    Very cool. Today is December 2, 2021. Their website says on the front page that new orders placed today are expected to ship in December, but their order page says they expect to ship next year. Kinda confusing. I'm considering it though - it looks really nice, and I wouldn't have known about it if you hadn't made the video. Thanks!

    Many backers from the initial Kickstarter three and a half years ago still haven't received their Wiphones. Supposedly the project is sending phones to testers first but even those that indicated in a survey from 2019 that they would like to test still have reported spotty fulfillment. As an initial backer of this project, if they're actively delivering web orders before even completing nearly four year old orders, that's really annoying. (Yes, I'm still waiting for my basic WiPhone and Lora 915 daughterboard after all this time, and have reached out to the project lead.)

    • @JoseBriones
      @JoseBriones  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for that context. I hope they are able to send more units soon.

      @@JoseBriones It's a really interesting project, and I've been looking forward to integrating my WiPhone into a Meshtastic Lora network if and when it arrives. It's understandable with covid/etc affecting the supply chain, to expect some delays. What's frustrating is to hear about new web orders well after the initial backing period being sent out after some initial backers have waited years for nothing.

    Hi, this is pretty cool. What would be the advantate of this phone in fromt of using a simple tablet for wifi calls over VOIP apps? Is it that the apps are not used? What devices can receive calls from WiPhone?

    • @intensecutn
      @intensecutn Před rokem

      For one, you don't have some big corporattion tracking everything you do and everywhere you go. Also much longer battery life. Not sure if you were around for the old Nokia days but those phones would last for days on a single charge.
      I'm sure it is much more durable, and much, much cheaper and easier to replace parts yourself.
      Going beyond VoIP, it's also a development board, so you could attach all kinds of sensors to it (think temperature, humidity, air pressure, UV detection, the list is almost infinite) You could quite literally turn it into a robot if you wanted.

    I'm trying to understand how this phone is "off-grid"... 🙋‍♂
    If it still uses a VOIP or SIP connection, couldn't your name be traced through that service/connection provider, just as a normal mobile service provider would have your personal information? 🤔
