- I install the Eva Resto Transmission / Engine riser cradle in the VW Beetle pan under the bagged Auto Union 1000SP. This part is a must-have part to fully slam your VW Beetle once your engine and exhaust hit the floor. Go get one from Eva Resto!

Where has Corey been? I can’t be the only one who misses that dude being a regular in these videos
This channel rules! You better be cutting those sills in the next video!
Thank you!
@@5H4V3D89 another thing you may want to add an air duct like the type3 would have on the body to keep the motor cool. External oil cooler my help as well.
Awesome stuff buddy lots of love from south Africa Johannesburg 🇿🇦
John, i just found your channel via the Flxible bus episodes. Binging the 1000SP content now. Great work and very cool vehicles. 🇨🇦
I really appreciate that! Thank you!
This car gets more and more rad.
That engine cradle looks like a quality item, I’ve run a type 3 motor in a Bug flat bed truck with no rear mount with no issues, really enjoying all the builds, I liked the bus and Rv series with your Dad, thanks.
I bought that same jack to remove my 356 engine. I bought it so I wouldn’t crush the oil sump. It worked perfectly.
Thank you for the before work entertainment! This thing is coming together so nicely. Weird seeing how simple those Beetles are too😂
That's been the best look I've ever had about how the beetle engine and transmission is set up
I love this project, great channel. Thanks John
Me too 👍
Thank you, guys!
It is getting there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
This is awesome! I learn something new every episode! Max at Eva is the man! Stoked to see the progress of this car! 🎉
Highly suggest ordering the CB performance Alternator kit for the Type 3 engine, i had it on my fastback. Definitely looking to upgrade to an alternator on the Ghia soon... Compressor works the crap out that generator
the rear mount is nice, makes the engine feel more solid, noticed it in my 67 bus, i have a berg rear brace and a trans mid mount. that split case trans must be fun to drive.
Killed it alsome upgrade
Fantastic work! Definitely giving me lots of ideas for when I eventually bag my Beetle!
No need to run the rear mustache bar for your setup imo.
You need a merch T with the word ACCENTUALLY! 😂
I have that exact same jack for pulling the engine out of my fastback.
New to the channel. Really appreciate your work. You are an inspiration to us all. Best wishes and blessings.
Thank you!
It’s like a thunderbird and a 59 Buick had a baby..
I don't have personal experience with a type 3 but VW added the mostache bar for a reason. Later kombis also recieved the bar.
Love the Corvair and 1000sp projects.
Let the sill Gods take it all in .
It's the jam nut on the driver's side stabilizer.Or started listening when you hit it with the impact
That looks awesome 😍
I am building my dream V12 supercar 😎
Did you also raise the front of the trans ?
IIRC, you can go up by 1.5" and the shifter rod stays in the tunnel.
Car looks great.
Parabéns meu amigo. Seus projetos me inspiram e me motivam. Grato pela sua disposição. Abraço aqui de Brasília - DF. Brasil.
I really appreciate that!
Have you looked into a bus nosecone? Now your engine is tilted an inch higher in the engine bay. The bus nosecone drops the shift rod down, thus almost leveling the engine and trans. It's been a little while since I did mine, but the difference alittle over an inch. You'll have to use a bus hockey stick also since they are different from a bug.
I like doing VW pan swaps on different cars. Someone tagged you on some of my pictures, wondering if you saw them. I also had a gold Corvair...way back when I was 16.
Okay, just saw your angle crossmeber is already close to the top of the nosecone. You would definitely have to modify things.
I know you like the patina look but I was wondering if you are going to repair the rust on the body and that big dent in the front? Love your channel. 👍👍
Hell no. Why would you want to remove the dent which gives him his awsome gnarly expression ?
I've swapped all sorts of engines on the Beetle transmission, even much heavier non-aircooled engines, and never needed any added support. I do usually put in new transmission mounts though. Look at it like this; if the Dune Buggies running a Honda J35 on a Beetle trans dont need extra support over jumps, then you should be perfect without them on a street car.
Beautiful Car and ideas!
Me personally id take the whole bottom half of that cill off to the upper line that way you'd almost lay bumpers on the floor 😅😅 ive basically done the same with my bug once everythings back in it should put the whole body on the ground nose tail and cills its been a pain while trying to keep the body looking almost stock and still using heater channels aswel but iam so close to being back on the road now
You should check for clearance between the flywheel and transmission case. The flywheel looks to be 200mm and 59 beetle is 6volt 180mm. You will need to clearance the case to run that flywheel.
I’ve already milled the bell housing to accept the 200mm flywheel!
The jam nut on your suspension started loosening. When you loosened the transmission don't know if you noticed
Dude - you dont need the motor mount. You have swing axel. The bar is for IRS when you dont have the forks that cradle the tran/motor. It would be a no need extra work to add motor mounts. Type 3s went IRS in late 68. Your fasty is a what? 71 or something. So its IRS. YOU DONT NEED MOTOR MOUNTS.
That’s exactly what I thought!
@JohnLudwick swing axle type 3's do have a buffer at the rear that kinda acts like a hanger. But all bugs with irs do not have anything like that and use the fork/irs combo with no issue. Weights are comparable for the T1 & T3 motors.
If that thing goes lower you'll need to install an elevator to get down into it lol
😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This thing is going to look insane when done! Could you extend the sheet metal from the body to curve round to the sill? Have you thought of extending bodywork or lowering fenders front and rear to bring them visually lower too?
right on......
That Auto Union is a cool car, but I can't wrap my head around the "drop it to the ground" so commonly done these days. It's probably because of my age. I'm a boomer, so when I was your age, we were jacking up the rear end of our cars to mount big meats on them. I'm sure the old guys in those days were scratching there heads watching us too. No disrespect though. You're doing a great job engineering the whole thing. By contrast, our engineering for jacking up our cars consisted of extra long leaf shackles and air shocks making for a lumber wagon stiff ride.
There are guys your age and probably many older ones, who dropped there cars to the ground too.
NO need to the rear engine mount when using a bug pan, NOW if you were to use a type 3 chassis then yes youd need to run a rear engine mount as the type 3 rear suspension is totaly different from a type 1 , you can remove the whole rear assembly from a type 3 with out even pulling the body off the pan , its an early version of a subframe, when you get time take a peak at your yellow type 3 and youll see the difference .
You have a bunch of space on the exhaust now. I'm curious about the wheel droop like you mentioned.
Hi!what setting do you have on the airlift. Where the car goes over ride height and down to ride height. saw it on the video now😊
You could always just drive as is and scrape those sils down
That is definitely an option 👀😂
I really want an Audi 100 C1
we put a karman ghia engine into a handmade fuselage and flew it to oshkosh. about 1970. metal shop did the body the engine shop did the motor. shop teacher was a ww2 pilot. wt clarke HS on long island.
cool, I thought it was a t-bird at first
Just wondering if you ever fancy putting the Porsche version engine in from the 914. Just for a bit more PEP
Have totally thought about that!
@@JohnLudwickhow about a Corvair motor in the type3.
Love your video. ❤😂
slam...... 👍👍😎👍👍
With the new angle how the hockey stick will connect with the nose of the gearbox?
Post a link to that caffeine and octane show please
I want to see one of your cars painted 😂
Hope this fixes the tyre removal. Excited on seeing you trim the sill too... 1000sp is only getting better
Lol. Just a lllittllle bit more.
Where da heck is the audi’s motor…
It’s Audi da car
More working, less talking 😉
