling water - but that's all.) I'd love to get a knowledgeable recommendation for a good induction burner.
Inverters. I've got two for my gas cars, both claim to be full sine no interference, but they make the mouse and track pads on my MacBook Pros jump all over the place. I can type and with effort move the cursor, but I can't possible draw. And the MacBook doesn't have to be plugged in for this to happen. That would always be my first test with any inverter. The solution is charge up the laptop, then turn off the inverter while doing anything requiring precision. Ideally of course would be no interference. Not sure if there are any inverters without this issue - I suspect there must be. (The best vehicle charging for a MacBook (USB-C), which would work on a boat, is the Belkin 'cigarette lighter' adapter. It's got higher wattage than anything like it and zero interference. I got it from Apple, but I'm not sure if they sell them anymore. )
As a back-up stove I'd get a two burner Coleman, some 1 pound bottles (and the re-fill adapter. Refilling them from a larger tank - on someone else's boat.... is dead simple, quick and safe. (Maybe you want to cook up something stinky outside the cabin.) The thing about Induction in the gallery and a propane stove as a back up, is it's a lot easier to use the Coleman on the back deck, or on the beach than it would be with induction. Fair winds.
Just a quick question, the pan you are using is made for induction right?
@@SailorJames Carbon steel - best pan I've ever owned. I also tried it with a much heavier and thicker cast iron pan. Nope - still the burnt ring. I want to try a better induction burner - but I can't find a clear good recommendation (I haven't put enough effort into it yet.) Also here are very high end induction ranges for kitchens that have been sold for years - so my problem with the cheap burner must not exist in the better units. So my beef is not with the system, it's just that the low end units seem to be a waste of time.
Also, it's an induction coil - it wouldn't be all at all difficult to make it into any shape and area. I might bring my pan and a couple of eggs to the store. Just crack one, mix it up and cover the bottom of the pan - see what the unit does. And if energy is an issue? To boil water I'd now always go electric, a kettle or even that crappy induction. Really fast and efficient.
Super exciting to see you’re upgrading! I’m not sure I’ll ever sail as much as you have but you’re very inspiring. Thanks for sharing all your thoughts and insights with us. Fair winds till next time.
Hello James. Is there a video about the new aft railing?
Thanks for all the interesting videos. Greets from Germany.
The aft railing isn’t new, if you download the PDF in this videos description it shows all the pieces
@@SailorJames I see. Thanks.
Hey James! Does Renogy take any preventative steps to protect the underside wiring and connectors from the harshness of seawater? Safe travels! Excellent video as always and congrats!
They are made for and sealed for this environment. I had zero issues with my last panels
James re those plastic clamping brackets at 5:30.
I think you would be happier with Stainless Steel brackets , they are similar the 360 deg type you used on the leg.
They would totally encircle the 1 inch SS side rail and you could bolt the 2nd part to the Aluminium flat bar on the solar panels.
You should be able to purchase them at any marine chandlery… I think they call them “top slides” or “jaw slides”
I think all Stainless hardware would be much stronger.
Just trying to help…
Keep up the great work!
You can also get rubber lined stainless steel P clips ... Just buy the ones large enough in the eye to go round the rail or tube.
Nice video. Will you put this all together in a one line drawing with equipment ratings? Thanks
I know providing links that could expire is a pain, but could you consider like "Amazon page" or something that lists all the stuff you recommend like "tools", "Solar", "hardware" , "electrical" or something like that. I would like the link or description of your big nutrivet tool you used on the gimble for the oven.
Hey so was wondering what you do when there is bad weather. do you leave the panels up or are you able to drop to the sides of the rails till the weather clears. congrats on the sponsorship as well!
I kept my other panels out in winds above 30+ knots with no issue , if it was forecasted for above 35 I would likely drop them, also I am working on additional braces since these panels are larger but want to make a system that is easy to deploy and unhook to drop them
Awesome more power captain air2 s army out
Your Amazon link doesn't work 😢 congrats on the sponsor tho! 🎉
Nicely done James -, can you attach the remaining 2 on the bow stations for westerly runs in the sun 🌞
I think he has 2 X 200 watt panels.
No, I will just keep my aft panels, I have my two old panels to a young cruising couple who didn’t have solar
@@SailorJames nice, pay it forward 👍
Whats the outside diameter of your rail, and top rail height off the water ? I think I will move my access to the boat foward as yours is. Thank you
Where is the link i can't find it?
With those bigger panels and going to lithium batteries, you won't have twice the power - you'll probably have 4 times as much power.😀
What size and how many batteries are you running?
Do you plan on running a electronic drivetrain like ocean volt etc?
No I won’t be but I think the hybrid systems are pretty cool
@@SailorJames that’s a brilliant idea, and beyond fail safe. Great channel, keep on inspiring brother, perhaps we will cross paths one day, I’m currently saving up for a Alberg 37.
how much are slip fees out in Honlulu?

She's a beaut Clark
Hey my guy! I just binged like ur entire trip to hawaii and I think you're crazy man! Now i want to be crazy too so im curious is there a reccomendation for good types of used sailboats that are cheap and what id have to do to prepare them for this kinda crazy journey xD.... figured if im getting stranded in the middle of the ocean I better do it while im young eh?
All you need is a wind turbine for those cloudy days and night.... power on.
⛵⚓⚓⚓⛵
Big dog! You have a plan if there is excess windage from these new angle wings?!
Yes I mentioned it in the description I believe and in the pdf, either will make a frame or some sort extra armature
If the panels weren't sponsored, what is the upside to going with two 200 watt panels vs. four 100watt panels? More panels need more brackets and wiring but better redundancy if one breaks?
The main set back / limitation for me is simply available space. Two side by side 100watt panels won’t fit on my rail but you are correct about the redundancy benefits
DO NOT use the supplied battery to inverter cables. They are extremely under rated for the current draw and have no gauge or rating written or stamped on insulation. They are clearly too thin. I have 3000W Renogy inverter. I bought one foot (30cm) length 4/0 AWG.
Same goes for other inverters.
Hopefully my kids will be looking at fossil fuels as a useless relic🙏🏼
Not gonna happen
renogy dont care about you they just want your audience for there overpriced products
Bro, I didn’t say they wanted to give me a hug. And their panels are hella affordable 😂
