    I'm glad you mentioned his confidence because that's the biggest difference-maker I've noticed this year. He's attacking the net aggressively and remarkably, he's making all the right reads. He shoots when he has the shot and makes the right passes when there's a player in better scoring position. This is a sign of a true star whose game is coming together.

    Two major limiting factors effected Jack that first year, his slight size and his shot. In that first season Jack weighed in under 170 pounds. Any time someone got a free arm on him he flopped down like a traffic cone. Players who excel in the rush game can take slight contact as they brush by players and fight through checks, Jack could not. Even when he did get open, his finishing ability was an obvious problem. No matter how great the look was his shot was a muffin.
    That summer he packed on the muscle and gained the ability to fight through contact, but his finishing ability was still a problem. Year three he finally started putting the puck in the net, and now you're seeing the confidence you describe blossom and take his game to a whole nother level. The most impressive thing about Jack is his determination. When he sees a problem in his game, he fixes it. I'm so excited to see him continue to grow over his career, Jack is already one of the best Devils to ever lace up the skates and he could end up being the greatest.

    Here's a few more observations, as a long time Devlis fan watching in at the Rock and on TV. His puck control is absolutely fantastic, and it allows him to make amazing changes of pace and direction, with total command of the puck on the stick. His 1-1 close quarters work is also amazing, and he stips the puck from opponents all the time, whilst generally winning 1-1 board battles. But if you want the most amazing aspect of this superstar ... it's his seeing-eye shooting. He shoots from almost flat to the goal-line, picking a 3 inch gap between goalie and post. He's intentionally banked the puck in off the goalie's helmet (instinctively turning from the head-hunting puck, only to see the carom into the net). And he's scored multiple times from below the goal-line, intentionally banking it off the goalie's skates, stick or ass. If you see it once or twice, you may mistakenly think these are flukes. But when you see the pattern, I am convinced this kid is on a totally different level to those around him. As a huge Kovalchuk fan 10-15 years ago, this kid is as genuinely electrifying on the ice as Kovy in his heyday. At this age ... he has all kinds of records in front of him.

    The excitement and hype surrounding McDavid have also increased the level of impatience and eagerness for fans with their own prospects, as they compare their prospects to McDavid and want to see them reach a similar level of success. Nathan MacKinnon blossomed as a player at the age of 25-26. MacKinnon was drafted first overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, and while he had shown flashes of his potential earlier in his career. This is why fans need to be patient with prospects. Not all players develop at the same pace, and some may take longer to reach their full potential. Factors such as injury, coaching changes, and individual growth can all impact a player's development, and it's important for fans to be patient and understand that progress can be slow and uneven. By being patient and understanding that development is a process, fans can enjoy watching their prospects grow and improve over time, and appreciate their eventual success all the more.

      It's literally body maturity. Hughes was still in his teen body playing against 21 plus year old men at their peak physically this pushes speed, agility, strength to the highest level. Mcdavid was a freak at over 6' and speed not seen before. Hughes found out he couldn't get away with things he could at USHL. Now after maturing into his frame and adjusting to the pace of the NHL skies the limit

      As a hawks fan, it wouldn't surprise me if Bedard has a lot of the same struggles Hughes had his first year. I initially felt that he'd probably be a point a game player entering this year, but knowing he has to play center against the other teams top lines too, it's going to take time to adjust. Literally 1 game into the season, they were throwing their jerseys on the ice, and the arena chanting "FIRE LINDY" I mean literally 1 game. And even in the games that they lost early on, you could see glimmers of dominance, I'm a Wings fan, and it really rubbed me the wrong way the fans were acting early on when we beat yall... Even our broadcast mentioned how crazy it was. The Devils are a great team, and have been riddled with injury especially Jack Hughes, I never once thought he was a bust, nor has he ever looked like one. I could see the Devils being a legit threat in the playoffs. I highly doubt they win the cup, I think Boston is a nightmare, and as shocking as it is Tampa is a serious problem too, that playoff experience, and just having the reps of being in the finals year after year, really give them an edge over most, if not all teams. Idk the Devils are building something special, and will be a threat year after year.

      @Semaj2326 Před rokem +1

      @@jleif7736 Most Devils fans didn't think Hughes was a bust and defended him vigorously his first year or two. The Fire Lindy chants had more to do with the lack of team success. Most of the fans were not happy with the decision to keep Lindy last offseason and just can the assistant coaches, myself included. We felt that it was a bit of a half measure and that they were unwilling to really rip the bandaid off. Then the first two games happen which looked eerily similar to last season and fans had had enough. We've had quite a few seasons where we thought this team would take a step only to have us be out of the playoffs before Christmas. We didn't want to see that happen again.

      And you'll recall, the "Sorry, Lindy" chant came on November 12, 2022 when they went 12-3. I agree that I don't think anyone is beating Boston this year, but man-o-man, I'd love to watch the Devils vs them.

Then I remembered myself at 18. I was skinny as a rail. I could eat 4,000 calories/day and it would just go right out the back door. After remembering that, I just told my friends give him time. He's nervous, and very light. When you're 18, it is NOT easy to gain weight. Combine that with being nervous, and of course the first year or two is going to be a crap shoot. Sure enough, I was right. Hughes put on a little weight, gained some confidence, and the results have shown. Definitely NOT a bust. The fact we have him until 2030, is amazing. And if he continues on this path he's on, you never know. He could be going for Wayne Gretzkys record.

What's impressed is that he's become a goal scorer this early in his career. It even took McDavid a while to up his goal scoring totals. I expect Hughes's goal total to remain higher than expected, while his assist totals get higher, especially as the Devils team gets better and their young guys get better at finishing. I saw Hughes initially almost as a Patrick Kane clone. He looked so much like Kane when you watched him on the ice. He was never a bust or even near it. Weird take but great breakdown of his talents.

    Sure that's impressive. But saturday his younger brother scored 4 goals as a rookie at Michigan to beat Penn State, so his mom probably loves Luke more :)

    He was never a bust ignorance is real here. We who watched his games from draft knew it was only a matter of time. He was showing flashes from day 1. He needed to grow into his adult body and learn to protect himself.

    Jack Hughes was never a potential bust. He started playing against men all of a sudden on a super skinny frame. I remember Crosby getting his ass kicked all the time by the opponent. That’s how he had that nickname ‘Crybaby Crosby’ 🏒
