  • SYOSSET, NY - Firefighters battled a large fire fueled by compressed natural gas involving multiple garbage trucks in the Town of Oyster Bay’s Syosset Highway yard on Tuesday evening.
At 4:50PM, multiple fire departments responded to 150 Miller Place, Syosset, NY 11791 after a 911 call was placed reporting a garbage truck on fire in the rear yard. The fire quickly engulfed the garbage truck and sent a column of thick black smoke into the air.
Due to the garbage truck’s compressed natural gas tank rupturing, flames shot as high as 20 feet into the air. The intensity of the fire began to increase and spread to other fire trucks parked in close proximity.
Nassau County Police officers and the Town of Oyster Bay’s Public Safety Department could be seen assisting the fire department with stretching fire hoses. The Bethpage, Hicksville, and Jericho Fire Departments all responded to the scene to battle the fire.
A total of four trucks were destroyed as a result of the blaze.
According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire is not deemed to be suspicious in nature. Officials say that the fire was caused by a mechanical issue in the engine compartment.

When I lived in LA we had one of our metro buses go up in flames. It was compressed gas too so it was exactly like this shooting out from all sides

It looks like they are using the left side, counter-clockwise, chase the fire around the lot method.
