I'm a displaced city boy from Appalachian parents, so I may be biased, but I have to relate at least one story to sum it up: Years ago, my wife, son, and I were driving home from having our yearly Thanksgiving with her side of the family in Indiana. The night was clear, and we were amazed by all the stars that just aren't visible in towns. We pulled off a backroad between woods and cornfields just to get out and look up at God's majesty in the night sky. We would never have felt safe doing this in the city, even if stargazing was possible there. There were no houses nearby, and only an occasional vehicle on the roads. The first one we saw, an old pickup, pulled alongside us and asked if we had car trouble and needed help. We told him what we were doing and he waved and left. A few minutes later, another stopped to help. If we hadn't been ready to go, probably half the county would've tried to help us. That's country people.

As a Hispanic man I’ve lived in the country parts of south Florida , Loxahatchee , Polk county , live oak all southern country and I loved it . Respect and love your country and no one ever bothers you and always a tight community 🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

@Something-Something-Dark-Side no. It leads them to frustration and gun violence. Stop following the religions and we can make a better nation. They all have different gods. Let them fight. I hate all religions and southern ignorance

Lived in eastern Kentucky as a teenager. One thing you learn there for sure is respect, and how to deal with those who don't have any. With that education, I moved to Pennsylvania and became a bouncer. Working the bar late at night was home sweet home.
Tell us some bouncer stories about how you deal with lowlifes who start shit
I’ve been to the Appalachian area before.. it is so beautiful and the people are so friendly.. God bless u all
Still way better than California, Portland, Chicago, And Baltimore.
Edit: I feel like I over generalized California. Although the State politicians are a bit crazy for my liking, I should have specified San Fran Shithole and LA as the two main cities to avoid. Also adding Philadelphia to my list. Detroit actually not all that bad these days compared to those so it’s not on my list.
There are schools specifically high schools in WV that have physical violence everyday. I have friend that teaches in the Baltimore area and doesn’t see even see physical violence often from middle school students. My friend has not once been targeted in Chicago even with criminal parents while she was targeted in WV over while wearing a Jewish shirt in a very Christian/catholic town. Violence at her public high school in Chicago was low. It can depend overall.

@@ConsciousOne369 I’ve been to 3 out of 4 places on the list. I have friend that went to k-8 schooling in Oregon with family still there. Have you even been to WV at all? There are wonderful people but they do face many issues that places you listed don’t typically face.
@@xwrtk how was she targeted and what happened?
@@xwrtk Chicago has a bad reputation because of the SouthSide, most of the city is relatively safe. Although in the past couple years crime has been rising in other parts of Chicago, unfortunately. Hopefully their new mayor can help a bit..
Best people in the world. ❤
The young man nailed it! I used to think I was religious. As I grew older, I realized that I was a hypocrite. Now, I worship God in my own way. I've been through too much to know that God is not vengeful. He is loving and kind and will not give up on us! No matter what.
These people are so humble and honest.
Distant at first, but once your around them- they will treat you like family,in everyway !
From can see to can't see, i'm always ate up with the warmness of you'ns folks over yonder. Appalachian rules!
Take me home, Country roads. Its the real deal.

One of the key word is Family! Every thing else falls into place.

@@Perfectly-Imperfect where at in Southern WV? I was born and raised in Oceana, down in Wyoming County. I'm pretty sure these people are very close to this area judging by the accent. No hate at all; this place is home.

You can just see the kindness, family and respect come out of them. I love the guy with the beard. Seems like a great fun guy to have a beer with.
Their earnestness is quite endearing.
Reminds me of my family In Louisiana. Good people
West virginia, Ohio, virginia, Kentucky. Pennsylvania. They are all great. Not all people act like that but the closer you get to the mountains the more southern you get.
I'm a displaced city boy from Appalachian parents, so I may be biased, but I have to relate at least one story to sum it up:
Years ago, my wife, son, and I were driving home from having our yearly Thanksgiving with her side of the family in Indiana.
They aren't quick to accept new folks but are always nice to everyone. These people may not seem highly educated and are almost always smarter than 90 percent of Americans.
Same in Central PA, mostly in the rural areas. Small towns used to be safe but not anymore..
If you do not accept "New folks" but are "Always nice" means they're fake?
@@woodyhayes7402 There's a difference between "aren't quick to accept" and " do not accept", but something tells me that's beyond your cognitive ability.
@@woodyhayes7402 Or maybe they’re just not gullible fools..
@@laymansview5246 - Bless your heart...Hillbilly learned a new phrase (cognitive ability) and wanted to say it to sound smart, but as common decency has departed the South, so has reading comprehension. I give you an A for effort sweet pea.
I spent a lot of time in back-woods Appalachia in my youth. The kindest folks you'll ever meet. Old school, old values, slow pace of life. Driving down back country roads and people wave hello to you.
Sounds wonderful 🥲
I'd be concerned of all the farting
would I be safe? or am I not welcomed
@@NAT-turners-Revenge You'd be as safe as you make yourself. These people have a way of life and they are not going to allow that to be changed by me, by you, or by anybody else.
Be decent to these folks and they'll treat you like one of the family. Be trouble to them and they'll get rid of you one way or another. It really is that simple.
@@NAT-turners-Revenge There's always been blacks in Appalachia, because you could live in a holler and never hardly come in contact with anybody else ... I've seen lots of black and white photos of black families living in log cabins with wood stoves in Appalachia. If they survived back then it must have not been too hostile an area. How you think so many African Americans are finding Scots-Irish blood in their DNA tests? The Jewish and English were the ones doing the "exploitation of labor" not us.
That young fella summed it up in a few words.

God bless America. Walked into my barber the other day in Washington state and said gimme the usual hillbilly cut.
Honestly coming from Cali... these people are a breath of fresh air. Cali "used to" have real down to Earth folk too ✌️
Most of the people came from the south or lower midwest. I worked in Cali for several years and could have sworn some were from the south. They had just as much of an accent as I.
In California many blacks had roots in texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and alabama. Whites from places like ohio, texas, and Colorado.
Same. San Diegan here and I wish there were more people like this.
