5 Stages of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) | Know Your Kidneys | AKF

- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is divided into five stages, which are based on eGFR test results and how well your kidneys work to filter waste and extra fluid from your blood. As the stages progress, #KidneyDisease gets worse and your kidneys are less able to work properly. That's why it is important at each stage, to take steps to slow down damage to your kidneys.

I got sick back in 2018… I went to the hospital because I was vomiting & bleeding from my gums… bummmmm doctors tell me my kidneys don’t work & I gotta go on emergency dialysis… for now I am not able to get a transplant. So I been on dialysis for 5yrs & still going. Hopefully one day. I’ll get my life somehow back to Norwalk.
You will be fine soon we all are praying for youuuu
How many times do you do dialysis a week?
Aww I’m praying everyone stays healthy. Please drink water!!!
Ameen
Not tapwater, though. Filter it with a good filter system.
I pray no one get such diseases.
😢 I already found out I have it. But I think I'm still in stage 1, my doc said my kidneys are still functioning. But I go back on the 5th of next month so we will c.
I am stage 3b CKD which I have all of my life. Have not had much symptoms and I am still in good physical health.

I am in stage 3 awell, too much protein in urine, can you give me some tips, thanks
I'm so happy for you!
I have been in and out of hospitals since I was five. I had a mild heart attack . They put me in for a few days. They did all the tests on my heart. They repeatedly made me urinate for them. They told me each time how to do it. I didn't say anything cause it didn't matter. It kept shoeing up bad. They never that I was in stage 2 ckd. Send me to a nephrologist for further checking. No I read ny paper work and found out. I talked to my doctor cause my tests had been coming back showing it. He said, yes, I'm going to check them once more, then set you up with a nephrologist. I said okay...
Went the nurse practitioner told me I was in stage three and there was no cure.
I got down once to 29 but got them back up. Now their headed back down. I have already lost one cousin, a grandma, an aunt, my dad had kidney cancer
@@pammccombs4772 Im sorry but I can't understand any of what you've typed.
Same here but just diagnosed. Only on my bloodwork. Nothing wrong w urine. Zero symptoms. Having a kidney US later this month and all kinds of blood tests. Nephrologist put me on Jardience 10mg but having a hard time getting insurance to pay so I haven't started yet.
Thanks for clear and concise information
Nice video sir. Very informative and helping for common people also patients. Good job Dr. Sahib
I had around 2 years of headache where doctors ignored and sent me home every time I visited. But the new doctor looked at my blood pressure it was high. After a month, they say that I have shrinking kidneys and hypertension. Kidney doctor scolded me that I had been ignoring my headache in years, and it caused me that, but he seemed to doubt when I said the truth that doctors send me home every time I visit. After years, they say that I have chronic kidney disease at stage 3, and it lasted years. Now I get feeling pain in my back every day in weeks.
This is really well animated.
my sister has CKD (has only half of a kidney), she's young and healthy but i still worry, and shes very stubborn about drinking water. Best I can do for now is try to encourage her and educate myself, so thank you!

Mhh hmm nope life just begun. Much Love ❤️ paige
Limiting salt intake, carbonated colored drinks, too much protein consumption & drinking lots of water will minimize kidney disease. Also kidney cleansing supplements is helpful.
Also. avoid bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, avocados, oranges, orange juice, whole wheat bread and brown rice, all of which are high in potassium.
Thanks to effective herbal supplement and diet tips of DR.UWENBOHERBALHOME youtube channel were I completely got rid of my chronic Bad breath (halitosis/mouth smell) from the throat and stage 2b CKD naturally.. I no longer feel uncomfortable when talking to friends and family..all my stage 2b CKD symptoms are gone including pains and back pains, foamy and smelly urine, frequently urination, itching skin, fatigue. .thank you once again for giving me my social life back DR.UWENBOHERBALHOME you channel.😢🙏🙏
@@cyber4052 In most cases yes but not always, I happen to have stage 3-4 CKD with low potassium.
@bossofthisgym6842 After I stopped eating all those high potassium foods, my GFR went from 51 to 81.

Hmmm...I lost my husband last year to end stage . We learned there was only 4 stages not 5. When I specifically asked about a stage 5 we were told there was none. Is this new?
I'm in my mid-60's. My Nephrologist says I have early stage 5. In the three months since diagnosis, I have no symptoms other than what they show on my blood tests. They have not done a urine test. My doctor has mentioned dialysis at some point, but none so far. I am on no medications for anything. I feel great, no nausea, no swelling, no dehydration or itchy skin, lots of energy and decent appetite. I have radically changed my diet and actually feel better than I have in years. My kidney function has gone from 12% to 16 to 18%. Will be tested again this coming week. I hope it looks improved, but all of the information is confusing. I'm wondering if my kidneys are as damaged as I've been told and maybe their tests are inaccurate.
Hopefully inaccurate. At stage 5 you NEED dialysis and no way would they put that off. My good friend was on dialysis and she was on the transplant list. She finally got a kidney and pancreas? From a cadaver donor. I'm in stage 3 and on bp meds and cholesterol meds because it can cause a heart attack or so doctor said. I'm not massively over weight....maybe 15 pounds but that started with the swelling and I also have a knee issue that prevents me from getting out and walking like I did a year ago. I know they say in stages 3-5 it doesn't get better. Can maintain it but not reverse it. Praying they got yours wrong and it's still at an early stage.
Me too🥺
I've now gone from stage 5 to stage 4. Go figure. Still feel great. Best to you.@@dontwakethedeadp.jankey9592
I went on dialysis 3 sessions whilst l was in hospital. My G F R count 18. Since comming out of hospital l eat certain foods which helps the kidney in getting of some of toxins. Walking as exercise is beneficial. My G F R is now 35. Hope your reading was incorrect. God bless you. Take care 😊
Improved to 20% on this last test. Still feel great. The treadmill is helping me to lose weight and build more strength.
I'm a donor B+
You a hero
This past September (2023) I seen a new doctor after mine retired. First appointment I talked about issues I'd been having. They did blood tests qnd a week later called me to inform me I am at Stage 3 CKD and they were functioning at about 50%. Ok so I am freakinf out and in tears. The lady on phone couldn't answer my questions. She said change your diet and no more NSAID pain relievers. Change my diet from what to what? I didnt really use NSAIDS. Till this day January 2024 they haven't helped explain diet. I have friends that have been more helpful. I refuse to go back to that doctor. Why wasnt I sent to a kidney specialist? Put in touch with a dietician or atleast given an idea what to avoid? Online doesnt help as each site says something different. I'm tired, scared....have absolutely no bladder control and my kids are bugging me. I see a new doctor in April. My issue is...Why wasnt this caught in one of the first two stages qhen I complained about swelling and such? I am almost 49 but feel 79. There has to be a doctor that truly cares somewhere.
Wow that’s terrible!! I’ve only had one functioning kidney my whole life and everything was fine until I had extremely high blood pressure only being in my early 20s they decided to do labs and saw that I’m in stage 2 CKD and referred me to a nephrologist. I’m so sorry your concerns weren’t taken seriously!
@madisoncrutchfield650 that sucks I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry that happened to you, and I would like to know why they didn't send you to a specialist to. Bcz on top of having ckd I have an autoimmune disease called as, and she referred me right away to a kidney specialist, but I had to get a kidney biopsy to diagnose mine. 😢 I would definitely talk to your doctor to get you referred so they can start managing it.
I have stage 3 gfr of 59

my doctor told me that everybody as at least stage 1 kidney disease
“Chronic kidney disease is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood as well as they should. It’s a progressive condition that affects over 10% of the general population worldwide.
Early detection and management are crucial to slow the progression of CKD and reduce its impact on overall health. Here are some oral complications associated with chronic kidney disease:
1. Dry Mouth (Xerostomia): Reduced kidney function can lead to an electrolyte imbalance, affecting salivary gland function and causing dry mouth, which increases the risk of oral issues.
2. Gum Bleeding: The accumulation of waste products in the bloodstream (uremia) can impact blood clotting, making gums more susceptible to bleeding.
3. Metallic Taste: CKD patients often take medications that can cause side effects like gum bleeding or a metallic taste.
4. Poor Oral Hygiene: CKD can lead to nutrient deficiencies, such as vitamin K, which is essential for blood clotting and maintaining oral health. Fluid restrictions and dietary limitations in CKD patients can affect dental hygiene, increasing the risk of oral issues.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has no definitive cure, but it is manageable. Treatment aims to alleviate symptoms and halt the progression of the disease. The primary focus is on lifestyle adjustments to support overall health and well-being.
1. Close Monitoring: Regular dental check-ups are essential. Dentists should be informed of the patient’s CKD stage and medications.
2. Oral Hygiene: Emphasize essential oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and antimicrobial rinses to prevent gum disease and tooth decay.
3. Salivary Stimulants: Manage dry mouth (xerostomia) with salivary stimulants or artificial saliva to alleviate discomfort and decrease the risk of dental issues.
4. Blood Pressure Control: Ensure blood pressure is well-controlled during dental procedures, as hypertension is common in CKD patients.
5. Infection Control: Dentists should pay special attention to infection prevention. CKD can weaken the immune system, making patients more susceptible to oral infections.
6. Bleeding Risks: CKD can affect blood clotting, so careful monitoring during procedures to control bleeding is vital.
7. Patient Education: Educate CKD patients on the importance of maintaining good oral health and its relationship to overall well-being.”
