Hi, I am the son of two artists and began painting in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia before I could walk. I was a rare combination of artist and athlete so I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to play football for USC. I left the team my sophomore year to focus on painting and filmmaking, applying the same focus and discipline from my football career to my art. I primarily work in oils, and spend most free days painting "en plein air" in my new home of Sarasota Florida.

Inspiration will come but it has to find you working. I think Picasso said that... great vid 👍
Great quote! Thanks!
I love Draw Mix Paint. Mark is a great resource for supplies and how to. He started by painting in his garage as his studio.
Just got the notification! How crazy you post about this today. I’ve been extremely unmotivated to paint lately and haven’t for awhile. Mostly because I don’t yet have the skills to paint the image in my head. I have to learn to be ok with making mistakes and knowing that’s my practice paintings will probably suck. It’s hard to even accept the compliments my friends and family give when I know my skills are nowhere near where I’d like them to be. Anyway I’m just venting now. Great video, man!
Thanks! Just keep plugging away. If you put in the practice I promise you will be able to paint however you want.
I made my porch my studio 😆 tarp goes around for my walls that way I can bring it down for warmer weather or to see natural lights..or keep up in cold weather or rain..it's wonderful I have a huge studio now 😆
one hour a day is a lot of painting, believe me:) im trying to paint every two days for half a year now.... its like a fight with time, and im not working daily, have a space just for painting prepared
I am afraid to paint when somebody is near because people tend to be critical.
I wish people around me were critical. Often, when not in art circles, the response to mr artwork Is “good job. You’re talented.”
Which the most useless response: apathy
Hey Chris, I needed this video today. Thx much! Learning a lot from you!
I love this video so much. This is awesome, love taking away the resistance!
What a helpful video, thank you for this. Giving to others is priceless, and can really make a difference; and you are sure doing that. Thanks!
I have been a working artist most of my adult life. This is EXCELLENT advice. Seriously- just eliminating obstacles- like a cluttered work area, etc. is going to help so much. I believe Steven Pressfield in The War Of Art said something to the effect of “you need to sweep off the entrance so The Muse doesn’t dirty her gown when you invite her in”
Love the book title, great twist on "The Art of War!" For me inspiration is *anything* in nature, a colorful sunset, a scenic place, even a cool twisted tree trunk or branch, or cluster of berries. This was a GREAT, helpful video/advice all the through, so thank you!
Thank you for this video! Much appreciated!
I like to listen to your paint talks when painting 👌
You hit the nail on the head for me.i procrastinate so much but you reminded me that went just jump into it it Al comes to me it's just beginning!! ❤️ Thank you..I just begun my journey of painting.ive started with acrylic but my destiny is to use acrylic and oil..u have been such a inspiration and guide for me
Thank you for this
Thank you So much! That was actually Very helpful.. ❤
This has been extremely insightful!! Thankyou for sharing this and I am so happy I finally found it (: I have been trying to attain this goal of painting daily ..and was Too focused on feeling like I did need to paint for 5 hours a day which made it even more intimidating! Also the the tips for how to make things easier are great! I’m such a lazy painter lol
Yes, I work with Stefan Baumann but like u said Mark Carder is great and ur another I found that even w my coach the tips I've gotten from u guys also are tremendous and has been a tremendous help. Like my studio and values got from Mark, u helped with practice painting to I've even made my own fruit for plains like ur video shows. To even painting it in black/white to gray scale b4 painting it.
Your amazing,thanks
This is good advice, I will use this today! Feeling resistant but I have a piece I need to finish. The cleaning up after you are done to make the next session start easily, has really helped me over the past few months. I actually find podcasts and talking to be irritating unless its a really boring task, but music is absolutely essential for me. I cant paint in silence. I often pair the music with the mood of the piece or if the subject has some sort of emotion Im trying to convey, I will pick a playlist with similar emotion. People can often pick that out in my work when they see the finished art, which is pretty fascinating. That's me though, I think its just depends on the person! I know alot of podcast lovers too.
Great tips in this video! I've been thinking about doing a paint everyday challenge...you just encouraged me even more to do it! Thanks for sharing!
Hannah Betzel thanks! I really like the Van Gogh painting on your channel
Paint Coach Ah, thanks so much! Hoping to do more like that this year. :)
your video is my inspiration! because you motivate me to paint when you say, " to go get paint!ing"
Excellent tutorial again, I try painting, 2 or 3, paintings at a time, which helps me, if I get stuck on one, I move on to another one, having a good space to paint is a massive help, and setting small goals
michael mc ewan yes! Multiple paintings is a very smart thing to do!
@@dconfused9919 good luck with your landscape
Execellent!
Listening to you while painting is better than music, for real
Hi, I’m 13 n I really like to paint because firstly it makes me find peace n secondly my parents specially my father is very proud of what I do.
He actually spend like 50,000 on my paint supplies first n then 20,000 (btw I live in Pakistan where there is expensive stuff :-/)
So I watched this vid cuz whenever I have the spirt to paint I began crying literally for no reason n it sucks so bad that I leave everything where it was n start crying like crazy :(.
Thankyou for taking your precious time n reading my comment hopefully I’ll get motivated!!♥️🥺✨
I’m so appreciated your videos!! Can you talk about how to sell and promote artworks?😀
Ughh I watched this because I got discouraged from painting today because I failed …. I’m gonna try again
Thank you! Like
I read the book. I found great ideas and realizations inside the book, but you do have to get through Coyne's bizarre concepts on fundamentalism, which left me scratching my head, and his weird process of "invoking the muse". He does bring to light many strategies for working through resistance. I am glad I read the book though. Thanks for the recommendation and the video. Runners run, musicians play, and painter's paint.
Hi, it’s me, I’m the problem it’s me ✨
Podcasts and audio books work for me
Hey coach, can you demonstrate "quince" it is a fruit look like apple.
How to improve dimensions in painting structures? Does it has to be perfectly in persfective view?
Can I make my painting in acrylics but use oil for the water?
Do you gesso your canvas paper ?
Do you need to seal an oil painting?
Hello Paint Coach. Do you need an underpaiting wen you paint whit acrylic paints? I know you need it wen you oil paint. 😊🖐🏾👍🏾👋🏾
Where can I find the subjects and objects to paint
Do you recommend for a beginner to work on details first and getting lose comes later or vice versa?
R. Taylor I would start out loose. Most tight and detailed paintings start out loose anyway and they dial in detail as they go. Starting out loose will help you see the big shapes and values first. Think of those as the paintings foundation for you to put detail on. The detail won’t matter if your foundation is off.
i am facing a problem with staring on .i juct can't start anything and its making me suffer 😔
Oh wait I like youI will watch more videos!
How much for joe dirt 😂
in 24 hours i save 5 hours to paint.
lol joe rogan
I only paint or draw a couple times a year. I’m good at it, but I know I could be sooo much better if I just did it every day . Wasted potential really
