    I stockpile paper plates, paper bowls and bamboo sporks as part of my prepping supplies because they can become fuel for my rocket stove after being used during a meal. I have bags of peat moss to use in a DIY composting toilet because with time that used peat moss becomes compost to mix with garden soil. I have a washout tub that will fit inside a shower stall or bath tub. I can stand in that washout tub while giving myself a sponge bath and washing my hair. I will use that soapy water a second time to soak laundry overnight or to flush a toilet. When I cook pasta in boiling water, that same water can be used second time instead of being poured down a drain. Perhaps I will use it to make hot cocoa or as the liquid in cake batter or let cool and use to water plants.

      Hey! How are you? I love your approach to resourcefulness and sustainability in prepping! Repurposing paper plates and bowls for fuel and finding multiple uses for water is genius. Your ideas for a DIY composting toilet and reusing soapy water for laundry or flushing are super practical too. Thanks for sharing these tips!

      a lot of my water generation, will depend on working solar panels/generator, to power a dehumidifier (so i can get a couple of gallons of water from the air, per day).
      Then filter that water via Berkey (for drinking) or use it straight (for toilet flushing/washing).

    That is a very good topic and considering human waste for a long -term when you live in an apartment can be tricky but for a short -term it will be pretty ok to store it on your balcony. And you don´t have the possibilities to dig a hole in the ground when you live in an apartment so that takes some other methods to do so. I have shared this one out as well and a 👍 as usual.

    I dig old tree stumps out of the ground with a shovel. I burn all trash in the holes where the tree stumps were at. When they get full, I cover it up with dirt. I've been Prepping since the late 70's. Retired, my home and cars are paid off. I have never had a credit card. Keep Prepping my friends.

    Fortunately, my home uses a well and septic system so disposal of human waste isn't a problem. I also have three ways to power my well pump if the power is out (gas/propane generator and hand pump). City folks who can't put in a well and septic system are going to have a serious problem with human waste disposal unless they have a plan BEFORE the problem arises.

    it's times like this, that i wish i lived far away from surrounding neighbors, instead of in a condo/townhouse
    community.
    I don't trust my neighbors to care, nor properly handle their waste in such situations, and they will undoubtedly draw pests
    and disease to our community.

      @@reliableprepper and i also live on the end unit, and between me and the next townhouse is a
      large common-ground area.
      I believe if SHTF, careless neighbors will dump their trash into this open area, in close proximity
      to my living space. How i can secure that area/prevent that from happening... would be a challenge.

    • @reliableprepper
      @reliableprepper  Před měsícem +3

      @@MGillDesign @MGillDesign,
      In a worst-case scenario, like an SHTF situation, you’ll need to get creative to keep that common area clean and safe. One option is to create a makeshift barrier using whatever materials you have on hand, like boards, metal scraps, or even large branches. This can help deter neighbors from dumping trash near your space.
      You could also try to talk to your neighbors before things get too chaotic. A quick conversation about the importance of keeping the area clean might make a big difference. If you have some extra supplies, like trash bags or containers, sharing them could encourage proper waste disposal.
      Keeping an eye on the area is important, too. If you have any old security cameras or can rig up a fake one, it might make people think twice about dumping trash there.
      Finally, if things really go south, consider setting up a designated trash area farther away from your living space. This could help keep pests and disease away from your home.
      Staying proactive and resourceful is key in these situations. Good luck!

    • @MGillDesign
      @MGillDesign Před měsícem +2

      @@reliableprepper all great solutions. Thanks!!!
      I thought about the barrier option. I also have solar generator/panels that will be visible to anyone that looks hard enough beyond the common grounds area. So, putting up a barrier would help solve 2 issues (keep folks away from learning about my solar power setup & keep them from putting trash in the area).
      The camera option would also be something i would consider as well.
      A little worried about sharing trash bags/containers with neighbors that might eventually ask "what else you got?" Sad to say, but i don't trust some of my neighbors in good times... let alone SHTF.

    • @edbeals1793
      @edbeals1793 Před měsícem +1

      You might consider moving. Try your level best to get along with your neighbors. When/if the hard times come, you'll have a working relationship with the people who live nearby, making having a conversation about where not to dump trash a lot easier. Plan to share some resources with them. Food, tools, an extra warm blanket go along way during a catastrophe. Work with your neighborhood, never against them.
