Leslie West - Theme For An Imaginary Western LIVE - Night of the Guitars 1989 REMASTERED

- This was a long unseen version of Theme From An Imaginary Western (Many Mountain fans outside of Italy saw this for the first time 26+ years after it was recorded, in 2015!). It is NOT the same as the famously RELEASED masterpiece on the Night of the Guitars album and video.
Recorded in ROME, ITALY in 1989, Leslie plays THE HELL OUT of this song written by the late great Jack Bruce, and handed to Leslie and Felix, who turned it into one of the greatest rock n roll ballads of all time...
They don't call Leslie West THE KING OF TONE for nothing. Noone got more tone out of a Les Paul Jr or Steinberger than the Big L, the Great Fatsby.
I have remastered the audio.. and patched it with the video from 2015, stripping the original audio clip.
ENJOY FANS! TURN... IT... UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My heart is heavy, sad and broken. Today the World lost a talented musician, one of the great guitarists; Leslie West. Many will not recognise the name, but there are thousands that will. Leslie West was the guitarist with Mountain, a major heavy rock band from the US and considered forerunners of heavy metal. He worked together with a number of other famous musicians, a true talent. RIP Leslie West and thanks for the muzak!
I'm so sorry I can't think of him as a 'living legend' anymore...:(
He was a brilliant guitarist....I know Felix is gone, lo these many years, but I wonder if Corky Laing is still with us?
Song written by Jack Bruce
well said my man, still get goosebumps every time i listen to as my friends and i call it for short....THE THEME....original on ..climbing album...one of best rock tunes ever!!!
Guitar players, some don't know when they are holding a note with bending from the hearts expression is really coming from the best and that they are only duplicating LESLIE 'S bends. I'm a guitarist for 57 years and I see and feel for a L. WEST bends of his guitar strings ,brings me of a thought and feel of BRIAN MAY it's something to think about when you hear and see BRIAN play and listen to his sound at times .To me it sounds like not everything but some of the way BRIAN riffs , I feel it 's LESLIE WEST inspire . I'm not in anyway putting down BRIAN never in my life , get it. Check me out YOU TUBE BLACK SABBATH PIZZA I play guitar on the show I think you will like it.

Rest in peace Leslie. You personified rock'n'roll brother.
Rock in Peace Leslie.
He really tore it up in this song, effortless and with feeling you rarely hear today.
He knew how to project and express his soul on his guitar one of the best. ROCK IN PEACE LESLIE YOU WILL BE MISSED.
The solos on the studio version are two of the most perfect guitar solos ever.
Yes sir… the 2nd solo never fails to stir my Soul… RIP
Yes indeed...this solo make me cry in everyday.
Yes, I also prefer the studio version, those solos are perfect and not given enough credit in the history of rock guitar solos.
TRUTH !!
In my opinion, Moutain was a very underrated band musically. Each original member had SO VERY much to offer and did so with very little recognition and credit. Rip Felix and Leslie. We miss you guys. Rock on in heaven. .!
Leslie was amazing. People forget how great a voice he had. His guitar playing was just beautiful. Nothing like it. To this day I love to hear his music. Crazy thing is that he thought he wasn't much of a guitar player. Jeez.
We're always our own worst critic, some us think because we're not shredding 64th notes that we're not worthy, quite the opposite, tone, feel, heart and soul win out over speed every time and Leslie was the epitome of heart and soul, guts and glory. We miss you Big L, RIP!
I can't listen to this song anymore without bawling my eyes out. RIP Leslie West, the greatest of all time.
But you never hear it enough. It's a masterpiece!
same here, loved Les and Mountain, but this song always hit me for some reason. thankful I was able to see him live many times and meet him once. RIP Leslie.
@@jerrymako8100 Man I've seen most of my guitar idols but never got a chance to see Leslie slightly jealous :-)
R.i.P. Leslie. Another legend is gone. This is just so sad..Such a pioneer. Brilliant song...
Leslie was a fantastic guitarist.
There was so much raw, genuine
emotion in his playing, as well as
his equally awesome voice. I was
so sad to learn of his death, but
his wonderful music lives on and
on forever. I have always loved
this song ever since I first heard
it in 1969 or '70---and I always
will continue to love it for the
rest of my days. RIP, Leslie.✌
Leslie West " is " the best guitarist I have ever heard in my entire life . :) QC
Leslie was terrific, but you need to get out more.
RIP Leslie West. Today I'll only play my Les Paul Jr. in tribute.
Leslie, the Greatest!
Rock in Peace Man!
Theme from Imaginary Western is beautiful. Leslie West was an incredible guitar player. The music of this era was and remains the best in history. Truly a gift to mankind.
Jack Bruce wrote this song while with Cream, but Clapton thought it was too hard to play. Leslie West nailed it (in an interview he said the song is in A but he discovered he could solo in F#m )
Could not agree with more , it is to me one of the best songs ever done by Mountain and LESLIE'S guitar playing.
Let the man play it one more time...
I do miss seeing and speaking with him. He doesn't get to Atlanta anymore. Truly one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived. Hope all is well with him he did have it rough for many years.
Doc Lonny
Virtuoso guitar playing from Leslie West, one of the very best ever.
Can't believe you left us so soon ,,Les..You will rock on in Heaven with the Great House Band In The Sky,,, Theres a Golden Les Paul Jr. with a P-90 pickup just waiting for you,,,
One Internet news tells nightmare in 24 Dec in Japan.
Leslie...we miss you and don't forget your music and your originally guitar tone forever!!!!
god bless Mr.Leslie West.
This is a real treat, seeing a live version from back then, and when I say back then, this is the only Mountain
song my friends and I jammed to, and I always was the singer. This sounds like the original album, when the
two videos I just left behind had horribly distorted guitars from the start. When you plug an electric guitar
into an amplifier in a room, especially a Marshall with effects, you don't know what's going to make that
beautiful sound until you turn it up loud, and Leslie West always knew how to get there, up loud and proud.
I'm thankfull I got to see him do this song twice in 2006
LESLIE MAKES THAT GUITAR 🎸 SCREAM ❤❤. JUST TOOOO FANTASTIC ❤❤
RIH SIR
YOU WERE ONE OF THE BEST KIND 😅😅
L.WEST ,FANTASTIC,ONE OF THE BEST GUITARIST ,EVER, AWESOME.😎🎸🔊🎶☮️ BOB.
Twas in the 10th grade at Glencliff high school in Nashville. Me and my friend saw Mountain on Tuesday (Thursday?) at Vanderbilt and the Allman Brothers on Thursday at MTSU gym in Murfreesboro. West's guitar had such incredible sustain!!!
One of the greatest guitarists of all time, awesome.
Yeah what a Nantucket sleigh ride he took me on!!
Wed had virus shot 💉 still Leslie music 🎶 gives goose bumps.Above medicine .😷❤️
He was coked out of his mind 😳and he still killed it...
those giant eyes behind magnifne glasses
Those glasses are like the uniform of coke abuse in that era.
I love Leslie....but he butchered the lyrics to this great song!
He should have had Mark Clark handle the vocals.
I seen Leslie live many times and he continually forgot lyrics!
@@danh367 yes like pissholes in the snow.
@@rich655 Think it’s Derek Holt on vocals from Climax Blues Band .
Guitar god, great human being. Thank you Leslie.
Loved that guy....rip shalom
Rest in peace sir we will miss you
I saw him at the Bristol gig doing this it was mind blowing to see live and something i shall never forget
R I P Leslie you were amazing!
THE BEST OF THE WEST! REST IN PEACE LESLIE
Lovin the big mans vocals
IT hurts every time one leaves this world ,that was so much part of you for 50 years. I have been playing 55 years you could let me hear a cow bell without LESLIE WEST banging into your brain it just don't stop not in my life. Its something deeply rooted in his riffs that's in my heart and fingers. Leslie West 1971 was in phila. he started playing Mississippi Queen I took a photo of him 8ft away a great photo I always wanted to show him this photo and get him to autograph it never happen . I know now I did not try hard enough . One more thing Leslie in 1971 had a flying V guitar I was 16 and I bought one today it is in great shape 2021 it will be 50 years old and is worth some big $$$ going to sell so I would not of had that guitar if not for Leslie it is a 1971 GIBSON MEDALLION # 7 gold seal engraved into the guitar .So whatever time I have left in the world I will always feel this was meant to be.
The decade of the tiny guitar. You gotta love it!!! I prefer the Les Paul jr. But either way he is awesome.☺☺☺
I was in high school when I became a die hard Mountain Fan (1972) I had the privilege to see them Live in 1974 at McDonough Arena at Georgetown university. When they started their show they played "Whole Lotta Shakin," Goin'ON . JUST LIKE their Live Album with the first Track they played "Roll Over Beethoven "^
I was lucky enough to see Mountain at One worth '85. I'd first heard of them through the use of part of Nantucket Sleighride as the theme music to a Sunday UK current affairs program called Weekend World.
Simply Fantástic this Song 🎵🎼🎶🎸😎👊

Absolutely amazing version of this song....love it thank you
Leslie West R.I.P. :( QC
what a treat to see! Leslie always had such great guitar tone, tasty playing and the best players with him!
I always thought Clint Eastwood should have used this song in one of his movies, Pale Rider comes to mind.
GREAT IDEA!!! Yes any Western this would have been perfect for a CLASSIC SCENE.
In lovely memory.
3:00 am a little Leslie to put life in prospective .Such emotional.I started . Listened.
To his short time.💕🇺🇲🔥
I started playing the guitar because of West and Winter many years ago. I am sad now really woe because both have passed away. RIP Leslie.
LE VERE EMOZIINI TRASMESSE TRAMITE UNA SPLENDIDA BALLAD E UN SOLO FANTASTICO EMOLTO MELODICO. GRANDE L W QUESTA È VERA MUSICA
there is so much feeling in Leslie's guitar playing. Love this !
All the proof you need . RIP Leslie West
One of the best rock bands ever, Lesliewas a great guitarist with a unique sound, RIP to Mountain !!!
What a real rockn' roller this guy was, thanks for the music.
Very nice video, Depper. Thanks for your time and effort in putting this together. It is incredible that Leslie gets a great tone regardless of the guitar.
ikr?
Great to see n hear him and his band terrific personality
You're right, of course. So much of the tone we get is through hand technique, not what model guitar's in our hands :)
Leslie could be so sweet.
Thanks for video!!
After performance . Confident. He walks away leaving us wonder.History in making.🛑
Good one once again Depp. You do us yet another great public service in your memorialization of the Great Fat One. Rock on bro. West is the best guitarist I have ever heard in my entire life. Hell, best musician, period. I have heard him do incredible shit ...
leslie west does not appear in the woodstock movie as johnny winter, janis joplin, and credence but that does not take away from him how great he is was and will be, forever will live in our hearts
RIP Leslie guitar legend
Why does Leslie play "Theme....."? Chicks dig it !!
Leslie will live for ever!
It has that effect on you I know you mean I was probably 10 11 12 years old there's something mystical about that song can't describe it
That tone! 💯 🔥
Leslie is the best, just listen to 1970 version then 1989 sounds like 2 different guitarist both Masterpiece guitar .. Gotta love em both.
The big man class act allways
Totally mind blowing 😎⚡️
I like the comments along with the music.
Thank you for the nice file; God bless you!
Ich liebe Lesli West, ikl Mountain und West, Bruce & Laing.

RIP Leslie. You were the Best! Glad I got to see you at least once...and, that was about three feet in front of the stage in Little Rock. I guess you brought big rock to Little Rock. You are a legend. Thanks for the imaginery westernly beautiful music, to botn you and Felix..."Sometimes they found it. Sometimes they kept it. Often lost it, along the way. Fought each other, to possess it. Sometimes died, in sight of day..."

Had tickets for this show at the Palladium. They wound up canceling it
It quite Ironic that at least 3 Bass Players have Sung this complicated Vocal: Jack Bruce wuth Cream (Jack co-wrote Song, but Cream didn't play song a lot), Fekix with Mountain and this Bass Player.
Rest um paece frio.brasil.souza.abc.sp 2021.

Leslie looks like a big version of Lou Reed
smoke 🌬
You have to hand it to the Steinberger here- the tone is legit.
FANTASTIK Leslie ! .... too bad those clowns at the end tried to scrap it. He was a great guitar player, one of the very best.
good..........................
A true god much aloha
...no..non sapevo nella TV italiana...!!!
Parecia um urso.
Essa música o Mountain tocou em Woodstock.
that 's so funny. the well dressed babes, looking like they were imported from England from the "Addicted to Love" video.
A staged set piece. Stuck in front row by the producers. the first time i watch this i had a weird feeling watching them. something totally fake about it all. and now i see at the end---- "pronto! pronto! NOW NOW go onto stage and make sexy movings and faces to Leslie West! si si! okay ! Basta! enough!" hilarious, reminds me of SNL Vinny Vedeci. Maybe they got Vinny to produce and direct this show.
A god
Holy shit, I love Leslie, but he was coked out of his mind here, it was amazing how much drugs he used and his size he made it as long as he did.So glad I got to see him perform again live a couple of years ago at Baldhill L.l.
