  • If your heated grips are broken on your BMW R1200 (or other model like F800) replacement can be very costly. In this video we will show you how to fix them yourself for virtually free. At the same time we will replace the worn rubber grips with new for a low price.

That was enlightening, and educational. It looks like I may have a struggle repairing the grip on my F800GT.
Personally I didn't like the robotic voice but then again I can't even order a beer in Dutch, so it has it uses.

Hey, great video! After about 50.000km my left heating failed. I measured the electrical resistance of the grip heating, but it was >20MOhm. Then I ordered 2 new rubber grips and cut the old one off.
It was difficult to find the failure, because you could not really see the cut in the copper wire. But in the end I could fix it by resoldering the cut and also the connection to the black/yellow cable had to be resoldered. Now it works fine again and saved me about 100 EUR!. Thanks!

Just fixed my heated grips on my f800gs. Didn't need to take the grips off the handlebars or disassemble anything. Just cut the old rubbers off, fix the broken tracks and slide new rubbers on.

Thank you. I have just fixed my left one. It had cracks on almost every corner you have showed. The grip was also split so I fixed the cracks and changed the grip at the same time. I checked the right side but it did not have any cracks. So, just put on the new grip.

It may not be the same type of heated grip on your bike, I have a 1200 GS LC and it a single wire wound around the bar not like the one in this video.

Wow - a serious production - loved the music - what should the resistance measure at - thinking of wrapping a resistance wire around the old one ??

Great video! But I have a different issue. I have a 2013 GSW with the same red/yellow-black connector for the heated handgrip. But in replacing the failed multifunction switch with a new one, I find no tabs to remove the plug and nowhere to plug the connector back in on the new switch. Any thoughts on this?

How about if the heat level is there, but its too low...I have after market Koso heated grips, and I would like to see if it can be fixed before I throw it in the bin ...nice vid

You should put a multimeter set to resistance on each grip to see if they are the same. Throttle grip is usually hotter as the handlebar on the left side acts as a heatsink

why did you damage the rubber on the handle? after all, it pulls down in 10 seconds, just inject WD-40 under the rubber and you can easily remove the rubber. This way you threw a few dollars down the drain.

It's bonded on at both ends to prevent water ingress, so you have to cut it off. You should re-glue both ends after fitting new grips to prevent water getting into the heating element. 👍
