💑 About Hercules Candy
Hercules Candy has been on Steve’s side of the family since 1910(ish). When he took over in the 70’s, he anticipated after 10 years of hard work, he could move the business out of the basement and into a real storefront. Unfortunately, it took until 2018 for that to happen, but hey at least it happened! Steve and Terry own the shop, Craig (the social media manager) is their son, Cara (wrapper and shipper extraordinaire who is poised to take over the shop one day) is their daughter and Leah (who doesn’t love being on camera and is very elusive) is their oldest daughter. My order of this came in today and this hit the exact burn level I was looking for, not on fire just a nice long slow burn with some orange to liven things up. Well done!! For everyone else if your go to is hot salsa, if habanero sauces don’t scare you I think you’ll like this

It takes strength and wisdom to allow someone to make mistakes while you watch. Both of them, by the end of the pulling, had a great rhythm going! Learning is so much fun 😁

I'm with Julia (Julie?) about wanting absolutely nothing to do with the idea of this candy and being as far away from the powder going into the candy as possible. I did it at work with our ghost pepper extract crap. I was as far from that bottle and whatever they were using it in as I could possibly get. Terrified of that stuff. Although there was one time that someone challenged the kitchen to make the spiciest wings (I was the only linecook on so no one else to do it) they could. Having a spice baby trying to make something spicy doesn’t go great but I was going to use that stuff but couldn’t find it! The one time I was sad that it wasn’t around 😂

Curious what the dyes taste like. Also curious how long your tongue will be dyed. I imagine they are virtually tasteless, to avoid flavoring the candy. I bet they color your tongue for a few days. If you have already answered this I am sorry I missed the question and answer. The dying part could be a fun poll question, if anyone is brave enough to try it.
Red and sometimes purple used to taste horrible. Where I used to work, even some of the customers caught on to this and would request airbrushed borders on their cakes if they were going to be made in these colors (even the airbrush was bad but no where near as awful as the gel-paste or liquid paste tasted)
One would think that the sugar in icings along with the pinch of salt would counter the bitterness but it didn't... I'm unsure as to how much the added flavorings cover the taste of the coloring.
*I saw a video on a crochet channel where they were asking about a label saying "new less-flavor red" or something like that... So I guess they've improved somewhat
I think Hercules signature shape is a square hard candy.
Would it help if you put the hot powder on the table then poured the candy on top or if you mix the powder with the coloring in a cup with plastic wrap over it and poke a hole in the plastic wrap with a stick to stir it and both of those ways should minimize how much of the powder gets into the air because it will be contained/wet from the candy/coloring. It won’t protect you completely but it should help a lot. Pouring it over the candy like that shakes thousands of the tiny powder specks into the air and they settle everywhere. I am a nurse at a prison and when an inmate is sprayed with the pepper spray we find it everywhere and randomly inhale a particle or two for days after they’re sprayed because the particle gets jostled back into the air to be inhaled/touched by some poor unsuspecting passerby so it’s not unusual to have someone randomly start hacking up a lung followed by some form of “when did they spray someone in here?” or “I guess someone got sprayed recently

Capsaicin is soluble in oil, niot in water. To relief the spicy in your mouth, drink whole fat milk. Water based drinks do not help.
It's best not to drink. Fluids just spread the problem.

On this video i was nervous when seeing anyone handling food or in this case candy when their hair is all messy and hanging out all over the place. If on a video messy hair is around making edible things is not giving a good vibe. I really appreciate Cara in how she has her hair in a tight well groomed braid however Julia's hair in this video is all messy, hanging out and looks all over the place. On the taste test i noticed even Leah had her hair up in a tidy manner, then i seen the other girl, cannot remember her name walk in and at the end of the video sitting down in the front and her hair was in a messy loose pony tail. I am now thinking that fly away hair would be almost impossible to not stick anyplace because the majority of products are sticky in the back being made with, sugars and chocolates and in the front handling the products before being packaged. I did not think of myself a really picky person but for some reason on this video i seemed to have noticed all the hair and messy way it was kept. I will give a shout out on previous videos when the men actually were wearing hair nets and they had short hair but they were not wearing a hat, so maybe that is why. On another note, I unfortunately had to cancel an order after Terry took the time to email and ask me if i was sure i still wanted my order because of the temperature and i felt really dumb because i did not even think of the temperature when i ordered and it was 111 in Arizona and was getting hotter. Today it got to 115 degrees I think or maybe hotter. We learn early being a native of Avondale Arizona in that we stay indoors until night time and then go out at night if possible or we do all errands by 11am the latest. Lol. I have to wait until Nov or Dec to order the hard candy i wanted 😢 but the candy will be worth the wait. I don't think i will ever be able to order chocolates though only hard candy, unless a miricle happens in my part of Arizona and we can get below 50's during the day in the winter. Maybe winter 2023 will be my year. Thank you for the videos, I love watching them. I really appreciated the video where Steve did the at home video to show how to melt chocolate and make bark and potato chips and pretzels dipped in chocolate. I did not even think that it could be done at home and well be trying soon. I am trying to find a recipe on the ratio for hard candy and recommendations on the flavoring and coloring so i can attempt to make hard candy at home. If i cannot order from Hercules until Winter i will not order from anyplace else and will try and make it to satisfy my craving until then. Any suggestions wills be greatly appreciated and a gone video on making hard candy and DIY tips would be very much greatly appreciated if possible, thank you Craig for all that you do and contribute. .
