- Bob Dylan wrote this love song shortly after his girlfriend Suze Rotolo left for Italy. He shared it with John in his tiny New York city studio apartment in 1962. To find out more about John visit www.johnwinnmus...
This is by far the most beautiful version of this song.. the photos add to the deep sadness and beauty of this
Kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the. video
❤ Truly! You have a beautiful🔥💔🔥memory of Bob! ThankYou! 4💞sharing iT💞with us💘
I can listen to this endlessly! My favorite version of my favorite Dylan song 😍
Thank you Niniko,.It's a wonderful song to sing.
Tomorrow Is a Long Time is one of my all time favorite songs and this is one of the best rendition of the song. And the episode John Winn reveals before he sings the song is heart-wrenching and heart-warming at the same time.
+Bob Miura Thanks to you for enjoying the story and the song.
John, thanks for this. What a great song and what a memory.
Thanks Brady, it's one of my best memories too.
If you've ever lost someone, this song will make you cry. And, John, you sing it with great purity.
+Benjamin Goggins I'm grateful you were so touched by Bobby's song. Many thanks from this old troubadour.
I have listened to a number of versions of this beautiful song, but the softness of John Winn's voice and emotion is the most beautiful and touching to me.
Thank you Linda, It was by chance that I heard Bobby sing "Tomorrow is a Long Time"" that day in 1962 but now even at 88 I still hear his feelings whenever I sing his beautiful love song. Those feelings echo in every love song I've written and sing today. Here's, "Why do I Feel the way that I do." czcams.com/video/R7fuxITIOJI/video.html,
"The Old Troubadour"
Grew up loving Dylan's music. My early mornings were never the same. Beautiful cover, John💙
My wake up call his morning was blessed by "Sailing" along with your kind comment. Thanks from "The Old Troubadour>"
Three chords and the truth. Beautifully performed. Glad I stumbled upon this.
I'm grateful that you found it, thanks for the wonderful comment
It's funny, you wrote this comment 7 years ago. I heard it for the first time today and commented above. Then I scrolled down and started reading other comments. Seems like we're on the same page. You're far less verbose which seems more truthful, it reads like a Hemingway sentence.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but this song is so so good. Every time I hear it I hear more depth & subtlety. Just beautiful. As someone said earlier, my favorite version of my favorite Dylan song. Only a small handful of covers best the original of any song. This is one of them.
To be included in your comment is an honor.
That’s wonderful - both the singing and playing. I’m 71, and it gives me hope that I can go on performing into my eighties. Thank you!
Martin, thank you for viewing and enjoying Bobby's great song. I looked you up and listened to your lovely rendition of Tecumseh Valley. Very nice harmonies.
Here's another song I think you might enjoy. It's title is "The Old Troubadour"
czcams.com/video/p-KlUVLdKsg/video.html
The emotion this song carries really hits me hard. Outstanding cover.
Yes Lucas, it is a song of beautiful sadness that I've carried with me for over half a century. Most recently I sang it A cappella at a reading of my book, "This Singin' Thing" and the effect on the audience was still magical after all these years. That you found it so moving is a tribute to both Bobby and that special moment in time.
John Winn Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

@@donbenevento2805 Thanks Don, at 88 I'm truly getting older but music helps us all stay a little younger a whole lot longer. Here's a love song I just wrote for my wife. I hope you'll enjoy it, czcams.com/video/ySPwtCEB8wc/video.html.
A song I come back to again and again. John's cover is so full of heartfelt emotion, as though he had just said goodbye to a dear friend.
Dylan's was raw emotion; John's is tempered by a lifetime of loves and loss, more resigned than raw, as though he's been here before.
Keep truckin', John
Thanks Dan. your comment speaks from a fountain of experience in your life as well.
Just one great singer! What a voice u have! The song is so pretty!
Thank you Kathryn. As I've gotten older, now 88, I still work every day on keeping my voice in shape. Your encouragement is greatly appreciated. .
This is a really cool video of my friend John Winn reminiscing and singing an old Bob Dylan song very nicely.
+Hugh Plumleigh A good review from a fellow musician is most welcome.
A stunning performance.

Really good - better than I expected. Good lead-in story. Thank you.
Kind comment and recognizing the beauty of the story was lovely
John, your picking pattern is so beautiful ,,thankyou for this beautiful rendition of Bob Dylan's bittersweet song
Glad you enjoyed it.,tis indeed a bittersweet song.
This song never gets old, and John’s rendition get better with every listening. And as always with John, his picking is beautiful.
Thanks Dan, It's a great song to sing and it's good to hear from you. JRW
Wonderful voice, great rendition of this song. Haunting and deep.
Saphire Blue, Thank you for the comment! Here is another Bob Dylan song, just like "Tom Thumbs Blues" to enjoy. czcams.com/video/Fi5hgnhktOY/video.html
I love this. So simple and so heartfelt. Thanks for such a strong reminder of what the folk revival of the late 50s and early 60s gave to us all.
+John Holman It's early morning out here in Colorado and I find myself playing catch up on some very nice comments.I want to say simply, thank you for yours.
I listen to this often since it is such a great version which can't be bettered.
here's to john Winn,
great artist and true gentleman of music, and true gentleman in life too.
Pat O, as I move forward to my 84th birthday this Friday the 13th of April, in the year 2018 it's comments like yours that encourage an elder fella' like me to "Keep on keepin' on." The joy that you feel when listening to a great song well sung is akin to the joy I feel when I sing it.
+John Winn
happy birthday john.
keep on keeping on!
Thanks Pat, one song at a time!
A Song We Can All Sing..........

Your heart pours through ~~ thanks.
Nothing personal, but Odetta’s cover is my favorite 🤩.
Understood. Odetta was my first inspiration when I heard her in concert in Santa Fe New Mexico in 1958. She took me under her wing in her artist management firm, "Dandetta enterprises" in 1959. You put your soul on the song, sir. Glad you shared it with us
Thanks Henrique. I've been singing this song for over half a century and each time his words echo clearly in my mind.. I Have posted a memorial tribute to another great poet of our time, Leonard Cohen. "The Tower of Song" has a moving message that also resonates through the years. I'm grateful that you felt so much in my performance of Bobby's great song.
Very nice performance sir , well done
Thank you Charles. Your thoughtful words are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for allowing the song to sing itself. Sometimes the best singers can do this. You did.
Exquisite comment. I've always believed the song is the message and the singer is the messenger.
Song still moves me after all these years...
Thank you, Laura. It's been over 50 years that I have carried it as precious memory. I am still moved every time I sing it. Truly one of Bobby's best and one of the finest love songs ever written..
Damn, John. That is a beautiful rendition.
Thank you Mr. Blues.. it helps that I was friends with both Bobby and Suze. Here's another interpretation of one his songs that I think you might enjoy. It's a quiet version of Tom Thumbs blues. Beautiful cover John....
Thanks Keith. Suze's trip to Italy gave us one of the great love songs of all time.. She came back but the separation eventually led to a mutual break up. Absolute perfection, John. An outstanding cover of one of the most moving and poignant songs ever written. The longing throughout is heart-wrenching.
Bob Dylan, your heart was breaking when you wrote this gem but it has withstood the test of time.

Over the years Bob wrote many wonderful and beautiful songs he was very talented . I think he would be very proud that Elvis Sang one of his songs ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks John! I really like your rendition!
+Johnny Miller My apologies for being a bit tardy in expressing my appreciation of your kind comment.
Magnificent, simple as!
In the end it is the truth that produces the music of the spheres, the heavenly tones. It's never been about range or vocal gymnastics. Even a pitch perfect opera singer belting to the rafters ring hollow if the singer is not connected to the meaning of the language. I don't know this musician yet but he sure sings the truth! It's so very beautiful!
Beautiful song, beautifully done. Thank you. And thank you for filling in the history around its composition.
It was a very special time and I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the video.
This is the most beautiful version I have heard. I've looked everywhere to find this guy singing it. Can anyone help?
Well Steve, you've got him right here and I thank you for finding and viewing Bobby' great song. i also have my old folksingers version of Mr. Tambourine Man and Love is just a four letter word on youtube under my name. My website is www.johnwinnmusic.com Thanks again I really appreciate your comment
John Winn I feel very honoured that you've replied John. I love your voice and couldn't find your music on iTunes here in the UK. I think that I was born just one generation too late. I have see Bobby several times over the last 30 years and recently managed to catch Joan Baez in concert whilst I was living in France a couple of years back. I think today's music lacks the sincerity of the folk days and so when I find a revelation such as your music I am so pleased. I've just come back from visiting my family in Southern Ireland where we passed a few Guinness filled nights listening to Irish folk. Thank you once again for your reply and my thoughts are with you and my other American friends over the next week or so with your almost surreal choices you have to make. God bless you.
Thanks Steve. I and all the other singers in the troubadour tradition are honoured by folks like you who listen to our music. With encouragement like yours I'll continue to sing as long as the Heavenly spirits permit. Here's a song that I wrote I think you'll enjoy. It's on youtube and you'll find I it listed as: John Winn "With the Comin' of the Mornin.."
Dammit, John, both the song and you yourself are beautiful. You may have achieved the supremely rare feat of topping Bob on his own song. There's only been two or three other people who have done that, all time. Congratulations on playing a perfect song.
The song was the message and I, as an old troubadour am honored to still be a messenger. Comments such yours encourage us elder folk to keep on singing. My thanks for that.
Maybe someday someone will invent the right words to truly explain how lovely and wonderful your version of this song is. Until then, I'll just have to live with saying that I'm in awe, and that you're magnificent. But that's still a poor description.
And I am deeply humbled and honored by the grace and beauty of your comments.
I still love it. You're a magnificent old troubadour, John.
Once again I thank you for your gracious words. I'm sure Bobby would be pleased as well.
I didn't think anyone could do Dylan better than Dylan. Damn you, you proved me wrong.

Well done-really enjoyed it.
It was a special privilege I was fortunate to have and I'm happy that you enjoyed it.
with the Nobel , it's even more special !
Thanks John. That Bobby was unusually talented was evident from his earliest days in the "Village". He did regale us with fanciful stories of his vagabond youth. They were wild but hey, they were good stories. Some of us were pursuing our own writing careers. Tom Paxton and Freddy Neil were also exceptional writers . Bobby's gift of unusual metaphor and melody soon became apparent to us as a sign of genius. www.johnwinnmusic.com has more info on those times.
man, this was beautiful. your voice rings with such sentimental tones.
That you felt the meaning of Bobby's words in my singing is a most gracious compliment.
So tender and sad. Your direct knowledge of the song speaks volumes. Great voice. Thank you.
Mr John Winn, what a breath-taking rendition. Your singing embodies the fragility of the innocence of the first-love relation, when we are convinced that eternity is on our side only to wake up one day when she or he has gone and tomorrow is a very long time indeed !
For the record: It is the one Dylan song that Elvis covered. His version is great. But no cover can surpass yours.
+Walter Buydens I am touched by your understanding of the meaning of the song.
Very well spoken!

Great Song. Here are the lyrics.
If today was not a endless highway
If tonight was not a crooked trail
If tomorrow wasn't such a long time
Then lonesome would mean nothing to you at all
Yes and only if my own true love was waitin'
And if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin'
Yes, only if she was lyin' by me
Then I'd lie in my bed once again. I can't see my reflection in the waters
I can't speak the sounds that show no pain
I can't hear the echo of my footsteps
Or remember the sound of my own name
Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin'
And if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin'
Only if she was lyin' by me
Then I'd lie in my bed once again. There's beauty in the silver, singin' river
There's beauty in the rainbow in the sky
But none of these and nothing else can touch the beauty
That I remember in my true love's eyes
Yes and only if my own true love was waitin'
If I could hear her heart a softly poundin'
Yes and only if she was lyin' by me,
I would lie in my bed once again
Yes, Bobby's song truly has a timeless beauty.
