MOTOR TV22: The crashes at the DTM Finale Hockenheim 2022 - Arjun Maini out

The 15th and penultimate race of the season, also the 100th race of the DTM at the Hockenheimring, was not only marked by the title fight, but also by accidents, which resulted in two safety car phases and a race interruption. Already on the starting lap, Arjun Maini in the HRT Mercedes-AMG spun off the track and hit the track barrier backwards. The Indian thus triggered the first safety car phase. After the restart, the next accident immediately followed in the first corner, involving Rolf Ineichen (SUI, GRT Lamborghini), his team-mate Clemens Schmid (AUT) and Marius Zug (GER, Attempto Audi). On the same lap, Thomas Preining (AUT, Team Bernhard Porsche) and David Schumacher (GER, WINWARD Mercedes-AMG) collided, as well as Ricardo Feller (SUI, ABT Audi) and Dennis Olsen (NOR) a few metres behind, from whose SSR Porsche even the engine was ripped out under fire. After the drivers involved had been checked in the medical centre, Schumacher, Olsen and Ineichen were taken to surrounding hospitals for further examinations, but they were able to leave them again shortly afterwards. At least Schumacher will not start on Sunday because his Mercedes-AMG cannot be repaired at the race track.
Besides Sheldon van der Linde with 149 points and Lucas Auer with 147 points, three-time DTM champion René Rast (GER, ABT Audi, 128) and Mirko Bortolotti (ITA, GRT Lamborghini, 121) still have a chance to win the title on Sunday - the race starts at 13:30 CEST, live on ProSieben from 13:00. Rast finished fifth behind the American Dev Gore, who had led the race in the Rosberg Audi until shortly before the end after a very early pit stop, Bortolotti was seventh behind the Austrian Philipp Eng (Schubert BMW).
