  • Andrew Horton builds a 1/48 Tamiya Bf 109G-6-all opened up! He opens up the cowling, gun pods, canopy and radio compartment on an Erla-built Bf 109G-6/R6. Bf-109s were built out of numerous factories (such as Regensburg, W.N.F. and Erla). Andrew liked the scheme and uniqueness the Erla 109 sported.
    This Bf 109 is built as if it is undergoing maintenance functions in numerous locations at once.
    Equipment and Parts Used:
    -Tru-Color Paint
    -1/48 Tamiya Bf 109G-6 (No. 61117)

      You're welcome! The real Bf-109s had some gnarly exhaust stains, but were often cleaned after a sortie. A clean surface meant less parasitic drag.

    Great build. I won best of show back in 1986 at the IPMA Regional in Hopkinsville, KY with my Airfix 1/24 scale detail build of Major Anton Hackl's Fw-190A6. I used liquid glass for the instrument panel lenses, you could read them all. Good work Andrew.

    Hello!! Thanks for this video! About the model, of course it is a very good build. I loved the detailing on the engine. I love airplanes, and other machines, but unlike you, I am nota a ''master starting projects''... I simply do not start them at all!! That's it, in 99% of the cases!! I am not an english speaking man, but your way of speaking is quite clear to me! Thank you!! I will see your other projects to inspire me on starting (and maybe finishing) mines too...

    @MF-og1ct Před měsícem +1

    Sehr gut, das ist schön!
    I love the 109. Your airbrush work on the mottling looks impecible. Do you just use low air pressure, thin paint, and spray very close to the model, or are there other tricks you use?

    • @flightlinemedia
      @flightlinemedia  Před měsícem +1

      Vielen dank! I used TCP for the build and thinned it with MLT. I sprayed at 12 psi if I recall correctly. I sprayed close to the model. The different factories that produced the 109 had different mottling, so each factory would require a different technique. The Erla mottling requires a steady hand, but honestly is straightforward. If I were to do it again, I would use MRP RLM colors. With MRP, no thinning is usually needed. I guess my big trick was to practice the airbrush technique on a piece of paper or a test piece before committing to the actual plane.

  • @Lee0568
    @Lee0568 Před rokem +1

    If your using Mr surfacer as a filler.you dont have to sand it smooth,soak a cotton bud but in Mr thinners and just wipe the excess off.

    • @flightlinemedia
      @flightlinemedia  Před rokem +3

      Thanks for the tip. In my experience though, it shrinks over time so regardless I like to top it off with a thin layer of CA.

  • @hellglazer
    @hellglazer Před rokem +1

    Amazing video! What PSI are you using on the compressor when doing very fine details with the airbrush, and what needle size are you using; presumably 0.15? keep up the great work!

    • @flightlinemedia
      @flightlinemedia  Před rokem

      About 15 - 18 psi. In hindsight though, I would much prefer MRP over Tru Color Paint to be honest.
