How can you learn to play trumpet better than anyone else? Hopefully you're not the type of trumpet student that says "I hate practicing my instrument."
So to get really good on trumpet and we all know the trumpet section has the best players, you're going to have to learn how to find a good trumpet teacher.
    Think that's so easy?
I guess the real question is how much do trumpet lessons cost and are
    the lessons worth it?
First off don't get scammed. When you see the phrase online "free trumpet lessons" your spidey sense oughta be tingling.
Undoubtedly you've listen to awesome trumpet players that actually play high notes that sound good. You've also heard some trumpet players that sound like a broken chain saw in the upper register.
Maybe you have thought to yourself and wondered if trumpet players actually have a day job or do they only play full-time or do they play trumpet and also teach trumpet at the same time throughout the day?
Each individual player is different but I would say it's a combination of the above. Some trumpet players also have a spouse working the typical nine-to-five day job. It is the spouse that brings home the bacon and pays most of the bills leaving our professional trumpet player somewhat unburdened.
What if you want to make first trumpet chair in your band but your band director hates you and your trumpet playing?
I say buckle down, practice twice as much and take twice as many trumpet lessons to prove your band director wrong when the appropriate time warrants it!

Really interesting and informative - when arching the tongue with the tip behind the bottom teeth how does this affect tongueing e.g. double or triple tongueing towards high C? Thanks very much.

Hey Kurt! Thanks for sharing your wisdom. When you roll in are you wrapping your chops over the teeth or tucking them up front?

Yep this is what Stevens/Costello was trying to tell us. I JUST figured this out. its the only way to play high notes. if a player disagrees then he just naturally figured it out and doesn't know what he is doing. There used to be a trumpet guild, that guarded this secret to clarino register on natural trumpet. problem is my lip swells due to the vibration especially on the upper lip. do you roll out in the lower register? I am trying to keep the same embouchure for both if possible.

So when focusing on tongue arch, I should think of it as more of moving my jaw than actually just moving the tongue?
