TRIP REPORT | Iberia - A340 600 - Madrid (MAD) to New York (JFK) | Premium Economy

On April 19, I flew Iberia in Premium Economy on one of their aging A340-600s from Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Iberia's premium economy cabin is in a 2-3-2 configuration. The overall experience was quite mediocre, but nothing was extremely bad.

That A340 looked immaculate for it's age! I've never been on one but it looked like a great ride. I'll have to hurry before they are all replaced!
I actually thought my a340 was from 2010 on my iberia flight while was on 2004 😁

It's been awhile since i have flown Iberia - frequent flier in the 70's, 80's. One of the things that i do recall about them was on their transatlantic flights, prior to departure, they would walk around with a tray of candies. It was to help with the change in air pressure?
They would also give a red rose to the female passengers in first - nice touch.
MAD airport is great. Terminal 4 is just amazing, looks great, and walking through it is mesmerizing. Very nice airport for a very nice city. If you have never been to Madrid, you are missing a great city

I was fortunate enough to make that flight in June 2018 on that very same 340, seat 11D. I was impressed with how clean the airplane was despite its age. Service and food was excellent.
I am impressed with the take-off run speed, the airbus really enjoying her slowly lift-off 😙
Madrid Airport is certainly one of the most beautiful airports around

I got to fly Virgin’s A340-600 from ATL to LHR a few years back, and it was stunning! I was fortunate enough to fly upper class, and the service was impeccable and the plane was even better! Coming from an airbus hater, the A340 is my favorite airbus. Great video btw
5:36 those are called k-loaders (no clue why) they load/unload the cargo in cargo bins or palates. Top peice raises up to cargo door then the cargo rolls on the bottom peice that will lift up and be loaded/unloaded. Just a friendly bit of knowledge for ya.
Recently took Iberia to Madrid and Roma, probably the airline with the best economy service!

I have flown on Iberia's A340s a couple of Times LAX-MAD round trip and once MUC-LAX with Luftansa. Iberia's A340s felt older and tired but their crew was sooo chill I actually enjoyed my trips with them. with Luftansa the cabin felt newer and the plane felt spacious but I look forward to the A350s.

9:50 no ones gonna talk about them WiFi prices wow, 39.99 for 50mb is ridiculous. On emirates for you get 500mb for a very reasonable price and decent speed

Great to see the Qantas 787 that does the Jfk lax ( then Bne) link connecting with the A380 flights to Syd and Mel. I’ve flown a lot through Spain. So strange that they form a queue to board so long before actual boarding. As if the plane might leave with out them. Great video as always although the trademark toilet bowl shot is unusual.

Ive flown a couple of times from nyc to madrid but ive never actually visited madrid i always went to madrid for a layover to take another plane to portugal since it was cheapier than flying directly from nyc to portugal.Terminal 4 is so beautiful but terminal 1-3 they need to update them as well they look run down.

I flew on a 340-600 under Lufthansa, I liked that the toilets were downstairs. That poor person right next to the door of the toilet ewww-smells.

How did the recline of your seat (14L) compare to the other which did not have a bulkhead behind them? I've read that it might be restricted, but it looks fine to me.

As you were settling into your seat area,I noticed a fellow avgeek in the row directly in front of you.The -600 series' engines,have always loved their sound on takeoff--interesting that Iberia has a gate at the BA terminal at JFK,it would make sense since both carriers are members of the oneworld alliance--during your lavatory tour,thought it amusing that you are thousands of miles from home,flying on a Spanish airline yet wearing clothing that displays 'Montana'. How did you get home from JFK?

The meals looked very mediocre but the A340 cabin seemed quite impressive.

Great trip report! To me Iberia doesn't excel in any aspect but have good fares. For Premium Economy the seat should recline more!

You should fly Norwegian Air Shuttle from Newburgh to Dublin while it's being operated by an Airbus A330 from Evelop Airlines because the Boeing 737 MAX is grounded.

I was supposed to be flying on an A340 on this very day last year, but at the last moment, Virgin Atlantic changed the plane to an A330. Still so disappointed about that
I got lucky. Back in 2016, I was going to Dubai and they switched the plane from an A330 to an A340. G-VYOU. What a great plane. On the way back I got an A330, G-VSXY, so I got to compare both. The Upper Class cabin I think is nicer on the A330 personally. Shame they didn't put that on the 787.
Iberia's PE not exactly like Singapore Airlines Premium Economy. Seems to me economy would have been just as nice.

Good trip report but Iberia’s PE product doesn’t really look that great... why can’t other airlines make more of an effort like Virgin Atlantic / Singapore Airlines type Premium Economy?
