“God is love” (1 Jn 4:16), and “love always protects” (1 Cor 13:7). It’s in His nature as a loving God to protect us and reward us for faithfulness. Just as Israel’s enemies (Sisera, Oreb, Zeeb, Zebah, and Zalmunna, Ps 83:11) in Judges fell, so Israel’s enemies today will fall, and so will the godless who oppose Him in pride. But Obadiah is a warning to me, too, to be humble and grateful for God’s protection. He will bring His kingdom to the new earth (Rev 21:1), and restore us to Him and our loved ones.

"For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on your own head" (Obadiah 1:15 ESV).
The day of the Lord is certainly drawing near! All of the things that are currently happening, not just in the United States but in most countries, are signs. The moral decline. The crazy weather patterns. Racism. Divisions. Wickedness. Lawlessness. The Lord has had the foreknowledge about all of these things taking place. But, Yahweh is faithful. He will bring justice to the weak and the fatherless. He will maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. He will rescue the weak and the needy and deliver all from the hand of the wicked. (Psalm 82:3‭-‬4) The day is coming when everyone will know who God is and that He alone is God. His name is the Lord, and He is the Most High over all the earth. (Psalm 83:18) That is such a great comfort to my soul. Praise His holy name!

  • @brucestrange3289

Psalm 82 to me is like the psalmist is watching God watch the world, commenting as he watches the rulers of the world. God says in verse 2, “How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked?” And then it’s like Him throwing up His hands in exasperation in verse 4, “Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.” He calls them oppressors and then calls them ignorant, wandering in darkness as the world around them trembles. In the end God says, yes you are gods, my children, but you will die like anyone else.

🎵 🎶 Believe it or not, there's a progressive-influenced rock song from the mid 1970s that mentions Obadiah. The lyrics are amazing:
    Obadiah, open Edom's eyes
    Heaven's fire
Will soon be laid upon your earthbound lives
    Let there be no doubt
You're gonna get what you give out
    I could set you free
But you must turn back to me
Tell it over and over and over and over again
Tell it over and over and over and over again
    Zephaniah, sell your prophecy
    Oh, heavy buyer
Tear down the bed of your idolatry
    Hearts that turn to gold
Will be turned to hearts of stone
    I could set you free
But you must turn back to me
Jeremiah, how great your pain must be
    To have the answer
And yet the people still refuse to see
    Let there be no doubt
There is only one way out
    I could set you free
But you must turn back to me
    (From "Jeremiah" by Michael Omartian)

"God isn't going to seat down and watch you get bullied without doing anything" TLC
82:6 fits in closely with the statement above. He's concerned about us because we're all His children. What we do or the choices we make is what determines whether or not we'll die like mere men. But one thing is certain, we are gods and our actions/deeds determine our ends.

Today we completed our 17th book in the Bible and our halfway through the Bible!
Obadiah was written around 850 BC.
Enemies come and take over Jerusalem, the capital city in the southern kingdom of Judah.
Obadiah, the prophet rebukes the people of Edom for it.
Edom doesn’t help Judah in their time of need when they are attacked and invaded.
Edoms passivity is as bad as the attackers.
The Day of the Lord when referenced in the Old Testament refers to a general day when God will work out justice for a particular scenario.
In the New Testament it refers to an ultimate final day when Jesus will bring justice and free the world of corruption and evil through both judgement and restoration.
Psalm 82- likely written much earlier
    Talking to God’s enemies
God values justice and showing kindness and mercy to those in need.
God will execute judgment on even divine beings who fall short of that standard.
Vs 3-5 talk about wiping out the people. Against you they make a covenant.
God identifies Himself so closely with His people that anytime they are mistreated He takes it personally.
God’s vengeance is perfect and just. He is so protective of His people. He works out justice for us in the worldly realm and also the eternal realm.
He is so powerful and protective.
    This is our God!

What is going on with me is a little confusion. I want desperately to accept Gods love for me. And i feel like i get close then i hear that He turns from u when u sin. But i say i thought He died for my sins. My hope is that when i sin the Holy Spirit will convict me. It makes me feel tossed around when i dont hear from Him for awhile. I can beg plead and try my hardest to figure out what i did wrong or i can trust that God is working and i don't need to fret just trust

Good thoughts and I can understand your confusion completely.
God looks at our heart, motives, intentions. He knows we aren’t perfect, knows all about our struggles. We also know when we are not even trying. Let alone doing our best. This is a relationship not a rule book. It has ebbs and flows. Best practice is to do what you said at the end, trust He is there, loving you as you Ask, seek and knock , struggle, rejoice and relax. Also, get support from other believers, as the wolf always goes for the lone sheep. There’s strength in numbers and encouragement in friendship. Thanks for posting here

This is fascinating stuff! It gives us glimpses into the supernatural realm. Psalm 82 shows that the gods (angels, "the sons of God") whom Yahweh appointed to rule the nations way back in Deuteronomy 32:8 became corrupt and had to be judged. Our reading from two days ago in 1 Kings 22 shows Yahweh's divine council in action, proposing ways to bring about King Ahab's demise. They'll show up again in the book of Daniel decreeing a sentence on another king.

The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Sovereign Lord says about Edom- We have heard a message from the Lord: An envoy was sent to the nations to say, “Rise, let us go against her for battle”- Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever. On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them. “The day of the Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head. Jacob will be a fire and Joseph a flame; Esau will be stubble, and they will set him on fire and destroy him. There will be no survivors from Esau.” The Lord has spoken.
    Obadiah 1:1‭, ‬10‭-‬11‭, ‬15‭, ‬18
God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”:
    Psalms 82:1 NIV
See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. Let them know that you, whose name is Lord, that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
    Psalms 83:2‭, ‬18

We just simply arent there time wise yet. Hang in there, we'll get there in proper time. This is truly a wonderful plan and a really great way to understand how the events of the bible played out through history. 5:16

To understand Psalm 82:5-7 higher revelation is needed.
God is talking about his creation here. Humans. His image.
It's the same expression in the book of Genesis when God said to man to have Dominion over all the other creation of His hands.
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭82:5‭-‬7‬ ‭KJV‬‬
[5] They know not, neither will they understand; They walk on in darkness: All the foundations of the earth are out of course. [6] I have said, Ye are gods; And all of you are children of the most High. [7] But ye shall die like men, And fall like one of the princes.
We are little gods here on Earth but we don't know that. We live in darkness and we have not come to the comprehension of the true light.
Which is why we're not functioning at our full potential.
And why some falls as ordinary man.
And as it's written in the book of Daniel "But the people that do know their God shall be strong and they shall do exploits."

  • @chiguy722
    @chiguy722 Před 8 měsíci +2

First of all GOD is talking to the sons of Man (us). Stop over thinking things. Go to John 10:29-35 The Pharisees was trying to trip up JESUS for saying he’s the son of GOD, and look what his response is. “Isn’t written in your law (Old Testament) aka (the scriptures) that I SAID you are Gods. Yes JESUS is that GOD in the Old Testament. But go back to Psalms 82 (KJV). God stand in the congregation of the the mighty, he judge among the GODS. He’s talking about what his initial plans were for man, but Adam sinned thus why he said in verse 2, 6-7
2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. This is Satan.
I think the intent for this lesson was to edify, but it was unfortunately delivered in error. First of all you see the differences in bible versions. The KJV give you the most accurate translation, (unlike all the other versions). Okay, my point is, you conveyed in your lesson from verses 10 -13 "GOD said do not" That's not what the scriptures said, if you read it again, GOD said they DID do all those things. That's why the LORD said he has great indignation for Edom. Verse 2 "Behold I have made you small among the heathens (nations), but you are greatly despised. That means even though they are out numbered among other nation, nobody likes them.
Verse 3, he's not talking about literal high cliffs and mountains, its letting us know even though Esau are small compared to other nations, they will be financially set and that will let them be in control of certain things, banks, media, etc... That's why he said Edom is saying in their heart (mind) who shall bring me down to the ground, because they have stature. Go read Genesis 27:39 after Esau cried because he SOLD his birthright, Isaac told Esau you will have great riches, that's what the" fatness of the earth" mean, and the dew of heaven and earth. Isaac is simply saying, everything Esau descendants will touch will turn to gold, he will own banks, and real estate and have good jobs. Also in that same chapter it said blood will pursue him.
Verse 6 The LORD is asking us a question here, "How are the things of Esau searched out, how are the hidden things sought up? You have to study this book, and he'll tell you who Esau is. I studied so let me tell you.
V7 "All the men of thy confederacy have brought you to even to the boarder: isn't that what's going on in Israel? Wars and conflicts. Go read in Psalms 83:3-6 and GOD tells us the list of all the people who teamed up and became confederates to remove Israel from the land.
Verse8. Esau understands what they have done. But they refuse to admit they sold their birthright. Verse 9 and they actually think nothing will be done to them, actually they don't even believe in JESUS.
Verses 10-11 "For your violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee and you shalt (WILL) be cut off by slaughter.:" Edom always conspired and acted will violence towards Israel. In Psalms 137:7 the LORD had David to write what a lot of Israelites will be praying to the LORD in the latter days “Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.” They were yelling to the Babylonians as Israel was being carted off, Get them on out of here. They also said it as the Romans under Titus carted the remainder of the Jews off into slavery again in 70. .A.D.
Verse 12 "But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger, Doesn't that sound like GOD is saying that's what indeed he did? Now pay attention the last part of this verse... "neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of JUDAH in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress. Why JUDAH? Because The Assyrians took the other 9 tribes in 722 B.C.
    Verse 13.Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;
So they entered into JERUSALEM and laid their hands on their treasures. Not only that they destroyed pictures, statues, and paintings and along with history! This was in 70.A.D.
Why do we see pictures of ancient Egyptians and pharaohs and their wives and grandmothers... Also we see statues of every emperor of Rome. We also know what Alexander the great looked like, but we've never seen a picture of Moses, David, none of the kings of Israel or the Prophets. News flash DAVID did not have a star. Israel sign was the Ark of the Covenant. That flag is the star of Remphan!
Verse 14 "Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.
Read history and see what happened. Up to 500 jews were crucified a day. A lot of others starved to death. So the cross is a Roman death symbol. It is not the sign a Cristian should glorify. Actually Emperor Constantine made it a holy sign along with Sun worship. But Edom/Idumeans (Esau) helped capture a lot that remained alive who tried to escape.
Verse 16 "For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been" Where is his holy mountain? The LORD is about to tell you where it is..
    Verses 18 and 21
Verse 18 "And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it."
Oh it's in Jerusalem. so we've learned the Edomites that nobody seem to know who they are, are in Jerusalem. And when will the LORD do all this?
Verse 21 "And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.
He's going to cut them off after the 1st resurrection When he comes back! So lets do a quick recap... Edom will be rich nd well established, he will be hated and blood will pursue him, he will take over Jacob's land, and will fight with the Ishmaelites (Arabs) constantly, and will be there in the land when the LORD and the rest of the immortals (SAVIORS) come. Does that remind you of anyone?
