  • Detailed video on assembling a Honda QA50 engine bottom end. There is very little detailed documentation available on this bike and some of what is available is wrong, this shows you where everything goes.

Thanks for the memories I still have a few parts for one including a rear fender plastic I remember fixing many of those and jumping in and out of second those were heavy duty Little engines and I saw one today with that top end coupled with a Chinese five-speed transmission with a manual clutch and I thought right on

I'm in need of parts for a qa50 if you want to sell what you have left.

I always watch my shifter shaft as I put on the side case so I can tell whether or not I hit the slot I didn't even go that far before I checked

early early on Honda made a one speed moped with basically this head and cylinder arrangement it was a good running little moped it was a four-stroke just like this

The Pc50? I have the 1978 Pa50. It’s 2-stroke and totally different. But the Pc50 came before it and was 4-stroke. Im not familiar with the PC50, but I know the PA inside and out.

And add a stiffer spring there was a fix for those transmissions
Every used one I ever bought including the z50 they usually had the clutch messed up nobody really understood how to adjust one of those

Is it possible to give a qa50 a larger frame for larger people?

Great video, very easy to follow. Question, for the 1st gear install, isn’t the side of the gear with the groove supposed to be facing towards the drive sprocket (actually true for both gears)? Saw one other comment but wanted to confirm. Again, get job overall!

Yes, I think you are correct. I don't get notified on every comment and I hadn't seen the other comment until today, but watching the video again I do have first gear flipped. Like I said in the video, I did this a half dozen times over a day or two (filming the whole time) and it's possible I flipped it later, or it's possible that it's simply in there wrong. Currently the bike is on a display shelf in my shop for the winter, but in the spring I am going to have to crack it open again and see what state that gear is in. Maybe I'll make a follow up video, as like everyone else who does this - including the pros - sometimes I get things wrong. In any case, thanks for watching and commenting, and I am glad you found this useful regardless of that error.

@@Chris_Does_Everything thanks Chris, I’ve done the same in that I was going back and forth on making progress, your video surely helped us out a ton so again thank you for taking the time for such a detail effort. Take care

In my opinion this engine was far superior to the ct50 and CT70 and that's saying a whole lot as far as overall construction I like to the push rod better because of can chain and cam running in oil continuously.

That was always the fun part but it could be done in the shop manual for the repair it said to take that little thing that has the S marks on it in the case you had to let the key lock transmission bar go in 1/8 of an inch or more

It's likely the one at the base of the kickstart assy.

There was a service bulletin in the '70s on these transmissions I worked at the Honda dealer I had many of these because people just threw them away for a few years
