Im currently not using an inverter as of yet for my 12 volt setup but using solar to keep batteries charged. Everything is connected and working great with smartshunt but how do i change the AC loads on the gx touch to blank to show nothing like in your video. I dont want to see them if im not using them. Thanks
thank you as I am a complete newbie and these are the questions I will have . thank you for your input
Thank you Nate !!! Why not replace the BMV712 with a smart shunt ??
Thanks for sharing, Cerbo GX is next on my to do list.
All the best, David 👍
Excellent video. I wasnt aware I could change my multiplus functionality from the monitor. Learned something. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful. Cheers!
My wish would be a step-by-step instruction on how to desplay ROOVI temp. sensor data on the pages of the Cerbo.
Yes! another nice Sunday video. Thanks
You bet! Thanks for watching!
Not to forget guimods, as alway well explained Nate🇦🇺🤙
Thanks! Definitely want to make some videos about that in the future once we get these 'basics' published. What features would you like to see covered?
@@EXPLORISTlife Modification of the pages and display of add-on equipment, such as level sensors, temp. sensors, etc.
I will be installing a mini split HVAC system in the future so I want as much power as possible
Thanks Nate and I'm betting the owner of that Truck/Camper is quite excited about that upgrade.
I think so! 🤣 It's also kinda nice because I can add their system to my VRM portal and check in on the system and see how it's working once they've left!
@@EXPLORISTlife Oh man, that's icing on the cake!
interesting have learnt loads from your vlogs thank you
Great to the point video as always... Any way to make Relay 2 on the Cerbo react to SOC from a smart shunt? (like the generator relay 1)
Great job as usual!
Thank you! Cheers!
Can you connect a renogy 50 dc/dc charger with solar regulator MPPT Rj connection into a Cerbo VE port successfully, or does it only read Victron connections?
That's my question too....have you found an answer?
Not at present! I am only in planning mode. But I would ask some local Victron dealer where I buy my inverter from the same question. There is a post on here immediately below ours from Exploristlife trying to get me to buy their cables etc., So I think the answer is yes (but I would 'pick a couple of more brains' before I finally acted on it)! @@argi0505 🙃😊
Not sure you would get an answer here when they use completely Victron only components.
I would like to know this too. When you are Victron DCDC AND another MPPT, communication cables start getting expensive.
It won’t work natively, no. The OS that the Cerbo GX operates on, though, is open source, so if you have the hardware and software development skills coupled with a couple hundred (thousand?) hours to throw at it, anything is possible.
Is there a way to change to a 12-hour system instead of the 24-hour one?
Can I power the Cerbo GX via 12v DC panel? Or has to be via bus bar? For context Im trying to overcome the touch 70 hdmi cable length issue
I was not so lucky with an install on a catamaran.
- I wanted to connect to the board wifi - but it showed many networks as the harbors network some 100m away but not the board network 5m away. By the way, I updated the Cerbo with the harbor's network.
- The bluetooth got steady real quick. Couldn't connect my mobile with victron app.
-----
Nate, I could not control any MPPT - are they not controlled by the Cerbo? They are all listed fine but only displayed not any active control.
Can l use a cerbo cx as a timer to switch between inverter power and grid power
I have the following installed. Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 Charge Controller with a smart shunt. I want to add a Color Control Center not the Cerbo GX. Do I need a victron inverter charger in order for the Control center to display what my system is doing properly? I want to be able to see what is going on without the use of bluetooth all the time. Any suggestions?
Thanks Nate! Do you use DVCC - Distributed Voltage and Current Control? Is that something you could talk about in a video?
Agreed. With two mppts and a bmv, dvcc is almost a must.
Informative video as always. I am currently sourcing a few Victron items for my build. I have 3 big solar panels of 540W each. I want to have an MPPT for each panel. In the video you have 2 MPPTs plus the battery monitor. Will I be able to plug in the 3 MPPTs plus the Lynx Shunt into the Cerbo ? Thanks
You will need the ve direct to usb adapter for the 4th device and it can plug into one of the two unused USB ports.
Great video! I have BMV-712 and trying to retrofit this system. Since the little battery readout is redundant with the screen, is there a way to wire the BMV-712 shunt directly to the Cerbo and bypass the readout? Thanks!
Thanks! Nope. The only VE.Direct port on the BMV-712 is on the readout. Just tuck that away somewhere and connect the cerbo.
You mentioned it was a choice to set the screen up for motor home, but then never came back and showed what that changed
I'm a trucker and I love my CERBO and touch 50. I NEED someone to install a Multilplus in my RV. I can't find anyone.

Hello Nate.
1. Do the components need a direct connect to the cerbo gx or can they be connected via Bluetooth?
2. What if you have 3 mppt solar chargers and an orion dc-dc charger? Where to connect?
I have used a ve direct to usb cable to add the extra Mppt I have for a solar blanket, plugged into cerbo usb port
@@TRAVISGOLDIE Thanks for your reply. So even though all components support Bluetooth it still requires the purchase of additional cabling? Odd that the components can link together on a network via Bluetooth but not the cerbo gx
@@Tom52540 cables are 99.99999% going to stay connected, Bluetooth while great isn’t assured to. To get the real power from a cerbo you want all the data all the time
@@TRAVISGOLDIE But all components are not necessarily in close proximity. So can the cerbo gx be installed and functional without the cables?
@@Tom52540 no i dont think so v
Great video! I'm getting ready to purchase an integrated system for my 30A toy hauler from Battleborn, watching many of your videos right now. Two questions for you about this: (1) Victron says it comes with a 2 meter data cable. The ideal place for my display is more than 2 meters from where my Cerbo will be. Can a longer cord be purchased? Any outer limits on distance with a corded connection? (2) Right now Battleborn is saying I don't need the BMV712 with the Multiplus system and Cerbo, so they are planning to include the 500A Victron Smart Shunt to save a few $. Is there any loss of functionality going with the smart shunt with Cerbo, versus the BMV712? Thank you!
1: You should put your cerbo within 2m of your screen and then run the data cables from the components to the cerbo. Extending the HDMI cable has a pretty high failure rate just based on our tech support inquiries and our own experience.
2: With the Cerbo, a smartshunt is generally used in place of the BMV-712, yes, because the cerbo is the screen; making the BMV screen obsolete. This is also how we have our wiring kits set up in our store as well.
Appreciate the quick response. I’m planning to buy a few of your components to go along with what Battleborn is supplying and will call when you’re open with a few additional questions.
should I put a fuse to keep my cerbo from getting fried?
oops, it comes with an inline fuse on the positive power cable.
Why is there nothing of note in the red/orange box in the upper left corner? Seems like it is not there just for looks or to fill a blank spot. Isn't it to monitor the AC, Alternating Current, system and if yes, how do you set that up?
That will automatically display data if you are connected to shore power.
@@silvanocometta9760 nope, it does not.
@@larrytillick952 Could it be that your Multiplus inverter charger is switched off?
@@silvanocometta9760 Nope, not that either.
Has the Cerbo GX been replaced by the VE Ekgrano GX? Do you have a video on it?
We will have a video coming out about it soon. But no... the Cerbo is not being replaced by the Ekrano. The Ekrano is replacing the old Color Control GX. Connecting a Ekrano will be the same as the cerbo in this video, though.
@@EXPLORISTlife thank you.
Will it still work without the multi plus installed
The cerbo will indeed function without a multiplus; just without the inverter/charger function.
Question how long can the cable be max length to the gx70 screen
The HDMI/USB from the screen to the Cerbo GX should not be extended; and that one is about 6'. Instead, you'd mount the Cerbo close to the screen, then run the Data cables, which come in 30ft lengths, to the cerbo.
@@EXPLORISTlife thankyou , as I'm needing to have screen 25 feet away. Do you have pic of this 30 foot cable install. I'm slowly changing over to victron from Schneider.
It's simply 30ft VE.Direct and RJ 45 cables from the components to Cerbo instead of the 10ft ones shown in this video.
Adding GUI mods, Ruuvi tags, Generator start/stop, tank levels.... You just scratched the surface of what the Cerbo GX can do
Perfect! That means the video lived up to the title of 'Cerbo Basics' and you got exactly what you came for. 😂👍
Have you ever done a build in a class C?
Stay tuned! 😉
