I feel Joe Koy’s pain. My mom is a Korean immigrant from postwar South Korea and I was born a half Asian and American kid. I’m an artist and to this day she will still tell me to get a good job with insurance and retirement. Which is great but I feel his pain. It’s hard to talk to my mom about dreams. She said dreams are for children.

I met a Filipino from Hawaii in the Army.. I am half Irish (My dad immigrated when he was 9 years old from Ireland) and Fil Am Mom... She was born in Delano Ca in the late 40s. I asked the Hawaiian Pinoy , "Are you Filipino?" He said, "No Illocano." Hahahaha...

It was unwritten in Phil History but for everyone to know he was the one who sent Ilocanos to Hawaii to study the way they plant fruits especially pineapple as we all know Ilocos region is rich when it comes to agriculture.

No lie! My mom is Filipina and would whoop my ass with the bamboo spoon or flip flop if I was in the kitchen when she was cooking. Her favorite cuss word was "SHIT!" Being the baby boy, I was not allowed to have a girlfriend because "she could get pregnant and you have no job!" Now that I'm old and have a career with benefits, she is happy and cool. I love you mom.

I just smile watching them, I love jo koy .I can relate to what they r talking about coz I asked my son to take up medicine but he doesn't like health service course, but now he is in his last semester in his master programme in civil engineering here in Norway, and at the same time he began Bachelor in Economics and Management as well last year. I respect what he wants and he is good at it. He took one semester of his master in Portugal and told me he wants to take a master in Economics in London after he finishes it. I am a nurse myself and have 6 nurses in my whole family.

Jo-koy that’s culture. Filipino parents still take pride on being able to spend money on their kids, even though their kids can very well afford it. And funny coz that’s also me when I get gift from my son. It’s a waste of money if I get a gift that I don’t really like and will never use it. Just being practical.

So they gave me a "pot pan haircut" where my hair covered my ears, and also helped to press them closer to my head lol so my parents told me. Calling me "Paila", Frying Pan, was common.. parents conditioning me to the ridicule I would receive "out there". And my favourite way they helped me with my ugliness, were the bedtime stories of the Ugly Duckling. I was "Patito Feo" and would one day grow up be handsome 🤨🙄😂😂😂😂😂
